While they do talk too much in some reviews, at least they don't complain about the littlest things like legoboy does. I remember back from his umbaran mhc review he was complaining that the color of the 212th was completely off, saying that it "pisses him off," even though it was fairly accurate.

On the bright side, at least it's an opinion. (And I'm not saying that I enjoy it, because I don't really enjoy video reviews in general.) A lot of video reviews (by many different video reviewers) have too many generic adjectives without specific explanation, are unnecessarily wordy, are distracting to listen to the poster moving around the microphone, and make it hard to concentrate on any details -- especially waiting for the camera to autofocus -- because they're video reviews and not text-based ones.

As far as availability of good reviews of these sets early on, it doesn't really bother me. I usually don't buy the sets as soon as they come out, and I usually have already seen all of the pictures before it comes out (GRogall! :wub_drool: ), so if for one reason or another I still can't make up my mind, I wait for an RA review.

A lot of video reviews could be greatly improved if they weren't rushing through to be "first". Most of them um & ah and repeat themselves like they're just making it up as they go, and seem to be trying to do the whole thing in 1 take. And all you get to see is 1 or 2 angles of the final built model... wow I can look on the Lego website for that.

Two things I noticed about the advent calendar:

1. Why does the clone have a CW helmet and a AotC torso?

2. It looks like the dropship will be able to pick up the AT-TE. Interesting.

Don't forget most of the bigger set reviews are over 15 minutes long, while reading one will only take five minutes at the most. Michealmgf really needs to shorten his reviews, his Iron Man Malibu Mansion Attack set review was half an hour! The set isn't even that big.

Hi

i am aware that i am a bit off topic but it is all Brickdoctors fault (pointing with my finger on him) ;)

I do not like video reviews as you do too. As photographer i would like some explain this:

With a little effort, some equipment (white background, two or more difuse lights) a camera, a tripod and software (no, it does NOT have to be photoshop), nearly everyone can do images that are close to those from professionals. Very close! I read this here quite often that people do "better images than Lego did" and i can support this statement.

But video is something completela different, there are at least three new dimensions that photography do not have: Time, audio and "direction".

We are very familiar with professional video, can be seen on TV in movie theaters and as stream in any PC. We are not even think about the complexity that those videos have, because we see that so often.

If you try a video by your own, you have to make sure that all lightning, everything that counts for a single image in photography counts in video making 25times per second, very second, every minute, evertime! Normal people do not have a setup that illuminates a whole video as we are familiar with TV stuff.

Audio: No, people do nat have propper audio equipment and knowledgetoo, to handle audiostreams as seen "on TV". So even we are able to do a good still image, we do not know by average to make propper audio. That is why most home videos "look" like non pro because they sound like non pro.

Directing: Did you ever ask yourself what a director does? If no, never try a video by your own ;) Please! :) Everything we see "on Tv" is highl directed and scripted without our awareness because it happens so often. Only when directing fails (repetition, long statements without cuts, all you mentioned above) we identify home videos easily as they are.

There are much more points to discuss, but this should everyone show easily how difficult it is do to propper professional like video. Because we are sooo familiar with. Images are much easier to do as close as prossible to professional results.

That is why i love most of EB reviews, well writtern (RUFUS!) and nice photography.

@Brickdoctor: I will not keep sticking on photo vs videos review here anymore. I you like, put out everything regarding that into a new topic. Or just leave it here, i will not do post againg regarding this

the spaceships dont have the same scale but are designed to have the same size

im still wondering if the rebel trooper will have boromirs face (as shown on the front-box) or have a full beared (as shown in the detail view of the calendar)

Wow, thanks for the link, Doctor! The set is as amazing as I thought it would be, but I may not get it when it first comes out due to its high price.

Well, since the topic of Video Reviews was brought, I might as well come and clear some things up since I'm one of them.

First of all, in the Video Review/LEGO YouTube Community, its usually about who can be the first to review the set, however thats not always the case. Its really a mini circle of the big reviewers (Me, BrickQueen, BrickShow, and other popular LEGO reviewers), between us we all have large fan bases and so theres a small competition of who can do the review first, that usually grabs more audiences.

Video reviewing is usually done with the "make up as you go" kinda thing, but I've learned to not do that, I usually spend 30 minutes to and hour playing with the set and figuring out how it play with others, I'll also reaserch some facts about it, etc.

The reason why video reviews are so long, and it least for me, popular, is because fans come back to me because they don't just wanna see what the set has to offer, but they come for my opinion on whether I think it's worth it and give backup reason's for that opinion.

A lot of you "experienced" builders know that backup info so it get's a bored or something around it to you. It's a different community on YouTube, a lot of my fans and viewers don't know much about LEGO and they wanna make sure there not getting ripped and know exactly what to expect from the set, that's what I do.

So next time you watch a video review, understand that were making it for a different audience, I try my best to get to the point and not draw things out, but some people just wanna hear that.

All right, let's try to keep this a bit more on-topic now. A bit of discussion about video reviews vs. pictorial reviews was fine, but now we should move back to the purpose of this topic. :classic:

Thanks for posting this; it makes me want that set even more. I like his mention that each of the trees is different, so there's no repetitious building.

I noticed R2's head in the review is the Clone Wars version and not the movie one. I wonder if thats going to be a mass production error?

There is a clone wars specific R2 head? I thought it was just "old style" (printed on white) and "new style" ( wider printing on lt bley piece). They aren't viewed as specific for movies vs TV series. Just updated printing on the universally used fig?

On the left is the CW R2:

[snip]

I always liked the original R2-D2 figure best, but now since lego has made it shiny I really like the new one. Looks much better than a grey dome.

Being that San Diego Comic Con is coming up, someone should make a 2014 page so this one doesn't get cluttered when we see the reveal.

The staff is about two weeks ahead of you. We're prepared, you just can't see it.

Awesome set! If I were 10 I'd have so much fun with it... I always used to play with my LEGO sets with a story, endless hours of fun. But I eventually grew up and "playing" with the set isn't amusing anymore (even if I try)... stupid age :hmpf_bad: I didn't have a lot of LEGO back then and still, I was the happiest kid on earth. I can't imagine how my childhood would've been if I had all the LEGO sets I have right now

The price in USD is 250 right?
