Steam Engineer Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Hello all *y* Well after saying i'd post some pics of my ship ive finally got round to getting them uploaded to brickshelf in order to let you see how i'm getting on, its still very work in progress so bare with me & i'll get some more up to date pics posted as i progress... However heres my gallery on how ive got so far... It looks like you've got a nice start happening: Thumbnail is link to bigger picture May I recommend that you resize a few pictures (like the one above) to about 800 x 600 so you can post them in the thread? See the Perform a batch image resize Tutorial if you're unsure how to do this quickly. This isn't compulsory but threads with pictures can attract more attention you see and we want you to get lots of attention!!! If you want it that is. Quote

A terrible accident may occur if those barrels were full of gun powder! :-D Quote

Well, with the ship not being very wide (12 studs) the prefab cannons could be a little to big, however when i rebuild the hull using sloped pieces i may put some of the prefab cannons below top deck & use the custom ones for the top deck... I'm also thinking about making the ship wider (4 studs) & possibly longer so at this stage its hard to say how many cannons the ship will have exactly :-/ Mister Phes, Are you going to add sails to these masts? This is a very nice start, but as a steam engineer, I would think this ship would be... uh... steam powered... Sounds like it will only be sail powered... is that a fact? Also, the small LEGO® prefabbed hulls or only 12 wide, but that hasn't stopped people from arming them to the teeth! Number of guns, however, shouldn't be the primary concern as speed can be a great weapon in and of itself! just do what seems to fit right! Quote

Well, I must say, that if you want a historically accurate ship, the sails should be plain white. Cause even the craziest pirate wouldn't have sails like this. It would be the same like shouting "hey soldiers I'm a pirate! Come and hang me!".... Although, some pirates did have plain red or plain black sails... Quote

Isla Tortuga LoL X-D Nick That's almost exactly how my masts are on the Dame du Loup. Only i have black tecknic beams instead of yellow. :) It was the only way i could figure out how to have my masts 4.5 feet tall. As for the mast placement, try moving the Main(rear)mast backward some 4-6 studs and maybe move the Foremast forward 2 studs. P Quote

I agree with Evil Pirate Phred, the further back you can make the main mast the better. Get it as close to the cabin with out getting in the way as you can, and I think he is right, about the mast up front too. Move it up a little bit so you have plenty of room for a sail plan for the masts, and enough space to place your evil, Piratical guns! We don't see many color sails up in here... so I think it wouldn't be half bad to go with a solid color for them! Quote
