Hi all,

I know there's quite a number of official molded musical instruments out there, but I need to know if I'm missing any. These are the ones I have so far:

99252pb01.gif

Bagpipes, released with the CMF Series 7 Bagpiper

93564pb01.jpg?1

93564pb02.jpg?1

Electric Guitars, released with the CMF 4 Rocker and CMF 7 Pop Girl

11640pb01.jpg

Stephanie's Electric Guitar, from the Friends Line.

Fabuland Drums, released back in the 80's (and hard to find in the States)

4434.jpg?0

Fabuland Tuba, released back in the 80's (also hard to find in the States)

4335.gif?0

Fabuland Accordion, released back in the 80's (not as hard to find)

71342.jpg?0

Bugle (also a trumpet), released back in the late 90's in the Western line.

90301pb01.jpg?1

Maracas, released with the CMF Series 2 Mariachi Man

Wooden Flute, released in the Harry Potter "The Forbidden Corridor" set (2001)

~~~
Sets these have appeared in:
3711-1.jpg
The Tuba obviously in Pierre Pig and his Tuba
3712-1.jpg
The Accordion in Robby Rabbit's Accordion
3713-1.jpg?0
Drummer Gabriel Monkey has the drums
3631-1.jpg?0
Pierre and Gabriel make an appearance here.
The bugle appears in a whopping 10 sets:
3739-1.jpg?0
6762-1.jpg?0
6706-1.jpg?0
6495-1.jpg?0
3308-1.jpg?0
6497-1.jpg?0
I was genuinely surprised that the bugle appears in so many sets (especially the soccer set). I'm not too surprised it appeared in the Time Twisters line, since every random part was stooped in there. I think the designers of that line were on acid.
The Flute has appeared in the 2001 Harry Potter "The Forbidden Corridor" set. Thanks to Tragic Banjo for pointing that out.
In my opinion, any old pipe that size would do for a band, especially since the flute from that set is hard to come by. (Only 22 lots on Bricklink for it)
The Electric Guitar is from Stephanie's Rehearsal Stage. Thanks to Artanis I for finding this.
Similar to the "V" shaped electrical guitars.
So, what else am I missing? In short I'm trying to put together a marching band, and it's rather hard to do with only four instruments (right now the ones that make sense that I have are the bugle, tuba, accordion, and bagpipes) and the accordion and bagpipes don't even make that much sense.
I'm not sure if you count brick built instruments too, but there was the brick built saxophone in the Winter Village Cottage Set. We may also be getting a new molded instrument with the Jazz Musician from Series 11 of the Collectible Minifigures but that's just speculation.
I wasn't really, I'm looking for molded pieces. I'll have to look the saxophone up, though.
The Fabuland instruments are extremely hard to find. The drums I couldn't even find in the U.S.
Not sure if you'd count this one, as it's a standard part just printed to look like an instrument, but the Harry Potter set The Forbidden Corridor had a wooden flute piece.
A flute is a good idea. If one is being cheap (like me) then any old pipe that size would do, thanks for bringing that up. I've added it to the first post.
There's a city layout I've seen on YouTube (I would post the link but I only have Internet via phone ATM, sorry!) which has a full marching band 'marching' down the street, if you search 'lego city Hollywood' it should appear in the results. Might be good for some tips for you!
Good luck and happy building! XD
Great idea for a topic!
I know these are "accessories" and not actual instruments, but still molded and music-related...
The mini-violin box from the Gangster minifig:
And the Rapper minifig's accessories:
Eventually you could count the "hooter" from CMF series 1 clown as an instrument..
And of course there are drums and a piano (organ) in the friends line.. but those are brickbuild.
And how about the CMF clown's horn?
Not so sure if I'd classify that as an "instrument", what do others think? I'm willing to add it to the list if people agree it's an instrument. I'd classify it more as a toy or "prop" since you can't really play a clown horn. If we added that then any old horn or bell could be added: car horns, bike bells, church bells, etc.
I would classify it as an instrument. It may be more prop related but I'd say it could easily be used for musical purposes. Somehow I imagine weird Al playing one...
In my mind it's on the same level as a church bell or triangle, it would never be used alone in a song, but it could be used to give a song more variety (Thinking the church bell in viva la vida).
The Islanders from the old pirates theme had a animal hide drum, though that wasnt a specialized molded piece, just a round 2x2 tile - it was meant to be seen as a drum piece, though.
Maybe not the only one, but you missed the brown maracas from the CMF Hula Dancer.
I'd view that as the same Maraca, really.
I was thinking about adding the zebra-skinned Islanders drum (why are there zebras in the Polynesian Islands?), but it's not really a musical instrument. People also have used it as a pillow, for example.
