General Magma Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I still don't understand why kanan has to lose he's sight... Now he is just a liability and it marks the end for him imo. This show just went from fun and light to dark and heavy, not sure if i will continue to watch after this. Goodbye feelgood vipe. I can't help but wonder what this will do to kids... First of all, I loved the episode. I thought it was great. However, I do agree with your notion that it has gone from fun and lighthearted to dark and heavy... I remember wanting Rebels to get darker, but now I too am missing the "feel good vibe". I'll certainly keep watching though, nonetheless, but I'm honestly going to miss the fun and lighter tone. CMP Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 You guys need to remember that the movie where Darth Vader cut off Luke's hand, Chewbacca was tortured, and Han Solo was sold to a gangster was followed by the movie that introduced Ewoks. Quote
Junior Shark Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Like it or not, Ezra, Kanan, and Ahsoka have to be explained away before the events of A New Hope. My predictions? Kanan- blind, crotchety hermit or killed by Ezra. Ahsoka- mystical hermit/wanderer or killed by Vader. Ezra- Becomes Snoke in the Unknown Regions.... obviously. Junior Shark Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 (edited) Rejoice, Ahsoka fans! In October of this year, we will be receiving a novel detailing her exploits between the events of TCW and Rebels: http://makingstarwar...r-october-2016/ And an interesting-ish snippet about Rex : http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016/03/star-wars-rebels-showrunner-dave-filoni-confirms-popular-fan-theory-about-rex.html Edited March 31, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
Artanis I Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Two jedi, an ex-jedi, a sith, an ex-sith & 3 inquisitors walk into a bar... All but the inquisitors walk out. Not a joke, but still a bit funny in a way. Ahsoka: "I won't leave you this time" Vader: "Then you will die" [...both walk away...] Everyone upset about Kanan being blind (and therefore now useless) never watched Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope... or Daredevil, or Book Of Eli, or umpteen other movies where eyesight is not required for fighting. Do you think Luke could see with his eyes when that helmet covered his face? No he used the force, as was part of jedi training (which Kanan underwent). Quote

One dip in tone doesn't set the standard for the rest of the series. Quote
Jedi-Bendu Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Kanan is the new Rahm Kota. They used that from the 'Legends' stuff. Quote

The thing here is that I very much doubt we'll be seeing a happy ending for most of these characters, which, eventually, has to come somewhere during the show. Maybe we'll still see some lighter episodes, but it will never get to imitate the happy type of ending from RotJ considering the show's place in the canon. Quote

He needed a lot more training before he could go on the "blind sensei" path Quote
rollermonkey Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 What if what we saw was her force ghost? I mean, there was absolutely no color to what I saw... Much like her white sabers. Quote
ChiefPie Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 What if what we saw was her force ghost? I mean, there was absolutely no color to what I saw... Much like her white sabers. I really think it's her and not a force ghost of her because I doubt she learned how to become one. Plus I'm assuming the blast separated her and Vader before he could kill her. Quote
Junior Shark Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) What if what we saw was her force ghost? That sounds..... very possible. I guess she and Obi-Wan are chumming it up in the Force netherworld then. Edit: ChiefPie has a point. We don't know if Ahsoka ever learned how to become a Force ghost. Unless maybe she visited Obi-Wan sometime. Edited April 1, 2016 by Junior Shark Quote
General Magma Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I personally think Ahsoka's final scene is meant to be symbolic rather than meant to be taken literal. Quote
Junior Shark Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 A couple of small things that I really appreciated in the episode (the devil is in the details, after all): - Vader dueled with a two-hand grip on his saber. - When the holocron/weapon chamber was collapsing, there was this lovely Force mist stuff blowing around. Look familiar?: http://i.imgur.com/AS5kfNh.jpg Quote
Captain Nemo Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Well Ahsoka's "death" was intentionally ambiguous. Director Dave Filoni wanted it that way (although he apparently knows definitively one way or the other), in that you could she her as either still alive or dead. Granted by that ambiguity, it implies life more than death but whatever. Personally I feel she's dead--it would be rather cool to see her as a neutral white force ghost, rather than a blue Jedi ghost. That all being said, it also appears from comments Filoni has made about said episode/situation, that we won't be seeing Ahsoka again on Rebels regardless, alive or dead. ...now if we could just get rid of Rex! Everyone upset about Kanan being blind (and therefore now useless) never watched Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope... or Daredevil, or Book Of Eli, or umpteen other movies where eyesight is not required for fighting. Do you think Luke could see with his eyes when that helmet covered his face? No he used the force, as was part of jedi training (which Kanan underwent). Well just to play devils advocate--Luke chose to close his visor and believe in Ben/the Force...Kanan had no choice in the matter of his eyes being sliced out. I don't think there's anything comparable in Star Wars (movie/show wise) to what happened to Kanan. Luke was able to see and celebrate after destroying the Death Star--Kanan was not even able to walk straight without Chopper. They're very different challenges. I don't think he'll be useless, and I do think the story potentials are now very interesting. So as much as it pains me, and Kanan, to see him like this--I'm excited to see where his story goes. Kintobor Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 So, yeah, that was a thing that happened. Let's start with the big one: the Ashoka/Vader fight was awesome. The dialogue, the actual fight, Ashoka actually managing to rough Vader up- it was really quite a spectacle. Being someone who jumped onto Rebels without seeing The Clone Wars, I did grow rather fond of Ashoka's character, and I was pretty antsy seeing the fight play out and knowing how it had to go down. So, yeah, job well done in that department. Also, for people complaining about Kanan's sight and how he's going to be a liability: he will more than likely have to rely on his other senses, like how he pushed Maul off of the pyramid through his hearing, sort of like a Jedi Toph Bei Fong. Although, this suddenly makes me wonder how much the blind Kanan variant figure is going to go for, and which set it will be released in. Probably going to be a San Diego Comic-Con exclusive or something. So, in summary, this episode was really, really good. Definitely the best this series has produced, and after hearing Sabine's going to be getting a more prominent role next season, I cannot wait to see what this series produces next. Quote
npgcole Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Man, this felt like a totally different show when compared to early season one! I thout it was amazing. When I first heard that Maul was coming back, I was like "Oh NO", because I HATED the fact that he survived in TCW after being separated in two and falling down a seemingly-endless shaft. In fact, just seeing those rediculous robo-legs made my blood boil. But in Rebels, I don't know why, but I don't mind him being the new enemy. Maybe it's just because he's keeping those legs covered, or maybe because he's more exciting and seems more of a threat than these Inquisitors (Who by the way, could fly with their lightsabers in this episode? Why have they never done that before, but here they did it all the time?) That fight between Vader and Ahsoka though. Kinda wish it was a little longer, but it was still cool. Vader's mask getting sliced and having Matt Lanter's and James Earl Jones' voices combined was a highlight. Oh, and personally, I think Ahsoka's alive, and that the last scene there wasn't a metaphor or whatever. They've never done something like that before in Star Wars, have they? And Vader survived, so... Oh, and Poor Kanan. Never to see Hera (or anyone) again. Excited for season three and intersted in what secrets are in that Holocron. Quote
General Magma Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 just seeing those rediculous robo-legs made my blood boil. I don't see how they're ridiculous. Quote
npgcole Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Well I guess they themselves aren't rediculous, I guess it just kind of reminded me of the fact that he survived his "death" in Episode I, which bugged me. Quote
Tariq j Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I saw it today, like others I thought it was excellent. All three of the Inquisitors Deaths kind of surprised me. I was expecting Ahsoka and Maul to die - but not the Inquisitors. I was a little disappointed that the Eighth Brother died so quickly without even seeing his face . I thought Maul's presence in the episode was excellent, he didn't dominate the entire story but he still had a good amount of influence on the story. There was that part of me that felt he had reformed - but didn't! It's interesting to see that once again his fate his left open. I kind of hope that when Season 3 does roll around they give a fitting end to character. I thought that Kanan being blinded was an interesting twist. It'll certainly have an effect on future missions and stories. It does sort of raise the question though - How will this affect Ezra's future training? Obviously Kanan still has the force but it'll still be a challenge trying to complete his training. The fight between Vader and Ahsoka was great! It didn't drag out for too long and the dialogue between them was excellent. I thought Vader's helmet being sliced open was a good addition and it was good to see he still had is eyebrows! I think the best scene though, was when Vader called Ahsoka's name in a mix between Matt Lanter and James Earl Jones. Quote
Toa of Gallifrey Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 I don't think the Eighth Brother is dead. I really loved this episode, it was a very bold move to blind Kanan and I can see this making for some very creative battles later on and some great moments. I look forward to seeing where Ezra's alignment with the Force goes. Quote
Forresto Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 (edited) For anyone like myself who has not seen the episode but want to see the duel, or you just want to rematch it someone has uploaded it to youtube. (Obviously spoilers are entailed) Having watched the duel now, and bits of the episode, that may have been one of the coolest things on Rebels so far. They handled the whole thing very well. I was hesitant when I heard about Ahsoka cutting parts of the helmet because I got a mental image of her walloping Vader. Vader however seemed to always have an upper hand in the fight sort've like his duel with Obi-Wan in ANH (and yes I know Obi Wan sacrificed himself intentionally but still). I also think that while ambiguous it's pretty clear Ahsoka died or is fatally wounded. When she was limping down the tunnel, she appeared to fall just prior to disappearing into the dark. Combined with the fact that Filoni has said she's never coming back, she might as well be. If there was only one drawback to the whole episode which i've been seeing bits and pieces of online, it was that they made it ambiguous. I think the only reason that didn't outright was marketing reasons, she's a popular character who Disney (not Filoni and crew) may wish to continue merchandise. Overall as someone who has been continually critical of Rebels for it's portrayal of the Empire (stormtroopers who can't hit from three feet away really? ) this episode has blown me away. Cyberfounder Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) Here is another thing that bothers me, Ezra is able to hold of Vader, even if it's only for a few moments and Vader is holding back, but still... While Kanan, who has more experience, can't even hold of 1/2 Maul... Edited April 3, 2016 by Cyberfounder Quote
