Hey folks!

I've recently been posting on EB and Historica really looks cool. Unfortunately, I'm kind of having a hard time deciding on a guild to join, primarily because I have limited pieces. I looked over the 5 different guilds and the all seem pretty darn cool (along with the sweet MOC's created). I probably can't keep up with the MOC's that have been posted, but I just enjoy building.

Any ideas on which guild I should attempt to join?

It all depends on what you are looking to do... Also, I don't think Valyrio is join-able just yet, but it looks like it will be soon.

I would say join Kaliphlin because we are the best, but you really should join whichever you feel fits your building style, or the challenge you want to work towards.

My collection had very little tan in it when I joined Kaliphlin, but PoP was going on sale so I beefed it up quite quickly. I think building a tan collection this year would be much harder, as their is not as many sets with it. (But you also don't need the desert colors to build in Kaliphlin).

If you have a lot of lush forest colors or just plain castle pieces, Avalonia might be a good fit. Although they like to wear tights and have tea parties too much. If you have that collection, and want to get some white for snow, Mitgardia would be a good fit.

Finally, if you just want to go off the wall, and don't mind being in a guild with a low population, but some very talented builders, Nocturnus is a good choice. There really isn't a set style over there, and not all of them build in a dark and creepy mater (although the more dark and creepy builders, the better.)

It is a personal choice, but all of us will be accepting of you, no matter where you go.

You could always hang on a few weeks and see if we open up Valyrio, if that is the style you are looking to build.

when the guilds started up, I thought Avalonia. a bit as It reminded me of germany where I don't live anymore, but mainly that (I was 13 at the time, I didn't think I could get onto EB, so I was just going to submit a tower through Zcerberus) I had just enough green to cover atleast half of the 32x32 base. tan, white, dark colors, I had hardly any, so that was my biggest decider. I do love all the guilds though. avalonias probably the easiest to build in (hardest to stand out though). next comes mitgardia. nocturnous has its own challenges but nearly anything goes. the most potential for chalenge comes from kaliphlion I would say.

do what suits your parts and what you like. you'll end up with more pieces eventually, I could almost guarantee it, collections probably doubled the last 1 1/2 years.

Already welcome!

I can only agree with Legonardo: Kaliphlin and Nocturnus are the most challenging Guilds to join as you don't really have that many examples (so you got a lot of freedom to try things and styles out).

For example, Kaliphlin is the Eastern-styled guild, but that style varies from Latins America (maybe this continent fits Nocturnus as well), to Spain, Northern Africa, Turkey, Middle East, Persia, India, ... . So really a lot of possibilities without that many MOC'ers who build in those styles in the past!

For Nocturnus the same, you can build underground cities, dark swamplands, dark mountain fortresses, outlaw campments, lost cities, vulcano cities, ... . And you can feature a lot of races in Nocturnus as well (like orcs, werewolves, minotaurs, drow, ... ).

So it is up to you :classic:

I wouldn't worry too much about how your pieces fit, you can make it work. Do you have a specific guild builder who you really like? Maybe join that persons guild to learn some of the tricks of the trade from them.

There are also ongoing "projects" in a few of the guilds.

Consider joining:

Avalonia if you want in on the Albion Project

Mitgardia if you want in on the Walls of Valholl

Kaliphlin if you want to build Petraea University (can someone find me the link!!)

...Kaliphlin if you want to build Petraea University (can someone find me the link!!)

Yes! :grin:Petraea University. (It's the only one with prizes & a winner, I may add... :wink:And it's open to all guilds. That's beside the point though...) BTW, thanks for the reminder, I think I'll have to do one of those soon...

Anyway, as others have said, both Kaliphlin and Nocturnus have a lot of diversity. Typically Nocty is more or less dark & evil while Kaliphlin not so much. Not necessarily though as we have our desert mummies and what-not...

Avalonia and Mitgardia are a bit (but just a bit  ) more stereotyped; Avalonia is your traditional castles in a nice lush forest setting (+ plenty of elves), while Mitgardia has a colder (mountainous and snowy) climate, but still the typical castle building style (with dwarfs - though there's plenty of Dwarfs in Kaliphlin - our leader is a dwarf!). Speaking of leaders, both Avalonia and Mitgardia have fairly active leaders, but Kaliphlin and Nocty not so much so you can do what you want there.

And for the record, ATM Avalonia is in first place in terms of gold, Kaliphlin in second, Mitgardia third, and Nocty dead undead last. Honestly though, it has been a while since the scores have been revealed and Mitgardia is always pushing for second (probably for first if they're ambitious...). We have until the end of June before the final winner will be decided prior to embarking on phase two of this project.
