BobaFonz Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Just my two cents on all of the summer sets. 75015 Corporate Alliance Tank Droid- I love the looks of this one. The design is a huge improvement over the 2009 version, but the lack of a printed dish feels odd to me. And I've never been to keen on sets with a large amount of the same piece, but I'd buy this one mostly for the minifigures; a new Jango is something we've sorely needed for 10 years! As many of these sets, this one feels outmatched, one clone vs so many droids? He'd be dead in seconds! $20 is a great deal for what we get, and I'll be getting at least three of these. 75016 Homing Spider Droid- I really like the looks of this one! It's a big improvement over the original, especially with the curved bricks to form the "ball" shape. The dwarf spider droid feels off, due to the color, but has an improved design. The new Stass Allie is a welcome addition, and a non-CW version at that! This could have used an additional clone or two, because it feels really stacked towards the CIS, as with the Tank Droid. $30 is a decent price, but should have been less. Even so, I'm still buying at least two of these. 75017 Duel on Geonosis- This one is my favorite of the wave, mostly because of the minifigures (I love the new Yoda, Dooku, and Poggle), but the color scheme really attracts me for some reason. There's just so many features and playability with this one, with a collapsing pillar, the "jumping" function for Yoda, and the speeder; these are all improvements over the 2002 version. However, my only gripe is the stick one can use to control Yoda. 90% of the time it doesn't move how you'd want it too, because of the technic connectors used to build it. Something like 7257 would have been better. $40 is a good deal to me, and I'll definitely be buying this one! 75018 Jek-14's Stealth Starfighter- Yes, this is a black E-wing Starfighter. I'm not a fan of the Yoda Chronicles, but I still like this ship. I don't know why, as it has its share of problems, but I think it's mostly the color scheme. This also has some great pieces, and wouldn't be too hard to re-color as a normal E-wing. In addition, the minifigures aren't that bad, but don't really have as much appeal as the other selections from the other sets. For $70? Pass, unless I see a sale in the future. 75019 AT-TE- Meh, I mostly like this one for the minifigures (Coleman Trebor, the one I'd thought we'd never see). There's only a few small differences from the 2008 version, and that's no reason to shell out $90. I would just buy the minifigures separately from the set and place them in my 2008 edition. Still, a decent set, but not enough reasons to buy it. 75020 Jabba's Sail Barge- Don't take offense, but I prefer this one to the original. This one has its share of issues (flick-fire deck cannon, price, and opening front hatch), but the pros outweigh the cons! It seems to have a more proper shape, and it has better minifigures than the 2006 version (Ree-Yees, Weequay Guard, and Slave Leia ). The better colors are another plus. A great addition to the band of the Jabba Sub-theme, but I'll wait until we get this on sale. $120 is too high, but it's a better deal than 9516 at least. I'll do 75021 through 75025, UCS X-Wing, and the Ewok Village later. See you around! Quote

I mean yes the deck space is more limited and we have the non-canon cannon on the front but it has a better shape. And I prefer this brick built solution for the nose rather than using the same repeated piece. I only wish it were about $20 cheaper, and that they had included a couple of other figures instead of Jabba since we get him in the palace already (But I suppose I understand the logic of including him here too). I think a Jabba's Sail Barge with no Jabba would have been a strange choice. I actually like it a lot more now and agree with the brickbuilt nose. I find it strange though that we have one third of the Max Rebo band though with no sign of Snootels or McCool ever being released as I can't see there being any other Jabba related scenes released. I would have liked a Squid Head figure in this set. I shall wait until a 3for2 sale comes around in the UK to pick this up.. Quote
DrasticPlastic Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 The new sail barge is a huge improvement - doesn't fall to bits as the last one did and the jail cell now has 4 walls (the 2006 version was a bit odd there!). You can access the whole interior too. The cannon is a bit off but there's among the only areas not improved on Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I hope we will get a battle pack with more Geonosian B1 battle droids in the next wave. I like their new color (for the command droid, too). It is yet difficult to gather an army of them with the sets available. They are supposed to be cannon fodder and should be available in abundant amounts. Some more clones with the new print wouldn't harm either. Quote

Dragonfire Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I saw that. I plan to get around 15 of them. Quote
Onsay Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hey guys Just wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a U.S. release date for the summer sets, i tried trawling through the thread but nothing. I'm going to Hawaii in a couple of weeks and was hoping to get some sets at the US price and not the extortionate Australian prices Quote

An employee told me August, but I'm guessing mid-July. Quote
Admiral-Ackbar Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 It confuses me why TLG feels it necessary to have different release dates for each wave, usually with Europe getting them first before the UK or US, Canada, Australia, etc. Why not just have a massive worldwide release thingy and give everyone an even opportunity to buy sets? Also, the Ewok Village looks much better than I first thought, since it is actually a village, and the minifigure selection is wonderful (though it annoys me that it took this long to change the scout trooper printing). I think it is to do with ability for capacity of production of new releases. They stagger the releases of different themes so their production doesnt get sucked dry beyond capacity and therefore lose potential sales due to not being able to keep up. Imagine having to supply the entire world with the same theme at the same time at its release? The sudden onslaught of rush buying! As annoying as it can be, I can understand it from this point of view, whether I am right or wrong about it. Quote

Maybe we will get a Snootles and Ziro the Hutt in a swamp boat set, as one last TCW hurrah? Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 As long as Snootles doesn't have CW eyes, I'm good. But I think she would be difficult to make, due to her bizarre physiology. Poseablility would be very tricky as well. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I think that is correct. I've read something like that from somewhere else. To stagger the release allows more things to get produced instead of only focusing on ONE theme at a time. It allows easier transition and availability worldwide. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I first posted this in the wrong topic, I'm sorry. No problem. I moved your older post here and edited the strikethrough out, and I'll get rid of your newer post to avoid causing confusion. Brickdoctor Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Though I have no interest in the minifig itself, I think I agree with the general opinion that this was a poor decision to make it an exclusive. In the past, the exclusive minifigs have been characters like Chrome Threepio, Chrome Vader, White Boba, Chrometrooper, Shadow ARF, Chrome TC-14 -- minifigs that are very nice to have in your collection, but which aren't minifigs you would normally find in a regular System set. Now this year with the Hoth Han and this minifig, the exclusive doesn't seem as special and it also seems like a bad idea to make it hard to get a minifig that could've been very popular in a regular set. Before this year, I probably would have said that there wasn't an appropriate System set to put this minifig in. The Clone Commander is the only officer with a prominent role in Clones. But after they got the sergeant and the captain into other sets... If I was an army builder, I might feel cheated that TLG gave us these other minifigs in sets that they didn't have to be in, but then withheld one of the set as an exclusive. Quote
The Legonater Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Frankly, there's a lot of reasons I'd want the Lieutenant, namely the Null-ARCs and the Muunilist 10. The Lieutenant is sort of an arbitrary rank to make an exclusive, as well. It ruins army-building potential, and it's not any more special than the other ranks. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Odd choice for an exclusive, could be pricey on the second hand market too! Quote
