I'm working with another gentleman on nailing down this issue. I believe I know what it is, just waiting to hear back from him on the test fix.

if you PM me your IP, I can check with my web host. I got locked out of my own website for about a day when I was setting it up. :sceptic: I might need to switch hosting companies. I don't know of any that offer $2.50/month plans, though.

Just posted version 0.92. Here's the link: https://docs.google....X3otZ3hiT2FjN2c

Changes in 0.92:

  • New toolbar
  • The progress bar is now more granular when calculating.
  • Fixed another bug in importing wanted lists (oops).
  • Fixed a bug with displaying (or lack thereof) millions of matches checked.
  • Matches in excess of the "Matches per combination" setting are pruned to save memory. Some very large lists were running out of memory before finishing calculation.
  • Can now change status (by double clicking), condition (by double clicking), quantity, price, comments, and remarks. Also, deleting a line properly deletes the item. Stay tuned for more list creation and modification options.
  • Items with status "x" will not be included in calculation.
  • There is a button/menu item that will allow you to view the current/previous report. While calculating this will show any calculation levels that have completed, but not the current level.
  • Added more error checking and debug info
  • Calculation can now be cancelled at any time. The report will reflect any matches found at the current level.
  • Names of stores for any given country are now cached between calculations (in addition to cached price guide pages that I failed to mention last release)
  • Removed option to save bsx from the import window (don't worry, you can still file -> save as once it's imported)
  • You can now double click a wanted list name in the import window to import it.
  • Fixed a bug that would crash calculation if there were less items than the store combination you were searching for. You can now find a good combination of stores to buy 10,000 of a single piece from.
  • Backend stuff nobody cares about.

Hi Mdoupe,

I started following Brickficiency from reddit and finally downloaded 0.92. This is the first time I am using brickficiency and I have encountered a strange problem. So when I click on "View Report", the default browser (tried both Firefox and IE) pops open and gives the "Parts list sorted by number of stores" but does not show the stores. Hopefully you can help me out. Thanks!

$2.50 a month!?!? That's a steal!

I pay $5 a month for my server and I find it a very good price. Two domains are included (worth around $20 a year).

IP has been sent to you.

When you ran the calculation, did it say that it found some matches?

I'm not sure it's worth it if people randomly get blocked. :)

Well I discovered something for those having issues with the program quitting with an error that it couldn't read the part file. There is a part of my brain that knew numbers were represented by "5,8" instead of "5.8" in other regions, but I assumed C# would just go ahead and convert "5.8" to "5,8" when operating on a french language OS. I was wrong. I will have to figure out a way to convert "5.8" to a decimal variable regardless of region. It might take a few days though, as I'm a bit busy at work.

I want to note that the error I submitted earlier in the topic (about the report with wrong prices) still exists. Although the price is correct now, it misses a "," or a "."

Hi and thanks for looking into this problem!

do you have any other wanted lists besides the default "Main" wanted list? If not, try creating one. It doesn't have to have any parts in it, just needs to exist. I found that bricklink returns wanted lists differently if you don't have any lists besides "Main".

I installed the latest version, launched it, it downloaded the parts catalogs from Bricklink, and then it gave an error saying it could not open the parts list file.

I get the same error whenever I try to launch the program :sceptic:

I've posted a new test version that I think should fix the problems launching the program, and possibly the problem where the price guide pages aren't being read properly. Check it out here: https://docs.google.com/uc?export=download&id=0B6HH_wCQ4odGLTFKT0NrcnlTWTA and let me know if it works.

Also, sorry for the long silence. I've been away on work for the last week.

It worked for me using a fairly small wanted list and restricting the search to USA stores.

it did indeed fix it. i created a second wanted list other than just my main one and it gave me a list of all, main, and the second one i created. when i selected 'all' it loaded both my main and the other list.

i was a bit curious tho. i'm not sure how it's getting it's prices but sometimes even with the 'cheapest' combination it's WAY too expensive. it appears that it doesn't take into account the price of the part. for instance i was looking for the partout of a 7$ set and if i were to buy the parts by looking at just the prices it would run me about 15$ for the parts (plus shipping) but it's cheapest was almost 90$! when i looked through some of the parts it found, they were way over priced...i did however only do 4 searches but man o man....

I should clarify, it only searches the cheapest matches for the number of stores you're searching. IE. if all of the pieces on your list are available from exactly 1 store, but that store has ridiculous prices, it'll tell you about that 1 store and then quit happily. that's why I added the option to keep searching higher numbers of stores -- if you're not happy with the 1 store solution, it'll go on and check 2 stores, and 3 stores.

Out of curiosity, which set are you referring to, so I can test it out myself? I'll never rule out the possibility that Brickficiency is broken. ;)

aww man, it's been a few days since i did that search and i don't remember which one it was. i'll be sure to keep an eye out for some crazy behavior and definitely let you know. as i said, i had only done 4 combinations so i'll be sure to try more than that if i get some crazy results before i flag it. :)

I am glad you left the option to continue searching after the match was found. I needed a few more pieces to finish a moc. Just 18 pieces. Easy right? There was only 1 store that had all of it but the total came to $9 before shipping. 2 stores option had combined total of $2 before shipping. Guess which I bought from? 2 store choice (after checking their splash page for lot limits, fees, etc, had to disregard the first 2-stores solution as they had $20 minimum buy). The grand total with shipping is $7 combined, less than one store solution.

Note: I was still using 91 when I got this error:

Another issue, and this one can be blamed on BL and not the program. Some European stores add VAT to part price and some don't so this can screw the result. For me in USA, any item that comes up with VAT included already, I need to manually calculate estimated difference (usually 19% off). Slows me a bit and I may miss cheaper deal because Brickficiency doesn't have a way to tell if the store includes VAT or not and can't account for that.

and for people in Europe, some of the cheapest result may not include VAT so buyer beware...

I got it to start running a search with the test version - .91 & .92 kept having the unhandled exception error for me.

It doesn't seeem to like searching for boat anchors though, I had to take that part out to get the search to run??

Sorry, it does it with other parts also:

Available from 205 stores

Getting Price Guide information for Black Plate 6 x 10

Available from 196 stores

Getting Price Guide information for Black Plate 6 x 14

Available from 237 stores

Getting Price Guide information for (Not Applicable) Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Horizontal (thick open O clip)

Error: (Not Applicable) Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Horizontal (thick open O clip):Either this is not available from any stores you've selected or you need to log in.

Some items were unavailable. Calculation cancelled.

I am logged in to Bricklink??

Ok, it seems to be something to do with the color - for some reason Brickficiency is loading up certain parts with a non applicable color. I have saved a .bsx file and manually gone through it to make sure every part has a color and then saved a copy but Brickficiency still opens it with non applicable colors?

Edit, sorry, worked that out I also had to change the color ID numbers. Does anyone know the colour ID number for dark blue/earth blue?

It now seems to load all images and is running with a 2.600 piece wanted list - it is very strange that the colors don't import/export properly, however.

And, after running this for a while:

Getting Price Guide information for Dark Bluish Gray Door 1 x 4 x 6 Barred with Stud Handle

Error downloading price guide (got page, but there was nothing on it)

Some items were unavailable. Calculation cancelled.

Shouldn't the program interrorgate the stores, regardless of there being nothing on the price guide? - or is there a way to make it continue the calculation, even when it can't find a price guide for a given part?

Finally have it running away - I had to cut out any parts that were in less than 20 stores. But it has been running for more then half a day:

Is this normal?

WHOA! I don't know if it's normal but I wonder how long did it take for you to go through 1384 million possibilities. I usually gave up much sooner and try to figure out a way to "help" the application by pinpointing the "problem" (usually some rare parts).

Oh you just said, more than half a day...whoa, that is a lot of patience on your part.

For really large want list, I'd run Brickficiency and do just 1+2 store combination. Odds are it'd get 0 result and display list of parts you needed. The list are conveniently sorted by fewest stores first so if you took a few of the rarer parts and moved it to a second want list (label it rarer parts or something), then run it. Limit to 4 stores at first. Hopefully with fewer rare parts the program can hit something worthwhile by 4 stores.

5 stores can take too long on large wanted list. Do this only if your wanted list fails to come up with 4 stores or better combination, and do it at night just before you go to bed. Disable auto-sleep just in case.

There is an unfortunate balancing act with Brickficiency... Too many rare parts and you will not find any matches. Too few rare parts and it takes FOREVER. As an upside, you can cancel it at any point (by clicking the dollar sign with the red dot on it) and it will list the cheapest matches it's found so far. I'm sure there must have been some decent matches somewhere in that 1.3 billion. :)

Someone else was working on a similar program with a vastly different approach. Instead of iterating through every combination of stores, it would "tunnel" through stores adding them to the current combination (if valid) until it hit the depth you specify (ie. if you're willing to buy from 10 different stores, you set the "depth" to 10). Once it hit the maximum depth, it would either pass and save or fail and discard that match and then move on to another. I'm not sure how well it worked, as I never had a chance to use it and when I tried that approach, I failed miserably. :)

Ok, it seems to be something to do with the color - for some reason Brickficiency is loading up certain parts with a non applicable color. I have saved a .bsx file and manually gone through it to make sure every part has a color and then saved a copy but Brickficiency still opens it with non applicable colors?

I'm still working out some kinks in importing wanted lists. Unfortunately, I'm also working on a pretty large build for a show, so I haven't been spending much time coding.

Shouldn't the program interrorgate the stores, regardless of there being nothing on the price guide? - or is there a way to make it continue the calculation, even when it can't find a price guide for a given part?

The price guide is where Brickficiency gets all of it's information about which stores a part is available from. If the part is not available from any stores, there are no stores to interrogate.

The part "Dark Bluish Gray Door 1 x 4 x 6 Barred with Stud Handle" has never been made by lego: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=60621

Thanks mdoupe,

I do appreciate the program - I appreciate any help in trying to sort out the pieces for a very large MOC.

I did work out about the door after I posted it, sorry. There are some things that LDD manager accept that aren't on Brickling and some things on Bricklink that aren't on LDD manager, I've been designing in LDD taking LDD Manager and Bricklink into account but certain parts will always be oddities I guess - I changed the door to pearl dark gray to be sure.

Anyways, Brickficiency is still going on the same wanted list, I left it overnight - it's up to 2462 millions of combinations now It didn't find a match on 4 stores, it can't with this wanted list. I don't want to stop it because I wan't it to spit out something,

Is there a way for me to set in the options that I wan't a return on the store that has most of the pieces on my wanted list, for the best price? Top 5 by number of parts and price, rather than trying to fill the entire order.
