lego leppy Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Modulars question? I think these are really cool and I'm looking to get my 1st. I know I will get the Pet Shop but i would like to get either the GE or FB with all the talk of both of them EOLing. It's a no brainer if one or both of them EOLs, I'll start with them. Let's say they both stay in production. Which is the better set to start with the notion that I will get the other later? Which is a better modular to start with? I like to MOC however this set will probably be displayed. Thanks for your help!! Quote

I like to MOC however this set will probably be displayed. Thanks for your help!! I have all of them on display except Market Street. Your question is rather hard as, architecturally speaking, I like the design of GE better, but the FB was the better build and looks more impressive. If I HAD to choose (and my wife agrees), I would go with the FB first, but if you can afford it, don't pass on either. Plus (and I know you said IF both stay in production, but...), the FB will most likely be the first to go if only one ends (but that's just my speculation). In all honesty though, while I slightly prefer the FB, you won't be disappointed with ever of these. Quote
lego leppy Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 Thanks Dayz for the reply. So I asked my fiance which she liked better (shes not into Legos other than the architectural sets) and she like GE. So I might go that route. So let's say TLG decides to EOL one of them, how does the process go? Do they make an announcement or something? What happens to prices immediately (I mean that day) after they make the announcement? Jay Sathe Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 City question: I have a pretty complete City setup, and I have about $100 to spend. I already have a Police Station (7744) and all the basics. What should I buy with $100? I am leaning towards the airport as the most recent one that I have is 10159, but I am not sure how well the new giant plane will fit into my small city. Any suggestions? Quote

You won't be disappointed with GE at all. That's the one that got me back into Lego altogether. Somebody else may be better qualified to answer your other question. I am not sure if they make a formal announcement all the time (I imagine they probably would give some sort of announcement). Either way, they usually won't change their price, but there probably will be a rush of people buying the set to later sell at a markup. As you probably know, the markup can range from a few bucks to several times the original price (I have paid 4x the original before). In the case of FB and GE, I can't see a huge markup right after its sold out (they have been out a while), but you never know what the market will dictate. Quote
AncientDayz Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) Okay, I have been too active in this thread lately, so here is my last one: I just got a bunch of sets to start getting into castle stuff (Joust x2, MMV, village raid, etc.), but I don't have any castles. Is Helms Deep a good set to start a castle MOC? I can get it at Target for $99. If not, can you recommend another one that is good for castles, new or old (for a newbie)? I would like to stay around $100 considering I just spent a grand in the last month on Lego. Thanks in advance. Edit: Thanks to cwetqo, I saw the other thread that dealt with this issue somewhat; based on that thread, HD is obviously a good choice for castle MOCs given what's out there (thanks cwetqo). So, if I may adjust the question a little: before I buy HD, are there any older sets for a castle MOC you would recommend first for a castle newbie? I apologize for all the questions, but I have never really looked at the last 15 years of castle stuff or any of the LOTR items until today. Edited October 24, 2012 by AncientDayz Quote
Cwetqo Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 There is no notification regarding EOL. FB was predicted to go EOL long time ago, but because of some production errors they did another run and thats why those sets are still on shelves. It could happen that FB and GE will be gone at approximately the same time (GE according to regular product life and FB to prolonged time). One thing is sure: with presentation of cinema set lego will work to have just 3 sets on sale: cinema, pet shop and town. availability of FB and GE will be just until stock lasts. If you have money get fire brigade and grand emporium now, but if you have for just one, buy grand emporium. Its great set. PocasNuckie Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Hi, My post isn't exactly a Set X vs Set Y question, but I still think this is the most appropriate thread for it. Anyways, in a week or so there should be a promo of 50% off toys in one of the major retailers here in Portugal (the 50% is put on the client card, so the real discount is 33%, but tat doesnt matter here). One of the themes that's usually around, and one I like to get the most is the soon to be gone NinjaGO. Now, I know what sets I want from that, but I am veryyyyyyy undecided about one - and that's the 9450 Epic Dragon Battle. The only thing that really appeals to me , is the Green Ninja. But I have seen that's a minifig that exists on one of those spinner packs (I know the minifig quality is different, but I am not picky, so that's not an issue to me). I have also looked at the instructions like I always do, to see if there's interesting parts and stuff, and the build looks a bit hard for someone like me (I am disabled, got little strength in my hands/arms, and whatever...). To be honest, I am pointing more towards skipping EDB and picking 2 of the 9449 Ultra Sonic Raider, because that one is a much more better parts packs, specially when it comes to Ninja Weapons (i got a ton of CMF Series 1 Ninjas, and they are all bored of using the same swords over and over again ah!). So... what are your opinions and specially suggestions? Quote
TheLegoDr Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 AncientDayz - I would say go for Helm's Deep at that price! I am waiting on it for Christmas, but the set looks neat. But I've been a huge fan of the license so far, so that's why I have it. Out of older castles, I have no idea what good prices are for used, but my absolute favorite LEGO castle is Black Knight's Castle with the red roofing and yellow paned wall. It is beautiful. At the very least, try to bricklink those pieces and build it yourself. It's great. PocasNuckie - I would say if you are on the fence with that large set and would rather buy two of another set, go for the two! The green ninja is neat, but you can certainly get it a cheaper way, so that might be best for what your needs are. Plus it might save some money? I don't know how much Ninjago sets cost normally. For me now, I will pose another question. I just had my first visit to a LEGO brand store and went overboard for Christmas. http://www.eurobrick...ic=3704&st=7550 (#7554) However, I accumulated more VIP points, so now I am sitting at 130. I am at a crossroads. I was contemplating the Tower Bridge earlier and that would take out over half of the cost to make it more affordable. It does look appealing and it would be a great parts pack since I'm big into Modular MOCs these days, but I've always been a castle fan at heart and The Joust caught my eye when it was first announced. Obviously I don't need extras of a lot of those minifigures, but Bricklink definitely makes you pay for the select unique figures. It is probably worth it just to buy the whole set in the long run and it would be free with VIP points. Or do I go another route and knock out a huge chunk of the Town Hall so I can MOC with that. Too many big decisions. I do plan on buying Arkham and those sets next year, but I might as well get some of these earlier releases first. To sum up: 130 VIP points. Do I go with Tower Bridge for over half off, Joust for free, or Town Hall for over half off? Thanks in advance Quote
Multiverse Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 I'm considering buying Helm's Deep for £70, which is half the retail price in Denmark. I'm not a die-hard fan of LotR, and have no use for flesh figures, but I like the attention to detail in the LotR figures. I'm also fond of the variety of Castle pieces in there. I've previously considered HD a complete no-go, since the price point was so, to put it frankly, insane. However, at this price I'm tempted to get it. If I do, it'll be almost entirely for the pieces (although I like the structure). Quote
Masked Builder Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I'd get it Multiverse, it's a set with an excellent parts selection, and at that price I say you can't go wrong! Quote
Redhead1982 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I'd go with Tower Bridge - it's a nice build, and excellent parts pack with many specific bricks for detailing. And you'd get some VIP points with the buy, that you can use later for other sets. Also, it's the 'oldest' of the three, and there are chances you can get the other too later.... To sum up: 130 VIP points. Do I go with Tower Bridge for over half off, Joust for free, or Town Hall for over half off? Go with it! Helm's Deep is great - I mean, I got it for the pieces, and sold the minifigs on BL almost instantly. It's a nice parts pack for castle, and it's worth geting it for a reasonable price. If the price is holding you back and now you've found one at a price you can handle, then I'd say now there's nothing holding you back. Plus, as a LOTR fan myself, it's a great set. Quote
Multiverse Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 @Masked Builder, Redhead1982 and Hawkman - thanks for your advice. I'm afraid I've missed out on the offer (and the fact that I don't feel so disappointed about it might indicate that I wasn't so excited about the set in the first place - which is strange, because all logic reasoning says it's a great set that should be right up my alley). But thanks a lot for the advice! =) Quote
The Heartbrick Kid Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 I want to make a MOC of some sort of space truck/cargo space ship, mostly in grey (a combination of grey and dark) and touches of yellow and red. I already made this, but I want to upscale it a bit and I'm looking for a set to would make for a good base or parts selection. After reading some reviews, I was thinking about Creator 6753. Do you have any other ideas of sets with large amounts of grey/red/yellow tiles or smooth pieces? Quote

Multiverse Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 2013 Question: Should I invest in buying Chima, HF and Ninjago or wait for prelims of Galaxy Squad? I would wait and see the prices for each line. Not considering that, I would personally go for Ninjago and, depending on the sets, Galaxy Squad. =) Quote
october Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 ola, I have a chance to get one MISB Imperial Flagship (10210). It will cost me 210 EUR. It is a high price and I am on a limit with my money, but...this could be my last chance for this classic. Any good suggestion. My plan was to buy a modular GE or PS, or the Kingdoms Joust. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 I love the Imperial Flagship. I highly recommend it. A great selection of redcoats and a pretty rare female is included. The ship itself is very impressive when built, especially if you are used to the other LEGO ships. It is one of the few sets I still have together after coming out of my dark ages. I'm not sure if the price is good, but with it being discontinued, I would imagine it will only go up in price. As far as the modulars go, is that in addition to the Flagship or instead of? If it is in addition to, I would recommend the GE for a few reasons. One being the obvious choice with it being almost out of production. But another reason is it being a nice build when it is all said and done. Yes, the top floors are a bit repetitive, but the aesthetic is really nice. TLG did a great job modeling it after more historic shopping buildings. I recently bought the PS for Christmas, so I can't attest to that build, but I like the variety of colors and the little buildings. But I think the GE will be more impressive in that scale. Plus, if you want them all, get the GE first and with time you could get the PS. I also want the Joust, so I can't attest to that one either, but with it having come out this year, you probably have some time to get that one too. But are you more into Castle or City layouts? I have the problem of liking too many themes, so it really adds up quick. To sum up: Go for the IFS if possible! Then go for GE as the modular. Good luck! Quote
october Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 thanks dr. I can buy ifs or modular + joust. I am more in pirates/castle teme, but the modulars are great. Quote

mobaladje Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 (edited) Hello. I'm looking for tan parts for a military MOC. Could you recommend me sets with great values for these parts ? Thanks. Regards. Edited November 5, 2012 by mobaladje Quote
Cwetqo Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Any of Pharaohs Quest sets, Grand Emporium modular, SW Jabba's palace., Toy Story Woodys Roundup. PQ is best choice bu its mostly gone form shops, so I would choose Grand Eporiom. It has lots of parts for modest price. Quote
Ceroknight Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 I have $15 worth of VIP points and I'm eyeing the Cole NRG Spinner... Are spinners worth the money if you aren't in to the game? If not, any alternatives that might be good? Quote

If not, any alternatives that might be good? I honestly don't know anything about Ninjago, but I will say that I prefer to spend my VIP points towards something big. I know I could drop $15 on a Lego set without any problem, so I'd see it as more worthwhile to use those $15 to knock down the price of a larger set. I have about $35 worth of points right now and everytime I go into the Lego store they ask me if I want to use them. Each I just say "no thanks" because I know I'm saving those points for something big one day. Quote
