30 days is the minimum time but you should be able to try to register on 12 March (if that is the choice.)

So maybe I'll keep the poll running for an extra week since PirateBricks.com has a strong lead.

So, by a humongo gigantic landslide, and in the lead by eight votes, PirateBricks.com is going to be presumebly the domain name?

Its looking that way, however there are some complications getting PirateBricks.com. It seems its being parked by GoDaddy.com until the 12th of March so we can't register it until after that date. But that also depends what GoDaddy.com is planning to do with it, they might want it resell it for a ridiculous price or they might cast it into the great cyber abyss. The second would work better in our favour.

I wouldn't worry too much just yet. The 12th of March date is the mandated waiting period as per the rules of being a domain registrar. No domain registrar is supposed to register ANY domain name to someone who is not the current registrant before the 30 day waiting period is up. It is simply a way to give registrants every chance to re-register.

But having the domain parked doesn't this mean GoDaddy.com has more chance of registering the domain before anyone else? How do we ensure we register it first so they can't register the domain are then resell it at a riduclous price?

GoDaddy.com is the registrar. They have not "parked" anything. They were simply the registrar NOT THE REGISTRANT (big difference) and have to follow the rules that apply to all registrars. They are not doing anything with the domain but what they have to do to be allowed to continue to operate as a domain registrar. They are not allowed to ask for more money for the domain than the standard, official rates. If they did so they could lose their licence.

You could always write to them and inquire about registering the domain now. It would cost nothing and maybe help to put your mind at ease or, in the worst case, discover whether there is another potential REGISTRANT also interested. *sweet*

I also voted for piratebricks.com.

It's simple, it's similar to eurobricks and, last but definitely not least, it contains exactly 15 letters.

:)

Godaddy don't want to mess with big mighty pirates forum of Eurobricks, do they?

Since everyone almost everyone else is also voting for PirateBricks, and because classic-pirate (if it was classic-pirateS I would vote for that one) and all the others don't sound so good to me, I vote for PirateBricks...

Why have they put "This page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com" at the top on the page? :-/

I wanted to register the domain through another registrar, is that still possible?

I checked for the availability of piratebricks.com at one.com (where I normally buy url/web space). They just say that this domain is taken...

Unless we know when/if this domain will become available again, I would suggest to go for the .org, .net or .info variants.

No variants... I want a .com

I've explained why in another thread.

It's just advertising their service while maintaining the hosting until the required time is up. As a registrar they have to keep it for 30 days after expiry in case the old owner decides to re-register the domain. They might as well make themselves look like nice people while doing so.

Sure is, BUT it might take longer to transfer from one registrar to another. The fastest way is through the original registrar.

How do you know so much about domain registeration Mr Beard? Do you have your own domains or work in the IT industry?

He mentioned he's an IT guy a while back.

By the way, domain transfer should only take hours. If the former owner hasn't reregistered piratebricks.com by now I don't think he will in the last minute and there's no reason to pay a higher price just to be a few hours "ahead". Once you paid it's your's anyway, whether the transfer has started yet or not...

Unless I'm mistaken domian registerations shouldn't take anymore than 72 hours at the longest and I don't think waiting 3 more days is going to kill us.

My calendar tells me its almost the 10th of March!
