Vash the Stampede Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Any direction seems to be as good as the other at this point. Shall we go right?"
Dannylonglegs Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 With Dreyrugr returned, the party heads down the left path. They reach two corners that turn right, and follow them until they reach another fork. Will they go forward, right, or back? Forward's obviously the correct solution." Stated Sylph, listening to the subterranean harmonics, "but I'll take the other path to see what's there. You all wait."
Dannylonglegs Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Sylph calmly strode back to the group, black smoke trailing behind him. He brushed some lingering dust from his cloak. "Gentlemen, there's a distraction down that way, in the form of a Treasure-Seeker and an Orc. They shouldn't be too hard to kill. I could have done it alone, I think, but it would have taken a long amount of time. Should we leave them, or kill them? They are well endowed in terms of possessions, I might add." Sylph stated coolly, and matter-of-fact-ly, examining the tip of one of his arrows.
Vash the Stampede Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 They are well endowed in terms of possessions, I might add." Loot? "They might slow us down later so I'm up for a fight."
Palathadric Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Besides, it's always a good idea to kill of those who can only be a hindrance to the workings of God on this planet. There are already far too few doing what's right that we cannot allow ourselves to be hindered by those who would seek to ensnare us. Let us go and rout them out now, before they attempt to lay a trap for us. Do we need somebody to stay back and watch this passage though?" "Oh, and for the duration of the quest, let me hand each of you a Smoke Bomb since none of you seem to have prepared well enough to bring a few along." I hand one smoke bomb to each party member, assuming that Sylph used his.
Myrddyn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Well, I'll go with you guys, though I'd like if we could try talkin' before we try choppin'. Maybe they're decent people, and they're just here looking for treasure, hey? Why've you all decided it'll come to a fight, anyway?"
Vash the Stampede Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) "Well, I'll go with you guys, though I'd like if we could try talkin' before we try choppin'. Maybe they're decent people, and they're just here looking for treasure, hey? Why've you all decided it'll come to a fight, anyway?" "Because that's generally what it comes to. For example that necromancer jumped straight into fighting and I'm certain he isn't the first you've met who prefers to fight than talk things through. For me it's much easier to strike first than try and talk things through. Especially when almost everyone I meet has the same personality as the monk. Be realistic." herrJJ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "You are right, Erik. Fighting and killing is not the hero's way. I am sorry, Monk but I don't think you are right. The way of the Gods is not full of blood but made of peace. Anyways we should see what is there. At least staying alive is important so any surprises should be KILLED! INTO THE FIGHT!" Nessa screamed with blood rushing through her veins rapidly.
Vash the Stampede Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "You are right, Erik. Fighting and killing is not the hero's way." "The hero's way? You realise hero is just a glorified title. Could you say what we did in Brendenton was heroic? Read up on most of the quests done and what occurred and honestly tell me that those who went on them were heroes. Over my years I've seen only enough heroes to count on one hand."
Myrddyn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Erik nods in agreement with Nessa's blue words, and when she suddenly starts talking in red, he is fairly surprised, but does a decent job of hiding it. Just like that knight on my first quest. What's he got? Two personalities, in addition to his own, and a "demon floating at his back?" He begins to think to himself, but quietly mumbles the last bit. "Megablocks. Did I say that out loud? Well, miss Nessa, you think of something you want me to help you with, tell me. I've got a bit of experience dealing with split personalities."
herrJJ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "I think I don't understand. What do you mean by split personalities?"
Myrddyn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Well, I don't understand it that well, but... lets see... hmm... not sure about that one with the little kids friend... but then there was Sorrow and Syntax as well as Drake on that first one with the proggs... so, yeah, on average, every quest I've been on has had one person who... changed their opinion spontaneously?"
herrJJ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Nessa's expression reminded of a question mark as she listened to Erik's words.
Myrddyn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Um, so you were just talking about the importance of peace, then you suddenly started yelling about killing people?" He turns to the rest of the party. "That did happen, right, guys?"
herrJJ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "I think you should take care of your own business, friend." Nessa put a strange emphasis on the last word as if it was a threat.
Myrddyn Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "...Um... ....sorry, miss... I must'a been hallucinating... ...too much booze, I guess..."
Dannylonglegs Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) "Well, I'll go with you guys, though I'd like if we could try talkin' before we try choppin'. Maybe they're decent people, and they're just here looking for treasure, hey? Why've you all decided it'll come to a fight, anyway?" "No, they're far from decent. The Leader is exceedingly paranoid and mildly manipulative, shouting that I'd betray him and that no one can be trusted, not to mention narcissistic, while the orc was quite violent, calling me an enemy until I put him to sleep. Let's go finish the job. Shall we?" Edited June 18, 2013 by Dannylonglegs
herrJJ Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "What are we waiting for. This crossbow of mine is hungry."

Palathadric Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Hmm, it's like these enemies have been built to be immune to my attacks." "Well, being the situation as it is, I think my most valuable asset at present would be to lend the use of my shield in blocking off the attacks of the orc while we all focus on the drunkard. I think my sealing him, in that case, would be more useful than my attacking him. Demon, if you had thought to give me that hat before heading down here, I could tank his attacks perfectly." Battle Order: >Pretzel: Seal Dragon Dan >Sylph: Seal Dragon Dan or Blind if Already Sealed >Erik: Dragon Dan (Titanic Axe) From Front Row if Dan is Blinded Dreyrugr: Dragon Dan (Crow-Claw Dagger) Nessa: Dragon Dan (Silver Crossbow) When a targeted enemy is petrified, can they fight back? Petrified lasts until the end of the battle, right?
Palathadric Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) "Well, I'll go with you guys, though I'd like if we could try talkin' before we try choppin'. Maybe they're decent people, and they're just here looking for treasure, hey? Why've you all decided it'll come to a fight, anyway?" "That's a good attitude to have, but sometimes you've got to trust those with better people handling skills than you. They know better than you more often than not. Some of us can see into the heart and discern the intentions of enemies. It's best to follow our advice. These two can only spell trouble. They are insane with a greedy thirst for power." "Because that's generally what it comes to. For example that necromancer jumped straight into fighting and I'm certain he isn't the first you've met who prefers to fight than talk things through. For me it's much easier to strike first than try and talk things through. Especially when almost everyone I meet has the same personality as the monk. Be realistic." "If the world would just strike down the likes of you and not listen to your fiendish arguments before doing so, there would be no need to strike down others before speaking and attempting to resolve issues diplomatically." "The hero's way? You realise hero is just a glorified title. Could you say what we did in Brendenton was heroic? Read up on most of the quests done and what occurred and honestly tell me that those who went on them were heroes. Over my years I've seen only enough heroes to count on one hand." "Maybe to you the word 'hero' is just some glorified title. Some of us are actually trying to do good. Do we collect loot and pay? Of course, because without those we cannot be as much a force for good as we otherwise would be. If it weren't for my shield protecting us, these battles would be a lot harder to fight. I don't know what other heroes do with their time, and I know the hall is not what it used to be with the likes of you and other supposed 'heroes' strolling about and giving Heroica and heroes a bad name, but looking back at my quests since rejoining Heroica, I am proud of what I've done. I've slain a demon tyrannizing a village, I've protected a woman from horrible beasts in her vaults and restored her family treasures to her, I healed a dragon from a toxic malady, now I am determined to solve this murder case. I have done what I could when it was necessary to do. Granted I may not be the most pleased with helping the alchemist create his staff, but it worked out for good, as I was able to teach him valuable lessons at the end. I don't know what other heroes do in their time as heroes and I've quested with a variety of sorts, some more dedicated and sincere than others, but don't think that because you have no values and morals and that being a hero means nothing to you that it's the same for others." "I think I don't understand. What do you mean by split personalities?" "Basically demonic-possession. It happens disturbingly frequently to those weak of mind." "Well, I don't understand it that well, but... lets see... hmm... not sure about that one with the little kids friend... but then there was Sorrow and Syntax as well as Drake on that first one with the proggs...so, yeah, on average, every quest I've been on has had one person who... changed their opinion spontaneously?" "Oh please, you quested with Drake and that demon? I pity you, Erik. You must have had a hard time in Heroica. Is Drake as crazy in battle as he is in the hall?" "Um, so you were just talking about the importance of peace, then you suddenly started yelling about killing people?" He turns to the rest of the party. "That did happen, right, guys?" "Right! Sorry Nessa, but you did the same thing about that ship...what was it called again?" "...Um... ....sorry, miss... I must'a been hallucinating... ...too much booze, I guess..." "It wasn't the booze, Erik! Heck, you haven't even had a drop to drink, thank God!" Yeah, petrified enemies are more or less KO'd. Cool. So Erik basically has a 1/6 chance of rendering an enemy absolutely useless on hits. Freakin' awesome. Edited June 18, 2013 by Palathadric
Vash the Stampede Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 "Demon, if you had thought to give me that hat before heading down here, I could tank his attacks perfectly." "You haven't accepted anything from me and now you're blaming me saying it's my fault. Right, you make perfect sense. Choose an option and stay with it." -snip- "You know nothing about me so don't go assuming you know what I think. And as for heroes maybe you do see yourself as one but can you honestly say that most people in the hall are. Last quest I was on we were hired to give the Hinkwells a monopoly on selling cloth. Do you know how many people that put out of business and the mess it caused in the city? And that quest was allowed by the veterans knowing or at least guessing full well what would happen. You might think you're a hero but we're just hired to do whatever job for a reward. If you really thought a hero of yourself you wouldn't be doing 'quests' to help others for profit and you'd do it for free. Don't hide behind the notion that with the rewards you can do a better job, some people use all the money they own to pay for heroica to help and we find enough to get by quite well without it. And why do you think we pay money for good equipment in the first place. People wouldn't charge us if they thought heroica was full of heroes. The very fact you had to 'pay' so much for that wonderful shield of yours shows that even the people of Eubric don't see Heroica as heroes." Dreyrugr attacks Dragon Dan.
