Posted June 10, 201311 yr Hello. Since this is my first topic as a Eurobricks Knight, I decided to do a set review. What set, though? 79106 Cavalry Builder Set Theme: The Lone Ranger Pieces: 69 Minifigs: 4 Price: $12.99US Year: 2013 First off, let's look at the box. On the front we have a scene of the soldiers fighting the Lone Ranger. On the back, we see all the features. Plus, we see the Lone Ranger stealing some turkey. Jerk. Opening the box, we get two polybags, a folded instruction booklet, and Silver, the Lone Ranger's horse. Random page from instructions: The *blurry* assorted pieces: We get lots of brown in this set, plus some new weapons, as you will see below. Parts of Interest Here are the two new revolvers included in this set, compared with an older one. I have to say, the newer ones look much more realistic, and the older one looks more like a kid's toy. Wait a second... Here we see Silver alongside an older horse. Unlike an older horse, the newer horses are able to be positioned, and are more realistic. Hats: new meets old. Even if you're nostalgic for the older hats, you can agree that the newer hat is more realistic. The Minifigs Here is the star of the set, John Reid. Also known as the "Lone Ranger." He wears a long black jacket, waistcoat, star badge, black mask and red neckerchief; he carries two silver-colored revolvers. The back of the Lone Ranger's jacket is slightly wrinkled and has two buttons. Up next are the three new Union Soldiers, or "Navarro Riflemen" according to Brickipedia. They all have the same torsos, legs, and hats; but they have different faces. Number 1 has the generic smug face, Number 2 is Indiana Jones, and Number 3's face is new. His very expression says, "Don't fudge with me!" Number 1 and 2 wear back packs and carry rifles, and appear to be regular joes, but Number 3 has a shoulder bag, dark revolver, and spyglass, and looks more like their NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer). Back printing for the Navarro Riflemen has gold designs and black creases, with a belt and ammunition pouch in the back. The build: The first part of the build is a small campfire. On top of the fire is a frying pan and a turkey leg. Apparently, these soldiers get some pretty good grub. The second part is a cannon. The cannon is your typical firing cannon in charcoal metallic, with a swab attached on the side. The ammo is neatly stacked on a tan 2x2 plate. The final part of the build is the barricade. The barricade is hinged and has the Navarro Riflemen's regiment colors positioned on the side. The back is pretty plain, but there is room for the riflemen to stand or take cover and fire. It's also a great place to position the cannon. Well, that's the whole set. And now for the final scores. Design: 7/10 Build: 7/10 Playability: 8/10 Minifigures: 10/10 Price: 9/10 Overall: 8.2/10 Conclusion: This set is a nice little addition to the up-and-coming Lone Ranger theme. One can collect a whole bunch of these sets and create a large army, not to mention a good collection of masked men. American Civil War buffs would like the new Union torsos, and it's a great way to add to your Wild West collection. I hope that you have enjoyed this review; if you want to see more reviews from me, don't expect much. I have a limited amount of money, and can't buy LEGO sets every few days, only once or twice a year. Please rate and comment! Hi-Ho Silver! Awa-ay! Always entertaining, always inspiring, always:
June 12, 201311 yr Very good review, efullner I like the Riflemen, and am pleased that there was a cannon included. I think the cannon would work well on the Lord of the Rings pirate ship ambush set, alongside the riflemen. I think you could take the flag off and use the barricade with the castle sets Or you could just keep it the way it is!
June 12, 201311 yr Plus, we see the Lone Ranger stealing some turkey. Jerk. Hahahaha! Nice review. I like the way you compared the new parts and old. Edited June 12, 201311 yr by commodore_legolas
