Luke_likes_Lego Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I don't really follow your argument... It would be like EBay putting up ads to Amazon. Why would anyone (generally) allow advertising for a competitor? It's not a sensible point. Anyway .... we both agree that it's nice that Bricklink hasn't gone down a heavy advertising path...so let's hope it stays that way. Cheers, LLL Quote
Grimmbeard Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 EDIT: @Grimmbeard: Their FB page says that all transactions were backed up prior to moovin between the datacentres so everything should be okay. Thanks, man. Quote
timmyc1983 Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 It sounds like this guy is "one of us", so hopefully he'll have similar thoughts to what we all do. And I agree with most of the sentiments, a facelift would be nice (although I quite enjoy the simple/clear icons used for each section) and some bug fixes would be nice too, but now I used to most of the features of the site, I hope they don't change too much... We will soon see I guess........ Quote

BL generates income via transactions, not simply traffic or page views. There is not a lot of benefit for them to start hosting banner ads. At best they gain a pittance revenue stream for completely unrelated ads (ooo! Pills to enlarge you! Just what the AFOL needs) and at worst you are getting ads for competition (Lego.com, eBay, amazon, etc) I can't see banner ads fitting well with the sites business model. Now I can see them pushing out an extensive banner ad campaign themselves. Nexxon is noted for that. Quote
SheepEater Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) I'm not sure what to think yet about this news, but for what it's worth, I hope they 1) Fix all the bugs. This site is obsolete and has been for a long time. 2) ADVERTISE the site on google and other places. I'm not talking about banners IN the site. I'm talking about Bricklink banners everywhere else among the online lego fan community! Whenever I talk to people in toy stores they have NEVER heard of bricklink. When I do google searches for "old lego" bricklink doesn't even show up in the results. Bricklink STILL doesn't have a wikipedia page. It's only way to know about it is STILL via word of mouth! BrickG Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 As long as they don't charge more I don't care much what they do. The design could only get better (I wouldn't expect it to soon though), ads don't bother me, blablabla. If it ends up sucking a replacement will eventually come. Quote

The BL charges are between BL and the sellers, correct? (I've never sold anything on BL so I am unsure how they get added on or calculated). The larger or more permanent BL stores may not have an issue with BL costing a few points more per transaction, if that is compensated by vastly increased visibility and advertising. We'll see how it all shakes out. Quote
LEGO Historian Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Bricklink charges store owners a flat 3% fee for sales (unlike Ebay... it doesn't include shipping)... and at the beginning of the new month an invoice is sent to store owners with the amount owing from the previous month. Quote
