couchsofa Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 (edited) The creation of this 19,119 piece MOC was mostly driven by creating many castles, which modules turned out to be too large for the scope of LDD. So I decided to build a more self-contained unit with the extension of an airship, hence the Air Castle. In the overview[high res, no AA] one can see the implecations of a castle, which couldn't rely on large fields outside the main walls. Houses are build from wood and into the rock foundations and pathways have formed around them. As resources couldn't be farmed the castles econemy is largely build on trade and craftsmanship. In order to sustain the commerce the north gate accomodates a dock for floating ships, being one of the few trade-offs in the defenses. Under the castle is a maze of cellars, one maybe leading to a secret entrance on the western wall ... The source of the seamingly magical power that keeps the trade ships and boats afloat is unkown, but it is believed to involve crystals. Being originally designed for travels on the seas, some of the ships cannons haven't been used for quite some time others were moved onto the deck. The burgfried is the tallest, and probably best defended tower of the castle being on the eastern wall and having no entrance from the ground floor. The southern flank incorperates a prison and shows the refitting of the castle over the years with its mixture of roman, greek and gothic arcs and columns. Ok, I think that's enaugh lore for the moment, although I'm glad to answer questions. There are some things I left unfinished, the cellars and the tavern for example have no interior and I will probably not add them. Some details: Air Castle Length: 176 studs Width: 84 studs Height: 62 bricks Air Ship Length: 112 studs Width: 46 studs Height: 50 bricks More Images (All in High Res without AA, Rendering took a couple of weeks) Edited May 19, 2013 by couchsofa Quote
Dr.Cogg Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Very nice castle, I like how its built on floating rocks Quote
Deathleech Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I really like the air ship/floating castle feel this has going for it. It's not something you generally see a lot of in the historic theme and this looks great! It really gives the feeling of being high above the ground and floating in the air. A very fun MOC. Quote

ZCerberus Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Yes. a 800 x 600 main image might be worth having as well. Quote
