Forresto Posted October 14, 2016 Posted October 14, 2016 (edited) I don't know if it was posted here but someone asked Dave Filoni if X-Wings were ever going to appear on the show. He replied if they do it would be an awful lot like this scene from Empire of the Sun where P-51 Mustangs come out of nowhere and raid the Japanese Airfield Christian Bale's character is imprisoned at. Empire of the Sun P-51 Cadillac of the Skies! Now all I can think of is "X-Wings! Cadillac of the Stars!" Edited October 14, 2016 by Forresto Quote

Forresto Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 (edited) If you happen to be an Ashoka fan, apparently the audiobook of the new Ashoka book is voiced by Ashley Eckstein. SW audiobooks tend to be really good so that may be worth checking out. Hera's Heroes: It was pretty good. Although I feel it would have benefited greatly from being a two parter where the first episode finishes with Ezra and Hera imprisoned and the others cornered by the patrol. The Thrawn scenes were incredible however! He turned a mediocre episode into a great one! Having read Lords of the Sith i'm curious how this Imperial commander fits in with the greater Ryloth scene. For once I rather enjoyed an Imperial officer's obtuseness, especially next to Thrawn in that interrogation scene". I am convinced that the end of this episode all but implies something terrible is going to happen to the Ghost crew at the end of this season. They seem to happy. So far something always happens at the end of each season that changes the show's dynamic and forces the rebels to adapt. We've gone from abandoning Lothal at the end of season 1. Season 2 they were on the run until the end when they establish a base. What will season 3 end on? I think someone's going to die Edited October 16, 2016 by Forresto Quote

Try watching it on kisscartoon.com. That's how I've been able to see the series. Recent episode was good. I kinda think it also should have been a 2 part episode arc. Really liked Thrawn and the officer. I'm really looking forward to the next episode with the battle droids. Also someone uploaded the whole audio book of the Ahsoka book on youtube. I've listened for about an hour and I like it so far. Quote
RetroInferno Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 I really don't get why Thrawn has let them go twice now? Studying your enemy is important but letting go the Ghost with the whole crew with 2 known force users inside? Good episode but I don't want Thrawn to drag things for all the duration of the season with no payoff... Quote

Good episode but I don't want Thrawn to drag things for all the duration of the season with no payoff... Because Thrawn doesn't want just the Ghost crew. He wants the entire rebel fleet. He's waiting for the precise moment when he can uproot the rebel cell and kill it in one fell swoop instead of multiple costly skirmishes, ones where he might not have full control over what happens. xboxtravis7992 Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) I finally buckled down and bought the Season 2 DVD a few days ago; and spent all my time binge watching the season in these last few days. Oh my gosh! Like I knew from reading all the posts you guys had made, and from the few episodes I had seen that the series was going to brilliant; but I wasn't aware it was that brilliant. The characters were all very good, I like how the series focused on a core group of people who I came to care about. The sound design was brilliant; it had all the classic 1970-esque Star Wars sounds, with a music track that gave us new renditions of the classic John Williams work, plus new songs. On a nerdier side note, the amount of Legends stuff that Rebels is re-canonizing again is sure insanity. In the old Legends canon I thought things such as Malacore, Quasar Fire Cruisers, and RX-Pilot droids would have been mentioned once or twice, to never appear again. But Rebels is bringing back so many of those obscure elements, and throwing them in front and center. I am excited to catch up to Season 3. I might have to stop reading this thread for a while, at least until Season 3 finishes so I don't read any spoilers. My only regret watching Season 2 is that I knew beforehand how it ended; and with the new story involving Thrawn it is time for me to bug out; and wait patiently for my chance to finally catch up with the series. Until then though, I might spend some time hunting for those Season 1 discs! Edited October 21, 2016 by xboxtravis7992 Quote
Forresto Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I might have to break down and buy the season 2 on blue ray as well so I can finally watch it in proper quality and not through other sources. I can't speak for the entirety of season 3 as obviously we still have a long ways to go until we get more information on what the overarching theme of the series is. For instance whether Thrawn is a success on the show will largely depend on how well they execute what his overall plan is and that most likely will be the finale. Thrawn is all about playing the long game, and if the long game doesn't pay off for the audience that'll be disappointed. However season 3 is I think even better then season 2 so far. If you like season 2 you'll love season 3. I imagine, and this is just my predictions, that there are going to be a bunch of Rogue One tie ins such as characters in that debuting here but later on in the season when we are closer to December. If anyone has seen the preview for tomorrow's episode and pieced a few things together there's already a loose connection to Rogue One in that. We still have to get X-Wings and U-Wings in the mix. ChiefPie Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 I just finished watching the new episode. It was a good throwback to TCW. I enjoyed it. The biggest throwback that I had emotion for was the ending credits. The Rebels logo was stylized like TCW was and the end music was TCW music. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Its funny, I just realized when I binge watched the Season 2 discs, I somehow completely skipped the episode involving the Space Whales! And since @Oky wrote such a rough review of the episode in the Eurobrick's Blog; I am not dying to rush and see it. Wish I had noticed it when I was watching them for the first time through; now it just feels like doing Star Wars "homework." Well I guess if I want some Space Whales I should go and watch Star Trek IV instead! Quote
Forresto Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) The Last Battlefield got me. I never realized how much I enjoyed and miss the years of watching the Clone Wars when I was younger. I still remember the lead up to the movie and how exciting it was to finally have new Star Wars material. The same way people talk about how the franchise being done after Return of the Jedi and then how exciting it was to get Heir to the Empire, I felt the same way about the Clone Wars. The end title and credits gave me some feels that I don't often get from an animated series that frequently. What I really dig about the episode is how much it humanized the separatists. The Super Tactical Droid is a fantastic character. I also loved that we get a definite answer that by Revenge of the Sith the Republic's odds of victory were slim at best, really goes to show how desperate and devastating the war got. Rex also emphasizes how dangerous battle droids are which is satisfying since they are all too often considered a joke. Quote of the Episode: Battle Droid: "Roger roger!" Ezra: "Whose Rodger?" Edited October 23, 2016 by Forresto Quote
ChiefPie Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 The best part was when the droids came out to meet the stormtroopers. The stormies started shooting them and then they looked up to watch the At-At step on the last droid. Quote
makoy Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Probably the best line of the episode: "Who's roger" Quote
TeufelHund Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I actually enjoyed that episode far more than I thought I would...although it seemed a bit strange the stormtroopers saying "you know the drill" after just saying how long it was since they'd actually seen any other battledroids (also that they were actually capable of hitting them accurately). It was also funny that the droid commander recognised that his droids weren't accurate enough to hit a huge missile by themselves and his plan was to shoot at the jedi and get them to deflect the bolts at the missiles. Good to see some droids escape too - maybe they'll start a new factory on Genesis now that it's been cleansed by the Empire and build some reinforcements? Quote
Artanis I Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 I really enjoyed this episode, what with all the TCW feel. All those droid sounds that have been out of the show for a while. It seems strange to call it nostalgia though, it's not that long ago! On 23/10/2016 at 4:33 AM, ChiefPie said: The biggest throwback that I had emotion for was the ending credits. Japanbuilder Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 Also loved the latest episode. It threw into stark relief how pointless the Clone Wars were. Good to see Rex and the droids start to move on from it. Though admittedly Rex was pretty much defined by the wars. I never realized until I watched this episode how much the Clone Wars series had done to humanize the clones. On film they are treated like disposable people and you don't feel the least bit for them. In fact, you dread them as they will become the first generation of Imperial Storm Troopers. So episodes like these that show their human side are a gem. Wish I could say the same for the droids though. Never have minded watching tons of them get blown to pieces. heh heh. Quote

It was so-so; but a bit over the top with its environmentalism feeling like a cliched story we have heard thousands of times. Seriously I have heard nobody talking about "Save the Whales" since 1999... Quote

In "Antilles Extraction," Sabine helps Wedge defect from the Empire. Years later, in Aftermath, Wedge tells Rae Sloane that the Empire hurt his family and a woman he once loved. Judging by his actions and demeanor in "Antilles Extraction," this hasn't happened yet. The novel also mentions that after defecting, Wedge broke his leg in an A-Wing crash and worked as a gunner on a freighter before being able to fly a fighter once again. What are the most prominent fighters used by the Rebel Alliance in Rebels? A-Wings. What if the freighter Wedge worked on was the Ghost and his family was the crew? What if the woman he loved was Sabine? Also, sometime after the Battle of Endor, Wedge creates Phantom Squadron. I don't think I need to explain where "Phantom" could have come from. Also, a side note: Thrawn uses his understanding of the enemy's art as an advantage in battle. Who in the Rebel Alliance is an artist? Sabine. Who is most vulnerable to Thrawn? Sabine. ChiefPie Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Imperial commandos was a pretty good episode. Apparently the commando in red was a mandalorian who was a maul supporter. I can't wait to see the dark saber episode now. I also hope we get some imperial commando minifigures some time. Quote
RetroInferno Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Is the two weeks per episode schedule here to stay for the rest of the season? It really sucks! Quote

RetroInferno Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) Last episode was so godamn dumb... It looks like the Ghost can take the firepower of a light frigate + 2 transports at point blank for a good while when previously getting chased by TIEs without much stress. I think the Death Star 2 shields are getting jealous. The definitive highlight was Captain Rex congratulating the Iron Squadron VERY awkwardly, launching his fist into the air a good 5 seconds after they celebrate their victory, a bit like ''Yeah screw these kids, he's no Han S.... I mean Dash Rendar''. It's a kid's show obviously, and a good one, but I just think it's the format I'm having trouble with; with 20 minutes and some scraps you can't get attached to these newly introduced characters, especially since they never appear in any other episodes or serve any further purpose ( remeber that B-wing that could blow up light imperial frigates in a single shot? mmmh? cause the rebels don't ) . Heck, even main characters like Zeb got like what, 60 seconds of appearance in season 3 so far? Thrawn is used as a crutch by the story writters to show how scary the empire can be, only they assume the audience already know the guy, and they barely established the character. He had a single good character establishment episode, Hera's heroes, in other episodes he's barely there, studying the rebels or showcasing his colleagues's incompetence to get through the ranks. I believe in the 'Show, don't tell''' practice and that's sadly most of what they've not been doing. ''Ohhh, you're grand admiral now, how?'', ''He got a lot of collateral victims during his mission on whatever planet''. They did not show any of what he was capable yet, and when you're at episode 7 of your third season it's bad. The season had a pretty good start ( The last battle was incredibly nostalgic towards Clone Wars fans and a fun ride, The Antilles extraction was a superb episode and I already talked about Hera's Heroes ), but Imperial Super Commandos ( Sabine being showcased as some sort of Daughter of the Mandalorian Gods level of skills wrecking 5 grown megablocks mandalorians psychos with the help of an angsty soon to become sith apprentice and an ex mandalorian chieftain who's been rotting in his cell for several years and now this episode where the premise is ''Mmmhh wonder if Sato is gonna show up if any of his family member gets kidnapped, yes he does!, - The End'' I could also rant about Ezra being a piss poor protagonist but that's for another day.
