herrJJ Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I hand Sylph, Nessa, and Erik a Mulled Wine (still can't decide whether Pretzel drinks or not, I'm kind of thinking yes, but...) each and store the 50 Gold and the extra 30 from Erik in the party's treasury (in my possession) for safekeeping. "Thank you, Pretzel. This will come in handy when the time has come."
CMP Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 Yeah, sorry, it's only 20 gold as Pala pointed out. I use my Magnificent Microscope to scan the area for any missed loot, and then Dig with my Shovel. Pretzel scopes out the area with the Magnificent Magniscope. He spots two small pieces of treasure in a golden dish, probably another of Moke's payments. Silver Ore - Worth 60 gold. Gold Chalice - Worth 100 gold. The party heads back to Zylstra victorious as Moke drags along the chest. Soon enough, the reach the small gnomish settlement, and the banker at once heads into the Baron's office. "Ah...you're back." The Baron eyes the chest Moke pushes back into place. It's clear he has a (probably accurate) suspicion as to what's inside. "Care to tell me where you went, and what happened?"
herrJJ Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 (edited) 'What a strange man, this Pretzel', Nessa thought. 'On the one hand he is ignorant to the world surrounding him on the other he is passionate for being a hero.' She was surprised at herself. Those thoughts were new, so philosophical. It was strange but also liberating though she did not know why. Suddenly it was revealed to her. All those people telling her she was obsessed by demons, all those black-outs. They were gone. And now she was free... free at last. Edited August 7, 2013 by herrJJ
Palathadric Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Pretzel scopes out the area with the Magnificent Magniscope. He spots two small pieces of treasure in a golden dish, probably another of Moke's payments. Silver Ore - Worth 60 gold. Gold Chalice - Worth 100 gold. I furtively glance around to see if the rest of the party are still in the vicinity and can see the treasure, if they have already walked away, I use my Magnificent Magniscope to check. "Care to tell me where you went, and what happened?" "I would love to Monsieur le Baron, but in all honesty, Mr. Moke is the only one who knows the true story from its beginning, so perhaps he had better explain himself. Perhaps when he's done we will fill in any gaps that we can in the parts that Mr. Moke cannot relate."
Vash the Stampede Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Maybe if I run you into debt you'll be forced to give me the Muckraker in payment. Gold aside, that is a real offer though. Considering how many times wp is multiplied in my shield skill a weapon higher than 6 would really be of use to me. Dreyrugr stands at the back waiting for someone else to speak.
Palathadric Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Good point. I'll look for another weapon for you with high WP.
CMP Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 I furtively glance around to see if the rest of the party are still in the vicinity and can see the treasure, if they have already walked away, I use my Magnificent Magniscope to check. What? Do you really think you can get away with stealing items from your party? "I would love to Monsieur le Baron, but in all honesty, Mr. Moke is the only one who knows the true story from its beginning, so perhaps he had better explain himself. Perhaps when he's done we will fill in any gaps that we can in the parts that Mr. Moke cannot relate." The Baron glares at Moke, who looks down at the ground. He then shakes his head, looking back up at the party. "The details can wait. I assume you've solved the problem? Permanently?"
Palathadric Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 What? Do you really think you can get away with stealing items from your party? Well, technically it's not stealing since if it weren't for Pretzel those items would have gone to waste. Besides, it just sounded like something he'd do. "The details can wait. I assume you've solved the problem? Permanently?" "Not a problem. I can get down to brass tacks quickly enough, I think. Perhaps Mr. Moke here, can correct me if I'm wrong. I am sure you will find, as we have found that he is not guilty of an crime whatsoever, but was only doing what he thought was best for your community. You see, there was a threat from the outside, a gang who were threatening your peaceful habitation, so instead of letting a conflict ensue, Mr. Moke paid them off. Thankfully, we used our influence to intimidate them and took down a few of their members while at it. You will not be getting trouble from their gang in the near future. That's the short of it, if you want more, do not fail to ask...one more thing...actually, may I request to speak to you privately about something?"
Myrddyn Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Erik adresses the Baron. "Maybe we could give you directions to our hall, in case you need similar help in the future?"

Erik adresses the Baron. "Maybe we could give you directions to our hall, in case you need similar help in the future?" "I'm not risking the lives of my citizens to get pleas of help to the surface world. We'll be fine down here, on our own." "Now that you've upheld your end of the bargain...Moke. Out. We'll talk about this later" The gnome nods his head and scrambles outside. The Baron watches him go, then turns to the heroes. "When you are ready to see Posco, go tell Vinum that the Bluebird is needed. He'll take you to him. You'd best not be lying to me. And if you are, well, then it's probably because you're here to kill him, in which case you're getting a punishment anyway..." Edited August 8, 2013 by CallMePie
herrJJ Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 "Thank you, Baron. Your help is very appreciated. And as heroes I promise you we will stand to our word. We will try anything to avoid more bloodshed but only time will proof us right." OOC: yeah, and now I know again what our task was Forgot it in the last 50 pages
Dannylonglegs Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 "Yes, let's go find Vinum now." Stated Sylph.
Myrddyn Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 "Thanks, Baron." "Talking to Vinum now sounds good."
CMP Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 The party heads to the bar. Pala, if you still want to talk with the Baron in private do it in PM and assume you did it earlier here. Rollo the digger is still downing goblets of watered-down ale. Vinum watches the heroes intently from under bushy eyebrows, but remains quiet.
Palathadric Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 "Ahh, that's a lovely shield! I'll give you ninety gold for it, fifteen for the glass." CMP, just realized that I should have 55 gold, because I sold the Magnifying glass to Shelby for 15 gold.
Palathadric Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) "Ah, Vinum. I have to say that I may be interested in that Neutralizer of yours, if you still have it, but gold doesn't stretch as far as it used to. For now, though, the Bluebird is needed." I don't know why I keep double-posting so much this quest. Sometimes the editor doesn't work for me, but I'll certainly endeavour to use it more. "After all our running around, I would like to take a nap right around now," I mutter to the party. I guess sleeping in our bedrolls is not an option, is it? Edited August 9, 2013 by Palathadric
CMP Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) I guess sleeping in our bedrolls is not an option, is it? You could rent rooms, I suppose. "Ah, Vinum. I have to say that I may be interested in that Neutralizer of yours, if you still have it, but gold doesn't stretch as far as it used to. For now, though, the Bluebird is needed." The dwarven bartender turns, his back to the party, then looks back at them, sliding a small iron key across the counter with a glance at Rollo. "Top floor," he mumbles through his beard, tilting his head to the right, towards the spiral stairs that've been carved into the inside of the mushroom. Edited August 9, 2013 by CallMePie
herrJJ Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 "Thank you, Mr. Bartender." Nessa said smiling as she took the key and headed upstairs.
CMP Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 "Thank you, Mr. Bartender." Nessa said smiling as she took the key and headed upstairs. Nessa leads the way upstairs. There's a circular hall on each floor surrounding a single room, each one progressively smaller as the heroes ascend the mushroom, and at the top, the stairs end right at a doorway. No sooner had the elven ranger opened the door than a flash of steel crossed her eyes - in less than a second, an aged, gruff-looking halfling had a long dagger to her throat. "You've found me. Congratulations. Do I have to kill you now, or are you going to delay the end of your life by a handful of seconds with some half-spun excuse as to why you're here and who you're working for?"
herrJJ Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 (edited) "Wait!" *cough* "We are not here to kill you. We gave our word as heroes of Heroica. There has been enough blood for one day." Nessa said. It was not strong, though. The tone of her voice was like begging for her life. "See, we were hired to solve a case of murder and to bring justice to those who died and killed. Just let me free, lay down your weapons of mass destruction and follow us to the town watch. At least you are outnumbered so there is no chance for you to get away." She even did not dare to blink. Dannylonglegs Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 "Ahem." Grunted Sylph, irritably. "No. We don't come to kill you, but we're not going to take you to the watch either. We just need your help in solving a murder we suspect was committed by a member of the Blue Assassins. Can you help us?" Sylph demanded. "If we wanted to kill you we'd have done so already, Padfoot."

"Heroica. There's a name I've not heard in quite some time. Always getting into trouble. Often in the way of contracts. Doesn't surprise me you're looking for a victim of one of the Blue Assassins, but it does surprise me that you've managed to track me down. As far as laying down my arms and coming with you willingly to the fools claiming to guard the hellhole above us.....I think you know the answer to that one, girl." "Ahem." Grunted Sylph, irritably. If you're looking a Blue Assassin and ended up here, it's obviously because you lack the skills or clues needed to track down an active one, leaving me skeptical that you possess the abilities to kill one. That said..." Posco removes the weapon from Nessa's throat, but doesn't seem to even consider lowering them. "...I'll humor you. One question is all you must answer. Why should I bother helping you?"
herrJJ Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Nessa catched her breath as she got free. She had definetly too much near-death-experiences in the last hours. "Well, sorry for the Town-Watch thing. I just had to say something to give us some time." *phew*

"Because you're a generous person with a heart of gold and you just want to help people?" Sarcastically guessed Sylph. "Oh, maybe not. Maybe it's because you hate the Blue assassins and would enjoy knowing they're suffering/inconvenienced so long as it can't be traced back to you?"
