Mr. Elijah Timms Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Do I dish out the $20 for Hulk? I just saw him in-person in Target, he looks pretty awesome. I've got one... Money WELL spent, and it was a lot more than $20! He just feels more LEGO-ish than the Avengers version. Quote
Ceroknight Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Do I dish out the $20 for Hulk? I just saw him in-person in Target, he looks pretty awesome. The action figure one? It's only $17 here so if it really is $20 there I don't think it's a good deal... If you mean the Helicarrier Breakout, instantly yes And if you mean only the big figure on bricklink, sure Quote
lightningtiger Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I'm torn between some sort of combination of the following sets: 10223 Kingdoms Joust 10193 Medieval Market Village 7398 Passenger Train 4207 City Garage 10224 Town Hall 10211 Grand Emporium(or perhaps even 10197 Fire Brigade) 10228 Haunted House Goodness, what a list ! I go the MMV first, followed by the GB and FB. Then the 4207 (only because I it)....after which take your pick. I guess the older the set, go for first.....because the rarer something gets.....$$$$$ goes up and up ! Quote

Masked Builder Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Yeah I meant the figure from the Heli Carrier. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Mr. Elijah Timms That is quite the list. It would be difficult to decide between all of those. I am surprised if you are into town that you don't already own some of the Modulars. I find those to be awesome builds and great display pieces. I did really enjoy the MMV set though, so I would recommend that one. I still want to get the Joust, so I can't attest to the build there, but it looks detailed. I would have to agree, go with the sets that will go away first. If all of these interest you right now, just imagine waiting a few years and looking at the prices of some of those early sets and kicking yourself for not getting them. If there is absolutely no regret, I would say a modular and MMV if you can swing that. Good luck in your purchases. Masked Builder I didn't care for that figure at first until I held it in my hands. So if you already like it and don't want the full set, I would highly recommend getting it. He seems to fit in quite well with the rest of the group. I'm not sure what a good price for him individually is, but $20 probably sounds about right. Quote
Vindicare Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Do I dish out the $20 for Hulk? I just saw him in-person in Target, he looks pretty awesome. I'd get him. He is one of my favorite figs. He's just awesome. Quote
HawkLord Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 Do I dish out the $20 for Hulk? I just saw him in-person in Target, he looks pretty awesome. I would say "yes" if you mean the polybag Hulk (though I doubt Target has the polybag Hulk) or the Avengers Hulk. If you're talking about the Hulk action figure type set, then I would say "no". Quote
MannyLego Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Which set is a better buy, 9499 Gungan Sub or 9472 Attack on Weathertop? I know both are over price per peice ratio but which one feels like the most satisfying even with the high price? Which one has the better model and more fun build? Quote

Weathertop is the better model I think, and if you don't really care for Amidala, I would get Weathertop Quote
HawkLord Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) Which set is a better buy, 9499 Gungan Sub or 9472 Attack on Weathertop? I know both are over price per peice ratio but which one feels like the most satisfying even with the high price? Which one has the better model and more fun build? The Gungan Sub is a lesser known vehicle that only really works underwater from an under-appreciated race. The main selling point is the Queen Amidala figure, which is exclusive to the set and has been high on people's wishlists for some time. Given that The Phantom Menace 3-D has already come and gone, I can't see there being a good chance that this Amidala will see another release soon. Weathertop is a pretty good playset in that the environment is very interactive. The figures are good, with the Wraiths being the major selling point. Granted, more Wraiths will be offered in future LOTR sets, these two here are a good start towards a full nine. My vote would be for Weathertop. As you mentioned, neither set has a really good price-per-brick ratio, however, Weathertop has the better figures overall and the better "play value". Or to put it more bluntly - I'm a huge Star Wars and LOTR fan and I have two copies of Weathertop and have not yet bought a single copy of the Gungan Sub. Edited August 9, 2012 by Hawkman Quote
Sam892 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Ok so my birthday is approaching fast and Christmas is not too long after that. So I can't decide between SDCC Black Suit Spidey and SDCC Pheonix. Which ever one I end up getting for my birthday I will get for Christmas. Also do you guys think I should look into maybe getting Bizzaro and Shazam aswell? Quote

Admiral-Ackbar Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 (edited) I have £140 in my bank account, and we are going to toys r us tomorrow. Being the child I am, I want to get a Lego set (Jabbas Palace) priced at £120. The problem is, while I am allowed to, my mum thinks that I should wait until I have £200. I could earn it through working at her shop, but I could make the money whether I buy it or not. The thing that makes me feel guilty though is that she says she would be unhappy if I did buy it, and that she would find it immature. Do you think that I should buy it? I've been there myself, and it can be frustrating. Is this the first time you've spent such an amount on LEGO? One thing you could consider is perhaps instead of buying a "kids" set from TRU, go online and buy a Modular building from S&H and then show it to your mother, show her all the details and the advanced building techniques and then maybe she'll be a little more accepting of your hobby. I suppose since this is the "which set should I buy?" thread though, and not the "dealing with parents" thread, I'd say the Grand Emporium, if you can find it. Not sure if it's retired or not. Good luck whatever you choose! Quote

Yeah, as impressive as Star Wars sets tend to be, you get a lot less in my opinion to redeem them in a non-AFOLs eyes than you do in something aimed towards adults. But hey...it's Jabba the Hutt. How could she be mad when she sees his big round eyes? Quote

Maniac4Legos Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Hello all! I want to buy another Super Heroes Marvel set to go along with my Captain America's Avenging Cycle (bought yesterday). But for $20, I am stuck between these two sets: Wolverine's Chopper Showdown OR Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape. I have watched reviews on both, and I have to say, it's tough to choose still. Notes: -I like to keep sets as they are for a while then take them apart. I don't mind having different characters in different models, but I like to keep the models together for a while before tearing them apart for other things. -I have not seen the Avengers movie but I still like the figures from other Marvel movies. (Don't worry, I'll see it sometime soon.) -I am more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan (not too familiar with Marvel backgrounds), but I still like the Marvel sets from LEGO. They have good features. *What values I see in Wolverine's Chopper Showdown:* -Wolverine is a good minifigure, not my favorite in Marvel but favorite for X-Men. -I don't quite know Deadpool that well. Didn't he used to be bad, now good? Or reverse? Or didn't change? In this set he is a villain commanding the chopper. Good detail on him, though. -Magneto is a good villain, and good details on his minifigure. -Helicopter has good play features, and I like the extra area behind the cockpit. I could seat maybe 2 minifigures back there. The lack of stickers makes it useful for other MOCs or scenes I setup in the future. And it has good flick fire missiles. --WITH CPT AMERICA SET: gives me 2 superheroes vs. 4 villains. vehicle wise, villains have the upper hand (helicopter + alien rover + turret) compared to the heroes (two 1-man motorcycles) *What values I see in Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape:* -I like all the minifigures. I prefer Iron Man over Wolverine, no matter the variation on Iron Man. -Again, isn't Hawkeye with the Avengers? In this set and Helicarrier Breakout, he appears to side with Loki (especially in this one, since he is driving Loki away from Iron Man). -S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the superheroes' side too! So did Loki (and Hawkeye) steal the truck to escape with the Cosmic Cube? -ONE SEAT ON THE INSIDE!? Surely LEGO could have fit 2 minifigures in the truck. LEGO should've taken out the chair and levers. -The flip function on the back is good. In fact, the truck's flat bed can be good for future use for delivery or something. -The flick fire missiles are in a terrible position. You try to flick them without hitting the rear wheels or the pieces above them. If LEGO needed flick action in this set, they should've put it somewhere towards the top of the truck where it would be useful. -Despite my complaints with the truck, it says "all-terrain" to me, and looks stylish and sturdy. --WITH CPT AMERICA SET:Again we have a 2 on 4 fight (counting Hawkeye as a villain) with the bad outweighing the good in vehicles and chance of winning a fight. However, if Hawkeye and the S.H.I.E.L.D. truck was good, then it would be a fair fight. I also think it makes more sense for Cpt. America to pair up with Hawkeye rather than Wolverine. I don't fully understand the Marvel Universe, but I would think X-Men pair with the Avengers? I don't know. Plus, Loki can command his alien troopers better if he was present. I would have him ride the rover, the general on foot with the gun and the foot soldier man the turret. Then Hawkeye and Cpt. America ride in on their truck on motorcycle. Makes sense to me, but I haven't seen the Avengers movie yet sorry to disappoint Let me know below if you have either of the $20 sets (or all 3 mentioned above)! Also inform me of your reasons or what you would do if you were me. Thanks! ~Maniac4Legos Quote
Ceroknight Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52175 For the record, I'd go with Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 (edited) I think that Jabba's Palace is a good call. I would have it by now if it wasn't so expensive and if I was a bigger Star Wars fan. I am also torn between two sets. I plan on making an Avengers brickfilm but to do it I need the Hulk Helicarrier Breakout. But I am yet to purchase the Samurai Mech which I really would like as well.
