Kez Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Are any of you guys looking forward to the new xbox One, I for one am, here is some news about it: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/ The only thing that I may not like about it is the fact that you can not resell games, also the price tag is quite hefty Edited May 21, 2013 by Kez Quote
just2good Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 It's called the Xbox One. Built in Kinect, and it also serves as a TV box. Quote
Kez Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 Oops my bad, I thought it was called 720, I guess I should have read the title I am looking forward to more info though Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I am not at all excited. Most of the new features I would not use and it has just been announced it is not backwards compatible with 360 games. I am just going to stick with playing games on the PC Quote
CM4Sci Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I'm not a big 'console' person, but I like the look of it. -Sci Quote
Bighappysmiles Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Well......I can do all that on my PC......well maybe not kinnect.....But I have a wii U so I can play active games if I want Quote
Kez Posted May 21, 2013 Author Posted May 21, 2013 I actually quite like the xbox one now that I've seen it, it has grown on me and it isn't as bad as the rumours made it out to be, the only thing that I don't like is the price, il probably get this for Christmas though along with other lego (I guess I have to get saving right after I've bought Orthanc ) http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2013/05/xbox-one/ Quote
Masked Builder Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Getting 360 when this one comes out. I like some of the new features, but not all of them. Nice to see that it can play Bluray, though the PS3 has done that for years! Quote
CMP Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) A few factors are keeping the PS4 ever so slightly above the Xbox One in my eyes...namely this used games fee on the X1 and the intense focus on the Kinect, which though optional, is sure to rocket the price up on the console given it's now a pre-packaged necessity for it. I won't be getting either console day one anyway, and I'm sure there'll be a lot more information to base my decision on by then, but for now, PS4. Still, X1 has the timed exclusive DLC to many popular games and I'm a sucker for Gears of War and Halo, so... Okay, so according to to Kotaku, the 'used game fee' is the same price as full retail for the game...in short, Microsoft is trying to cut out used games. Bad move. Hopefully this'll encourage more people to buy a PS4 instead and keep brick and mortar used game stores in business... Edited May 22, 2013 by CallMePie Quote
Sam892 Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I like the new Xbox but some things bothered me. First off the whole used game thing doesn't just apply to used games. If you want to multiple accounts use one disc you have to pay a fee. Which means parents with two kids have to pay an extra amount of money if they want both kids to play a game. Same as with a boyfriend and a girlfriend one has to pay a fee. The second is that kinect has to always be plugged in. I never bought kinect because I personally don't like the whole idea behind it, that's why I sold my wii. I don't want to have to shout at an electronic device, I have Siri but its never used. Mainly because picking up a controller isn't really an inconvience. Lastly nearly everything they showed off TV wise only really was relevant to the USA. I'm not sure how any of that transfers to the UK. While I wouldn't have expected anything really detailed, it would have been nice if they just said " and its the same in Europe but with their channels". Quote
Electricsteam Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) They have just gone greedy with the new XBOX1. You shouldn't need to pay to play a game on multiple accounts. This explains the situation perfectly. I spend way too much time on Imgur... Edited May 22, 2013 by Electricsteam Quote
Tobias_Jay Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) My main problem with these new consoles (aside from the WiiU) is there is no backwards compatibility! I don't own a Xbox 360 and don't plan on getting one anytime soon, but I have a lot of friends that do. This is meant to be an upgraded version of the older console, like the same thing with new bells and whistle attached. If my games library is my photos in my photo album, I am not going to scrap those photos just because a shiner photo album hits the market. Nerd rage mode deactivated. BrickG Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 (edited) Terrible showing. Terrible name. The Wii U is having an issue. That being casual console buyers don't even know it's a new console. This is affecting sales. The Xbox "One" will have exactly the same issue! Heck, lots of stores and people already refer to the first Xbox as the Xbox One (often having the used game section say exactly that). Also... where are the GAMES!? It's a GAME console. Yet we only heard about TV and a few SPORTS games. SPORTS! lol... There's a good reason SONY's stock went up 9% after this. They had a horrible freakin' showing and most people know it. If you love TV and Sports games I suppose you can be happy with it but for the most part people aren't. I predict that even without a proper conference this E3, Nintendo will "win" E3. They are going to show the next SMASH BROS, plus have a Zelda to show and Pokemon X and Y. They've never lost an E3 where they showed a Smash Bros game. Edited May 22, 2013 by BrickG Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I would like a new Xbox, however I will not be able to buy it for several years, and then I am not sure if I would spend the money on it when my 360 still runs just fine! However as to if the Xbox One, Wii U, or PS4 will win the console wars; I don't care. They all are unique systems with their own special qualities. There is also a sort of karma to the video game industry, I have long accepted that I an Xbox fan would want to play Uncharted, and that their are PS fans who want to join me in Halo; at the end of the day we are all in the same boat. Besides, us AFOL's know the only real consumer product war worth fighting is the one between Lego and Mega Blocks, who cares who wins the console wars? Quote
The Brigante Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 After my initial excitement over the X1, I think I'll probably hold of a year or so before getting it. During the announcement, and a few days after, I was pumped and already planning a saving budget. But now? I'm not so sure. No backwards comparability, having to pay to use discs on multiple accounts (this in particular bugs me as me and my friends swap game discs all the time, to the point where now, we just have one collective library). IF my favourite tiles (Gears, Assassin's Creed, Forza) become X1 only and not 360 then I'll make the jump. Until then, my good ol' battered and bruised 360 ain't going nowhere. Quote
halomaster96 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I liked it at the announcement, I don't mind the used game fee too much, but the thing that killed it for me is the fact that they said if you don't log in for two days straight, then the system will lock you out, you'll lose all of your stuff and all you'll have left is a very expensive paper weight. Quote
Scubacarrot Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I'm more impressed by the PS4 than by the Xbox One (stupid name). I should say I own and play on an Xbox 360 since it came out. The used games fee is not consumer friendly and a perfect way to alienate your customers. For me it basically means I can't lend and borrow games with my friends. Kinect is completely uninteresting to me (you're telling me it will actually work well, yeah right). The whole TV thing they went on about seems useless as well, I have a remote, why would I need an Xbox to do stuff with it? There just doesn't seem to be a reason to have an Xbox One. In my mind the Xbox 360 got so popular because of three things: more games, cheaper, better network. They don't seem to hold those cards this time around. Playstation Network works well now and is free, and is going to continue to be free. Playstation Plus is paid and is amazing. Xbox Live is more expensive than Playstation Plus, but it's only to be able to play online, no free games. Xbox One showed NO game footage, announced no games.... Yeah. For now, either I'm getting neither, or a PS4. "the thing that killed it for me is the fact that they said if you don't log in for two days straight, then the system will lock you out, you'll lose all of your stuff and all you'll have left is a very expensive paper weight. " That sounds like nonsense to me. I can't imagine that is true. Quote
Faefrost Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Have you read up on this thing? It's really creepy as hell. It will not work without the kinect attached, the kinect is never truly turned off, keeps a running biometric profile of anyone who happens to walk by and filters nearby speech for identifiers to do things like learn people's names, and the thing listens for people's heartbeats. Oh and the console does in fact need Internet attachment and must call home at least once a day or it bricks itself until it can. Who designed this thing? Janet Napolitano? Quote
Darth Lurtz Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) What was Microsoft thinking with the Xbox 1(984)? Edited May 26, 2013 by Darth Lurtz Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 No backwards compatibility? And you potentially get locked out after 2 days of non-use? No thank you. I play video games about once a month anymore due to time, so this wouldn't be for me. But if I was still single, I may consider it. But since I'm getting my Sega Genesis from my parents this weekend and my wife bought me some new Sega games, I think I will stick with that for now. Classic consoles FTW! Quote
Kooberz Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Haha! I'm so glad there is a forum for this topic, because I made my own Lego Xbox One! I hope you enjoy...warning! Only plays Minecraft and Lego Island. Backwards compatible with Duplo. For the record, I like all the consoles...even made a Lego Wii U...and I'll try to make the PS4. Quote
Scorpiox Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Terrible, simply terrible. I'm actually trying to convince myself one single reason that this is worth a single pence of my money. Microsoft's decisions reek of greed, nothing more. Quote
Jedi master Brick Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 First bit of good news concerning the X box one; Microsoft say they have spent $1 billion on devoping games. Also I agree with what they are doing on used games, this viedo sums it up nicely . Overall I still will stay on the PC unless their E3 conference announces a few good games. Quote
BrickG Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Unless they pull out some amazing Xbox One EXCLUSIVES (meaning not going to the PC either which most Xbox exclusives end up doing) and a lot of them at this point I'll go PS4 if I have to choose between the two. Already have a WiiU (not very good yet but Smash Bros and Zelda later...). Quote
halomaster96 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Who else wants less reasons to buy this system? http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/connected I know what I'm going to buy! A Wii U! Quote
