Lady Marsh's free hits/Docken's counterstikes added. Guts' damage dealing fixed (I ignored level from the calculations randomly). Now we forge ahead. Round Six Marsh Battle Docken v. Scubacarrot Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 (edited) Guts curses as Lady Marsh jumps in front of his blade when he is about to finish off Marsh. Her eyes turn dull as she falls to the ground, her face quickly turning grey, her belly open and bleeding. In the corner of his eyes, he sees Nyx blasting Marsh to pieces. He did not come up here to do a less than perfect job. This was not supposed to happen. There must be something he could do. Then, the raider remembered. The trinket around his neck. The same as the ring he pulled from a dragon's nest. Supposed to turn back time briefly, to have a different outcome. No idea if it worked, but the time travelling business certainly did. Time to start praying to Pseudos, Mercutio and all the rest. For a trinket to do it's job. Guts places his hand on his necklace, and activates it's power. Scubacarrot Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 (edited) The raider grins as he looks at his handiwork. A dead Marsh. Calmly, he takes out a rag from one of his pockets, and wipes off the blood from his weapon. Slinging the weapon his back, he looks at his companions. That was right, he was the people person of the group... He clear his throat, and starts talking. "Lord Marsh tried to have your good friend Gerald Guffington killed tonight. Through poisoning, or other means. The 'Chef' Clippard, is actually Poisoner Clippard, and if you inspect his body, you will find a vial with a poison that is probably clear, tasteless and very expensive. If you don't mind, I want it. Not only that, Lord Marsh hired a second assassin. A Blue Assassin, I believe, in the form of the server, I did not catch his name. The silly looking one with the wings. This to ensure the flamboyant Clippard wouldn't talk, and to act as a back up. Blue Assassins have more morals than your average street-poisoner. Or so they'd say. Now if you open the doors to the kitchen, you'll find an angry, dangerous woman. Avery I believe she's called. A red assassin hired to kill Clippard, the Blue Assassin and Lord Marsh. I think she was hired by Lady Marsh. Why, you might ask? Because Lord Marsh was the lowest form of life I have ever met, he plotted to have someone who considered him a friend killed for a sum of gold, and used some sort of potion to control Lady Marsh's mind. I don't want to guess if that potion is a recent thing, for all we know, Lady Marsh never went with Lord Marsh out of free will... Anyway, that are the facts. Any questions?" JimBee Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Hybros quickly hands each party member (excluding Felix) 312 gold, keeping the extra 1 gold for himself. He nodded any smiled as he did so to Nyx, but turned his eyes away from Guts. He wasn't able to kill either of the foes, but admired his new Cloak all the same. Perhaps if Heroica could no longer advance his interests, he would join the Red Assassins. For now, though, posing as one would do. He then turned to the crowd forming at the door. He resisted the urge to say "Hero business, go back to your drinks" before Guts started to speak. Why Guts felt the need to explain to the crowd rather than referring them to the heroes' employer was beyond Hybros, but then, he wasn't an expert on diplomacy. Instead, he nodded a simple "well done" to his allies, then tended to Lady Marsh. He tugged at her blouse to try to wake her up, using a Potion if necessary. Quote
Zepher Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 The party goers murmur among themselves. Reactions to the revelation seem... mixed. Finally one figure pushes forward from the crowd. "Are we to believe you, heroes? Pah! How can we know that any of this is true. For all we know, you were hired by someone to kill Marsh and the others, and offer this to us as a loose excuse! Don't think the Hinckwells have forgotten what happens when you become involved! The murder of Brobric Elves, the riots in Brendenton!" "What they say is true, Hinckwell," Lady Felix says loosely, watching carefully where each hero puts the money she was stiffed. "Trust a Hinckwell to suspect dishonesty. Takes one to know one," says Shawe with a dismissive shrug. "Why, you...!" "The heroes and I have uncovered quite a few interesting conspiracies, its true." "And who are you to tell us... hmmmmm, Doctor? What have you uncovered, hmmmmm?" Things look likely to come to head when a commanding voice rings out. "Do not disrespect these heroes," says Guffington. His guests grow quiet. "When people gather, they always bring their shadows." He lets the strange statement hang in the air brief. "Lord Marsh was mortal, much like many of you. Is it truly hard to believe that he had other motives upon attending my party. Don't we all? It is a fact we live with. Friendships are built on necessity - sometimes they flourish into more, sometimes they wither and die in the face of something else. Marsh fell for gold, but could we not also fall for knowledge, for hatred, for love. Each mortal has their hierarchy of needs." Guffington looks down at Marsh's body. "And when they die, their needs, wants, desires, their hopes and dreams and fears, they end. They leave only their shadows." Guffington punctuates his speech with a shrug. "The evening is over. Leave as you like. Heroes - hear this. I will have no more killing this evening." The party goers grumble briefly under their breath. Madame Ladybug brushes by the heroes first, bowing respectfully to Guts and then stepping out the front door. A irritated Henry Hinckwell follows. Lord Shawe and Lord Chauncey both step back into the Dining Hall, each eyeing the heroes thoughtfully. "Zora, be so kind as to go release the Red Assassin. She is to leave without being harmed. Elba, go collect U'Or. I owe both you and him an explanation and apology. Daneeka, assist Hybros with reviving the poor woman. We need to have a few words with her... and tell her what has happened." Guffington leads the heroes into the Dining Hall. He and Everstien watch them. Lady Felix unlocks the door to the kitchen and bravely steps in, murmuring a word or two. "I believe we should exchange tales now, heroes. What do you think of the evening?" Quote
Scubacarrot Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Guts takes off the amulet, and tosses it to Everstien. "Next time you will be clear in what it you want us to do. No time travelling, dream walking or whatever, before you have told us. Also, your parties are the worst. Now, if there's nothing else...?" Quote
Pandora Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Nxy smiles back at Hybros, and raises an eyebrow at his new attire. She whispers to him: "Nice getup you have there Hybros, I like the red, it matches your eyes nicely. " When Guffington addresses them, she turns to him to make an initial remark. "Sir, your parties are more eventful than they first seem; there's so much backbiting and side-dealing that happens. I prefer to go to parties to have fun, really, but I seem to be shockingly sober at the end of this evening, and I've not danced at all. I would suggest you get some music for your next party, always lightens the mood, maybe a nice band, but I'd avoid any blonde starlets if I were you." she pauses "Frankly, though, I'm just glad you're alive. You're a nice man, it seems, and well, you did hire us after all. Oh, and sorry about the door, but it's kinda pretty; you could always just call it an art installation. " Quote
JimBee Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 "Eheh, thank you Nyx..." Hybros looked to the floor for a moment, then touched his hat at Guffington. "It is always... eventful when we become your employees, heheh. Less death next time, maybe.... heh. And maybe it is better if you did not know how the first tries, through time travel, went." He turned to Daneeka. "Should we bring her to her room?" Quote
Zepher Posted September 10, 2013 Author Posted September 10, 2013 Lady Felix walks by with Avery as the heroes speak. The Red Assassin has a sly smile upon her lips as she passes by. "I'm always thankful when my work is done for me," she tells the heroes. She then turns her eyes on Hybros. "Little Imp, should you require further instruction, come to find us. The Red Assassins work together and alone. It may appeal to you more than this life of heroes." And with that, she is gone, stepping past the destroyed door and out of their lives. Daneeka passes through the door a few moments later, hauling Lady Marsh. U'Or and Elba follow him in. "Perhaps I won't invite you to the next party," says Guffington to Guts, but his stern smile remains on his face. "But yes, if everyone would be so kind as to return their Amulets to Lady Felix... there is a museum in Dastan we owe them to. Now, an explanation. I'm sure you're all tired, but I'm equally sure you'd all like to understand what has happened here. You have heard that our dear friend and business partner, Lord Hughes, was recently found dead, aka, to my mind, murdered. Lord Hughes and I were engaged in a business venture along with Lord Chauncey, a pet project of all of our's from a distant age - the research of the Old Gods. By using myself as bait as the next target, I could potentially lure in the killers, and confirm the reason for his death." Guffington shrugs. "It worked in half, at least. Captain Elba, U'Or, I must apologize for keeping you out of the loop. It was not that I suspected you. The fewer who knew, the less chance of my schemes being uncovered." "And we have yet to discover the killers - though I have not given up hope. Lady Marsh, did your husband have dealings with anyone who may have hired him to facilitate Guffington's death?" The frightened and haggard Lady Marsh looks up, but her eyes look... almost hopeful, and much clearer than they have previously. "Thank you, heroes," she gasps up. "I knew for a long time that my husband had some how bonded me to him... I do not know how long it went on... but I was desperate for escape." She shudders, and Elba and Daneeka support her. "I... I heard talk before we left. Found a note... said something... I didn't read it, I was too scared, but it was signed by the Bearer of the Golden Light. I... it didn't look like a normal shipping contract. That's all I know." "Thank you." Guffington waves the faun server, almost forgotten, over from the corner of the room. "Thomas, be so kind as to take Lady Marsh upstairs." The two shuffle out of the room. Guffington shakes his head. "I suppose that is it, heroes. A new day, a new foe. Such is life, I suppose. I heard a saying once, heroes. Its either funny, or its tragic." Guffington reaches into his pocket and pulls out a few shards of this and that. "Your payment. Thank you, again, heroes." Guffington hands Hybros 400 gold, 3 Mytril Shards, and 1 Adamantite Shard, to divide in any way he sees fit. "Maybe we'll meet again in merrier times." Guffington bows slightly and sweeps by the heroes. The quest is successful! Shawe, Lord Chauncey, Everstien and Lady Felix still mill around the room, along with all of Guffington's staff. The heroes may speak to them, or return to the Hall. (There are minor bonuses/story clear ups if you speak to them, but if you want to head out, I won't blame yah! Final stats will be posted when you divide the loot.) Quote

A bit surprised to see the Red Assassin's kindness and offer for him after his trickery, all Hybros could do was nod before she passed by. It was certainly not a bad contingency plan. Upon hearing Guffington's request, Hybros begrudgingly snapped the Eye of the Beholder amulet from his neck and tossed it Lady Felix. He would be happy to never see the Selkreeth again, for reasons undisclosed to his allies. "Thank you, heroes," she gasps up. "I knew for a long time that my husband had some how bonded me to him... "That does not sound familiar, but... on my very first quest with Heroica, we found some crates of bottles holding some sort of... essence. They could be linked to this shipping contract, the Hinckwells, Ziegfrieds, and Shadeaux are the ones to talk to about that, heheh..." "Thank you." Guffington waves the faun server, almost forgotten, over from the corner of the room. "Thomas, be so kind as to take Lady Marsh upstairs." The two shuffle out of the room. Guffington shakes his head. He tipped his hat one last time to Guffington, slightly displeased at a lack of closure on... many things in the quest. "You know where to find us." The questions swam around his head as he walked over to Daneeka, for one last order of business. "Ehem, excuse me, ehm... this may be a bad time, but I was wondering if I could speak to you in private?" He nodded to Nyx, Docken and Guts, intending to meet them back at the Hall. Quote
