niteangel Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Wonderful review! Seriously, I am not that into the Star Wars (only got 6 planes so far since the first set was released), but this one just caught my eyes. I was like...holy, I must get this, when I saw the first online image. Now, the more I look at your review, the more I think I will get this. The ship is truly amazing probably because it is quite detailed and quite accurate to the original. Like you said, it has the SW feel to it. Okay, I am done. I am heading to the store (but the owner said the set would only come in two weeks; I am from Hong Kong)... Thanks! Beautiful pictures too! Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Thanks 'Lego-Freak' for this review.....now it might be this set that sways the tiger to TOR sets, the minifigs are cool and that ship is fantastic. Brick On Review On 'Lego-Freak' ! Quote
becauseBATMAN Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 awesome review and details, much appreciated. It seems like Lego puts alot more effort in star wars figures when it comes to printing. The detail level is insane!! Quote
Borex Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Thanks for the review! This set is on my wanted-list. Nice figs, and a beauty of a ship too. Good work Lego! Quote
miles teg Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Nice review. Ive only been collecting sw lego for a few months (after buying them for my son for a couple of years, i got the bug !) Im only buying OT sets for myself (its an age thing!) But seeing these TOR sets next to each other, i think its time to expand the perimeters of my collection. They look sweeeet....and in my eyes, a lot more star-warsy than a lot of the CW and EU era stuff. Quote
Infernum Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Wow. Lego is doing a fabulous job on TOR. . I've never played but the set looks amazing, well designed and the figs are great! Quote
miles teg Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I. Must. Have. Jedi Consular and Sith awarrior ! Quote
Csacsa234 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Million thanks for the review and for the excellent pictures! This is the only set from the summer line that interests me. I'am collecting TOR sets and this gonna be no exception. So beautiful with many good pieces and the highlight of this set is no doubt the sith marauder The Old Republic empire has some veeeery nice figs on their side Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks for the review! I'm not familiar with the 'real' ship nor am I a fan of the game, but I can't deny that this model is a very solid-looking build. (By which I of course mean the aesthetics, not the durability.) Color scheme looks great, TLG continues to impress with all the new colors of minifigs and their accessories, and while I feel the hull is a little flat on top, it's always good to see TLG integrating more of the studlessness and the curved slopes into the shaping of their sets. The Legonater Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Like Doc, I'm not familiar with TOR, but that Zabrak really reminds me of Bao-Dur from KotOR. It's a beautiful set, but with Orthanc and some of the other sets, I'm not really that interested in it. Quote
Zacherano Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Thanks so much for an absolutely phenomenal review, Lego-Freak! I cannot thank you enough. Of all the summer SW sets, I think that I have been most looking forward to this one. I am an avid SW fan, and I am familiar with the era in which TOR takes place, as well as the game itself. I play the game occasionally, but only for the plentiful story elements. Allow me to provide a few clarifications: Satele Shan's master, Kao Cen Darach, is not a Jedi Master concurrently with Shan. Darach was murdered by the Sith years before the timeline of TOR begins. The experience fueled Shan's creative and virtuous energies in order to become the spectacular Jedi and living legend that she is as the time of TOR. She is considered to be the Grand Jedi Master by this point, I believe - much like Yoda in the prequel trilogy. The Defender itself is the in-game ship of the Jedi characters. As a Jedi Consular, this is the ship that awaits me in the hangar. I think that Jedi Knights also use this ship, but don't quote me on that. In the game, the ship houses a variety of companion characters that might inhabit the open parts of the model, like the pods on either side. In the center of the ship there is a holo terminal, which seems to have some sort of replica here. The ship also features a hyperdrive, which does appear to be represented in this model. Again, thank you so much! I certainly hope to buy this model and add it to my TOR and SW Lego collections. For those who are dubious about the price of #9500, note that it has been available on Amazon for some months at about $71 USD. I can't speak to other countries' currencies, but I imagine that it is discounted on Amazon in other places as well. #9497 is also discounted to about $35 USD (so you receive $10 off on the smaller one and $19 off on the larger one). HJR-Holland Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Thanks for the review; would you by any chance have some pictures of the parts overview at the end of the catalogue? Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted June 8, 2013 Author Posted June 8, 2013 @HJR: Of course, here you go: Quote
Knightsword Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) When looking at the ship from above with the top facing up. The left pod houses the cargo bay. The right pod houses crew quarters on the top level and the med bay on the bottom level of the ship. The light saber "windows" are not windows on the ship, its the shield generators. The actual windows are the yellow tiles in the center. Anyway with some minor moding to close up the back bits of the "bridge" its rather good appoximation of the ingame model. Great review and I can't get wait to get this set as I've been playing SWTOR since Beta as a Jedi Sentinal. (and yes I have lego version of my character too, ready to go. ) Edited June 8, 2013 by Knightsword Quote
fatfrog2596 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Thanks for the early review! Loving the set in general, especially the fantastic minifigures, too bad I'm saving up for the Ewok Playset. Might end up Bricklinking the figures. Looking forward to more reviews from you! Quote
Studebricker Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Wow, nice! I don't know anything about the game, but this looks like a cool ship and figures. Definite buy for me... Quote
IronFish Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I have a custom lego Jedi knight and padawan waiting to call this ship home :P Quote
Phamish Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Is this set a store exclusive? and will it be available in Australia (for fellow AFOLs downunder). I found it on S@H, but it's listed as "Not for sale in your region" and some previews mentioned it might be a Toys R Us exclusive set. It looks like an awesome set and really looking forward to pairing it with the Fury. I played quite a bit of SWTOR, and I had both the Fury and the Defender in game :) Quote
Elrond Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Thanks for the review. That's a nice set but it's really overpriced atm (around 130€). I think I'll probably just try to get the Sith Warrior and Jedi Knight loose on BL. Quote
punkkid364 Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I picked this one up at my brand store this morning. At first I was disappointed it wasn't on the shelf, but I asked an employee and he brought one out of the back for me. It was a good build with great figs. This review sold me on it. Great job. Quote
Captain Settle Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Great looking set, and fantastic review! I find it ridiculous that this is more expensive in the UK than in USA. Quote
khatmorg Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Great looking set, and fantastic review! I find it ridiculous that this is more expensive in the UK than in USA. Isn't every set more expensive outside the US? =P Edited August 3, 2013 by khatmorg Quote
Captain Settle Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) Isn't every set more expensive outside the US? =P Well because of the currency conversion, yes, but this one especially because its $89.99 and in the UK it's £99.99. Edited August 3, 2013 by Captain Settle Quote
Kikimaru Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I keep looking for the review of 75018, and Google sends me to this thread -- was it removed? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I keep looking for the review of 75018, and Google sends me to this thread -- was it removed? I don't believe there was ever a review of 75018 here, but that set is mentioned in the review, so that might be what Google is picking up. Quote
