OOC: just to make things clear, Nessa does not care about reputation... but I do

Her actions were meant to show the good will and finally receive "the good word" for the Wolfgang

I take my possessions back from Sylph and then seize my Shackles of War (which I don't see in my inventory. :sceptic: ) and choke Gontzo which seems to be an effective way to kill slugmen.

I make sure that he is quite dead. I let the Death Progg escape, and I will not let it happen to another enemy.

"A better world? What kind of better world were you bringing to these little folk? Terrorizing their village. You call that a better life for them? I know your sort. If you come into power it will be the exact same story in Eubric, just a tyrannical leader enslaving the populace. You do not seem at all repentant for your actions either. Pitiful slug-lover. But no. We won't kill you. We will hand you over to the town watch. Or perhaps I will use to satiate our demon's blood lust." I shackle Reg.

Gontzo manages to force Pretzel off of him with his crossbow weakly. Reg strides between them before the monk can even think about shackling him.

"We're weakened, I'll give you that, but without numbers on your side you can't expect to finish the job, monk."

AKA, this is a group decision. Two votes for letting the Sewer Wolves go, one for imprisoning/offing them. 3/5 votes needed to decide.

I turn to Big Red after Nessa expended her Phoenix Essence reviving him.

"You seem a better sort than these sir. You are free to go, if you wish, but I will require your solemn word of honour that you will not continue to associate yourself with gangs such as this and that you will live a life of non-violence. Also, I would advise you to train up your daughter better. She seems to be taking on some less than desirable characteristics associating with people such as these," I motion to the bodies around us.

Hearing Sylph's comment, my eyebrows furrow and my face clouds over. These are the traitors among us, I fume. I knew I should not have trusted him. He orchestrated my demise. Fellons, the whole lot of them.

Still stormy-headed, I check Mr. Moke's vital signs.

"Already live a life of non-violence, if that wasn't obvious. I may not fight literally for Ulric's cause, but I am willing to die for it...plus me and Reg go way back. We haven't been a gang for some time, monk. Things are changing, faster than you might think."

Little Red rolls her eyes at Pretzel's lecturing and glances at Nessa.

"Where did you dig up that old fossil?"

Do we have to leave them alive as a group? I kept the Reds alive for the purpose of giving those who want it reputation.

"We're weakened, I'll give you that, but without numbers on your side you can't expect to finish the job, monk."

"Numbers are nothing if speed is against them."

"Supporting criminals is in itself criminal. Do you promise to give up your criminal life of supporting those who tyrannize the helpless or not?" I demand.

"I don't care about whatever goals the Wolfgang want to achieve,or any other noble goal that you might have. I'm willing to let you go but if any Wolfgang member gets in my way on a quest, or anything else I might be doing I won't hesitate in dealing a death blow.

"What would you know about speed, you creeky, arthritic old bastard?"

"You miss my point. We're not criminals. Heck, the only reason we take money from the gnomes is because we're sitting out here guarding the sewers anyway. You'd do the same. It's not like we hurt the little buggers. Most of the time," he adds, glancing at Moke, who Pretzel can tell is starting to come to.

I suddenly feel very alone.

The druid and the elf won't stand for what's right, the vampire has no love for goodness and rightness, and Erik is too soft-hearted to do what's necessary when the time calls for it, I sit down and pass the time digging. What is the point of being a member of an upright organization when that organization's members are far from upright?

"What would you know about speed, you creeky, arthritic old bastard?"

"How did it feel to succumb to the blows of one whom you call 'creaky and arthritic'?"

"You expect us to believe that they just offered you the gold?!?"

"Reasonable enough to me. I'll be happy to kill any hero who gets in the way of my guys, too. But you might want to think about it, vampire. Ulric's building a world that'll be good for everyone - your kind included."

Reg looks around, helping up Big Red. Gontzo stuffs his hat back on with his stubby arms.

8742461955_92f090d0b8_t.jpg

"Alright, I'll make sure your sympathies to the cause are noted. We're out of here. Gotta recruit some more muscle....maybe someone with a little more brains this time," he glares at Feldorin's corpse. "Tell Moke he's off the hook. And monk, for the future...you might wanna think about just how bad we are compared to some of your employers. I can promise you we're fighting for a goal greater than at least most of them."

Goldjaw leads the surviving Sewer Wolves out of the tunnel opposite the party and Zylstra. Moke mumbles and sits up, rubbing the side of his head.

I turn to the others.

"Are these really the kind of people you want to be associated with? Do you think they would have spared us if we had lost to them. Hell, no! They would've left us for dead and swooped on the gnome village, destroying it all," I growl out bitterly.

"Maybe some bastard heroes who align themselves with your organization offer their services to any who will hire, but some of us are still honourable and respectable. Maybe before you complain of corruption, you should think about who is spreading it out. It's easy for someone to present a solution to a problem they themselves knowingly created, perhaps you should think about that before you go back and continue your wolf-worship."

"Wh-What happened? Where's Reg, and the s-s-slug...?"

"They are defeated and gone, hopefully forever. You are in good hands, friend. Your village is liberated."

I see if Mr. Moke is in need of healing.

I'm assuming Erik can sign up for Wolfgang rep if Myrddyn wants it for him?

You all get Wolfgang rep. Like I said, group decision.

"To be clear." Stated Sylph. "I have no intent to associate with any of them. I do, however, appreciate the opportunity to acquire power, by influence, or more direct means. One cannot change the world without dirtying one's hands... Just as one cannot foster a seed without first removing weeds." The druid commented cryptically. "We have removed but a hair of this weed yet, friend, but mark my words... Weeds such as they have no place in this world and they will get what they deserve." Sylph paused. "But not today. Not for all of them." He nudged Feladorin's head with his boot. A dark snicker could be heard reverberating within Sylph's helmet... or was it a lament? Regardless, it sounded more upset then haughty.

"But you might want to think about it, vampire. Ulric's building a world that'll be good for everyone - your kind included."

Dreyrugr smirked as they left. He was used to being detested for whom he was and it didn't really bother him. He didn't care if a world was made suitable for vampires or not. His goals were very different, although if a world was made for vampires perhaps his goal would be easier to reach.

"They are defeated and gone, hopefully forever. You are in good hands, friend. Your village is liberated."

"And on that note who wants some loot. I'd like to keep the sword but all other loot is fair game." Dreyrugr gives Erik back Voltedge and his armor whilst putting his own armor and gloves back on whilst equipping the Muckraker.

"Thanks. I'm fine with the rest of the loot being distributed later, and on that note, I'll throw this 30 gold in the pile to be distributed."

Don't think I should have gotten gold from Gontzo, as he isn't humanoid, which would make it 20 gold.

Erik was glad nothing lethal had happened to his enemies, especially the Reds. Feldorin was dead, sure, but he hadn't really seemed to have had much of a life to begin with. Still sad, though contributing to one persons death was no worse than he'd done before.

"Back to the gnome settlement now, then?"

"Tell me, Monk, what would make us better if we acted the same as the Wolfgangs? Just killing people because their understanding of the world or their actions are different from your way of life seems like the way of the the Wolfgang.

Today we changed the life of several people and also we changed the world a little bit. When time is right our actions decide on which side we are, not what we think or believe.

Right or wrong is hard to tell if you only see your own side. But I guess it makes no sense to discuss this right now.

But let me tell you, Monk, mercy will change the world - not murder."

Moke doesn't seem to be in any harm, minus the bruise on his head.

"Oh, g-great! Never, they're never coming back? Th-This is excellent news...finally, we may be able to make enough t f-finish renovating the town....I'll g-go tell the Baron, right now!"

The little gnome grabs the chest and starts tugging it back to Zylstra. Will the party follow him?

Oh, I thought it was just the decision of whether we let them go or not. I hope this Wolfgang rep won't prevent me from getting on Town Watch quests. :sceptic:

"The longer we delay in rooting out what we can, the longer it has time to strengthen its roots and prepare its defenses. I see what you are saying, but ensure that your delay in taking action does not become a failure to take action at all. Perhaps the 'dirtying of our hands' is the killing of them. I can understand letting the Reds go, and possibly even their snotty commander, but the slug. Seriously, what good can he do to anyone. I swear that this is not the last we heard from this bunch. At least a few of them will be back to bite the hand of mercy we offered them."

"Tell me, Monk, what would make us better if we acted the same as the Wolfgangs? Just killing people because their understanding of the world or their actions are different from your way of life seems like the way of the the Wolfgang.

"The difference between us and the Wolfgang is that they are preying on the weak and helpless while we are protecting them. We are doing right, they are doing wrong. They have no desire, as they have clearly stated numerous times, to change their ways, so we do let them live to terrorize other communities? It is pointless to have heroes if heroes don't solve problems but merely relocate the problem to a different place, where the heroes will still have to go back to again. The only peoples whose lives had been changed are those of the gnomes, perhaps the Reds as well, but that is yet to be seen. If people are unwilling to change and remain permanently stuck in their ways of murder, plunder, and whatever other fellonies, then there is no point in hoping that they will change. Perhaps if they redoctrinated that is one thing, but letting them go off, is no way to redoctrinate them."

I turn as Mr. Moke gets up and heads back down the sewer.

"Just give me a moment..."

I use my Magnificent Microscope to scan the area for any missed loot, and then Dig with my Shovel.

CMP, the correct amount is 20, I assume? :look:

"The last thing we have when the night falls is the hope of the new day's light. There is always hope and it shall never be lost. So not having hope for these poor souls is quite the same as terrorizing people - you don't give them the chance to change. Every life has the right to live. And who are we to decide what is right and what is wrong. This is not our role in this game of life. We only act in the way our conscience tells us to. But ai think our opinions on that matter are clearly different and we won't find a conclusion. But I really hope for the sake of your soul that you will see this once, Pretzel."

"Everyone has their own conscience and the freedom to choose their actions. These people are making it their business to remove others' freedom to do so. Such a crime must be punished. If you want to give them mercy and a second chance, send them to prison and let them prove through their labour for others, that they are worthy of their second chance. How many people's first chance have they removed, I wonder. They have as long as they worked in the Wolfgang to change their ways. As they themselves said, though, they have no intention of changing their ways, why can you not see that?"

Ignoring the argument Dreyrugr follows the gnome to Zylstra.

With a gesture of his hand, Sylph does likewise. "Well said, Monk. But it's not always the case that whatever doesn't kill a man makes it stronger. We spared them, but they are weak, and I will only grow stronger. They were simply more of a benefit alive than dead. What better way to destroy a weed than by infesting its roots with rot? How better to defeat an organization than from within?"

Yes but do remember I have to pay you a large amount of gold by about the end of the quest.

"Ok, Pretzel... whatever." Nessa said as she realized that there is no point in arguing with Pretzel. She smiled friendly and turned away to follow Mr. Moke.

I shrug. Perhaps I should have poisoned my blade, I muse thoughtfully.

Maybe if I run you into debt you'll be forced to give me the Muckraker in payment. :devil_laugh:

Gold aside, that is a real offer though. :look:

I hand Sylph, Nessa, and Erik a Mulled Wine (still can't decide whether Pretzel drinks or not, I'm kind of thinking yes, but...) each and store the 50 Gold and the extra 30 from Erik in the party's treasury (in my possession) for safekeeping.
