To hasten things up, I sell my Magnifying Glass and Purchase the Magnificent Microscope and Hunter's Plate Armour, dipping into the party gold.

"Demon, if you want the Armour, then take it and consider it and pay me and the party back at the end of the quest. If you don't want it, I'll keep it and pay the party back when we get our salaries."

"Yes, thank you! We will be heading to the Baron's office now. Erik, for the time being, until I know for sure whether the demon wants it or not, and for the duration of the quest. It seems to make sense if I loan you the Hunter's Armour and you loan me the Lighter Armour. What do you say? Otherwise, perhaps, I'll just loan it to Nessa for now and she can equip it instead of her quiver."

CMP, the shields in the inventory are still off. Dreyrugr should have the Dragonbrand one, and I should have the Impervious Shield.

Also, the Scroll of Disenchantment should be in Pretzel's inventory, not Sylph's.

"Good. Then that's cleared up. I know you don't mind Erik using it. Right now, none of us can use your Black Knights Armour so it's probably better that way."

Sorry, Vash, just wanted to move the quest along.

I equip the lighter armour instead of my Ethereal Cloak

"Druid, do you want this Ethereal Cloak instead of your Quiver for now?"

Guh, sorry, pretty distracted lately. Gotta do up the Baron's office pictures real quick.

On the way to the barons office, Erik says to Nessa "Do you want to borrow this Hide of the Suffering? It's Sylph's, but it could be more useful than your quiver."

"M-Mr. Moke, sir. Human. Sir."

"Ah, you'll have to forgive Moke. A brilliant bastard, but not the most social man."

"Ah, understandable."

"Pleasure to meet you, Mr Moke. No need for formalities, but if you want to use them, I've no objection."

"Pleasure to meet you again, too, Mr Baron. We stopped along the way to talk and trade with some of your friends. It's a very nice place you've got here."

"Fascinating to be sure. I've been quite the hat collector recently. My head seems to take poorly to the cold so I always cover it, some things protect better than others. There is a certain dignity that comes with tall hats though. Wouldn't you agree?"

"M-Mr. Moke, sir. Human. Sir."

"Ah, Mr. Moke, a pleasure to meet you. Your hat is quite a brilliant work of craftsmanship as well, I must say. In fact, I've seen a female who was an assassin by profession who used such a hat as a weapon. I don't suppose yours has such capabilities though."I eye Moke carefully, but in a casual manner.

"Recently we've been working on fixing up some of the buildings. My office, of course, is meticulous, but I'm having Maggie fix up the shop and the Sluice. Won't get much business when the insides of our homes are as clean as the sewers they're in, eh? Haha!"

The gnomish financier runs off. The Baron leans back in his seat and looks from one party member to the next.

"So I take you're here to kill our little halfling houseguest, are you? I'm afraid you'll find yourselves quite outmatched - not that you're going to find him. We take care of eachother down here. This isn't the slaughterhouse life it is on the surface."

"Our kind does we need to to survive in your cutthroat surface world. He sought refuge here, yes, and has caused us no trouble at all since. In fact, the very rumor of him keeps people like yourself out of here. Arrest him? Hah. He's told me his stories himself. If half of them are true, I pity you for thinking you could hold your own against him. Why should I lead you to him?"

"Could we at least ask him some questions to discover the truth about the matter? If he is guilty, and I quite believe that he is, it is our duty (and surely, being the mayor of this town duty is something you understand the importance of) to turn him over to the respective authorities. What he does after that is between him and them. If his reputation is what you make it out to be, I am sure he can escape with ease. But for now we have a duty to fulfill and we cannot just leave this place empty-handed after we've searched the city high and low for this man. Besides, what kind of man he is. How well do you know him?"

Diplomacy is key.

Perhaps Dreyrugr should use intimidation. :look:

"Well, we came here to find Padfoot, as we have evidence he killed a particular merchant, and was probably paid to do so. He know about them though, and we need information if we are to continue our investigation." Sylph stated.

...Kind of forgot about those.

"Hmph. Not likely, he hasn't left since he arrived."

Sylph decided he'd waited long enough. "Look, mister mayor, I'm sorry for my compatriots. We don't want to arrest Padfoot or anything. "The bloody voice of reason at last. I don't like being lied to, for the future." The Baron grumbled. "You just want to chat with him? Unusual. He said any visitors would probably just be there to kill him....and I still have no reason to believe you won't. Now tha-"

Moke suddenly returned, with a small bottle of wine. He had barely set it down when the Baron waved him away again.

8743579240_10371718cf_t.jpg

"Go get their weapons, too."

Moke merely nodded, running off. The Baron popped open the bottle and poured it into a glass he'd pulled from under his desk.

8743579240_10371718cf_t.jpg

"Now that we're all being....supposedly....honest here, maybe we can strike an arrangement. It's obvious enough we're not that much of a town to look at, which, specifically, is several months behind my expectations. Moke has one job - collect money from the people and bring it to me. And he can't even do that right. Some of it vanishes before it even gets to me. I know it for certain by now, I've talked the numbers with everyone myself. I don't know what the hell he's been doing with it; and if I don't know everything that goes on down here, I'm not content. Put an end to it. He has the spine of a sewer maggot, so confronting him should work easily enough."

"Very well. You wish us to break down Moke's door, so to speak, in exchange for access to Padfoot's information? I believe I speak for all of my babbling associates when I say you have yourself a deal. If you'd be so kind as to return our weapons to us, we will confront him. Do you wish him to remain alive if worse comes to worse and we fight? I'd be lying if I said most of our confrontations ended with everyone in one piece."
