edsmith0075 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hey everyone, Over the weekend I built and tweaked out a turn table using the directions from the Cuuso Page. I by no means take credit for this amazing projects original design. I did however expand on the directions and built this table to accomidate up to 8 wide trains which means the table supports the Emerald night with no problems. I also wanted to utilize an extra PF motor and PF battery box I had laying around. While the orignal designers gear setup was excellent, it did not support the wider trains clearance because they would end up hitting the walls of the building that hid the gears. I also ran into an issue with the gap between rails and table. I was able to resolve this with two half pieces of flex track and an additional pice of flex track placed on either side of the tables ends. This eliminates the gap and allows for smooth transfers. Even my Emerald night was able to trasition over this section with no problem, previosy it would derail. I will post pics as soon as I can, I didn't get a chance to take any before work this morning. I am grateful to the original designer of this project for posting the LDD files and give credit to this person for the amazing design! http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/33485 Quote

edsmith0075 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 So here are updated pics I took this morning. Feedback is always welcome. Keep in mind this is just the basics of the project. I have to add the details and hide the PF gearing setup still. I also want to remove the painted lines on the base plate. I tried goop off to remove them but it did not work. Hey Joe Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Hey! That is really impressive. Thanks for sharing. Joe Quote

legoman666 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Don't forget to share what method you use to remove the paint from the road plates ;) I'm planning on making one of these too. Quote
edsmith0075 Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Great reminder.... I already tried goop off with no avail. So I will be swinging by a hardware store to pick up some paint stripper and will keep everyone posted :-) Quote
ronenson Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Looks really impressive. I'd love to have a setup like that, especially if you're going to add a roundhouse to it. Edited June 20, 2013 by ronenson Quote
edsmith0075 Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 The roundhouse will be next. Right now though, I have way too many legos unorganized that need to be sorted before I get into another project. Quote
JopieK Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 nice design, also very flat, that is convenient though not very realistic. Quote
splatman Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Paint stripper might dissolve the plastic. Of course, that depends on the type of stripper you use. Brasso has always been the stuff to use to make printed LEGO pieces printless. Or try fine sandpaper. 500 grit or higher. Or even 1000 grit. Tape pieces of sandpaper to some bricks, attach said bricks to your rotating platform, right on the lines, and rotate it a few times. That way, you'll sand off the lines, and only the lines. Then use Brasso to polish the "ex-lines". Before sanding, sprinkle some water on the baseplates to keep friction from generating heat, which will cause the dust to melt and clog the sandpaper. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Fantastic work! I think this could be a perfect lego set! (Only one note: the length of the movable section it's a little bit short for some of my locomotives) Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 That is really nice and using those corner road plates is a really good idea for keeping it nice and low. Quote
English Electric Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 You could try the solvent type nail polish remover, that may well shift the printed details on the road boards Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Dont use nail polish remover on lego. It will damage the plastic. Quote
danim Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 acetone free nail polish remover does not damage the plastic but you have to make sure it is acetone free Quote
Sir E Fullner Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 It looks so good that I just want to whistle at it. However, I can't whistle... Quote
Kivi Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 This is a nice and challenging design. I like that you managed to keep it as low as possible. I am also currently building a working turntable but I put the driving mechanism under the track to have a better weight distribution and that made it much taller. Good luck with the roundhouse too. edsmith0075 Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Thank you all for the kind words, But to be fair my build was based mostly on someone elses design who was kind enough to share the building instructions with everyone. I took his design and tweaked it to my liking. The gearing and housing I came up with on my own for this design because I needed to widen the platform to accomidate the EN and wider trains. The second part I wanted to add was.... BRASSO! This stuff works perfect for lego paint removal! I picked up a small bottle from Home Depot for like 1.99 and tested it real quick this morning before leaving for work. It worked like a charm with no visible damage to the plastic itself! Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Where did you get that instructions? Great work! Quote
Gioppa Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 only one question: how you can stop in line with other rail? Quote
