I buy SW sets almost exclusively for the minifigs, being not so much into spaceships.

Saying that, there are some sets where I've also enjoyed the diorama effect the sets create in conjucntion with the minfigs (eg Battle of Endor, some of the Hoth sets, Jabba's Palace etc).

Another one would be Droid Escape- no one cares about the pod, they just want C-3P0 and R2-D2 and the sandtroopers.

I actually do want it for the pod parts (albeit not necessarily the build so much as those parts). I do want the minifigures too - to an extent, anyway, but I'd actually want them much more if they hadn't changed the trooper prints.

Is it just me, or is Lego releasing more and more sets that focuses on the minifigures? One example is the Corporate Alliance Tank Droid- no one really wants the actual set, they buy it for the minifigures. Another one would be Droid Escape- no one cares about the pod, they just want C-3P0 and R2-D2 and the sandtroopers. Personally, I want better sets, not just the usual obscure set with 4 minfigures. DAE agree with me?

I must disagree. I loved both the pod, and I'm a big fan the Tank Droid. The figures only make it better.

I must admit alot of sets I buy are for minifigures such as the headhunter, mandolorins speeder.

But I think it could be a sales teqnique for people to want to buy sets. The droid escape though I really wanted for the pod, and the speeder looked good as well.

Focusing on minifigures is an excellent move on TLC's part. By putting new and exclusive minifigures in re-released sets like Jabba's Sail Barge and Republic Gunship it makes people want to buy the set even if they have the previous versions. If they just had standard minifigures that you can get in cheap sets, people who had the previous versions would have no incentive to get the new one.
