Posted June 11, 201311 yr Similar to the new Battle at the Black Gate set, I purchased two Council of Elrond sets with the mindset of combining them together to create a more dignified display piece. This is what I've come up with so far. I plan to continue to build upon this piece by adding the Rivendell hall that houses the Shards of Narsil (the blade that cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand in the First Age.) I suppose that means I'll have to cut up one of the Lego hero swords. The task of making the mural of Isildur battling Sauron will be another task altogether. I'd also like to add more trees with those amazing orange leaves; I may have to purchase yet another Council set. So far, this has been my favorite set to design (or rather build upon from the original set.) With the Fellowship of the Ring being one of my all-time favorite movies, this scene is firmly implanted in my mind and to recreate with Lego bricks was an absolute blast. (Disclaimer: I know Thorin Oakenshield was not at the Council of Elrond - he just wanted to be in my initial test shots of this display piece!)
June 11, 201311 yr Nice job. I like how the other 3 hobbits are hiding behind the columns. Boromir seems to be sitting next to many dwarves... Maybe swap Thorin for anohter human? Edited June 11, 201311 yr by MathBuilder
June 11, 201311 yr Nice MOD! I love those orange and olive leaves. They work so well together. Rivendell is beautiful in LEGO form. Way to go TLG. Are you making extra random elves with Arwen's hairpiece or are you selling them off to help spend more on other sets? I hadn't considered buying extras this wave, but this would be the set to do it with.
June 11, 201311 yr Author I am planning on selling my duplicate minifigures on eBay in order to get $$$ for more Lego sets! But my biggest problem right now is not having enough space to display all the sets I own.
June 11, 201311 yr This is a great caption of the movie scene, well done! Apart from the minifigs, did you use any parts not included in the two sets?
June 11, 201311 yr Author Yes, I did have to use a few additional grey platform pieces to make up the length of the display. For the most part; however, this is from just two regular sets.
June 12, 201311 yr Great creation from the 2 sets with minimal parts added. Way to go!!!! How did you put the short sword onto Thorin's back?
June 12, 201311 yr Author When you put capes on minifigs, there is still a small slit that you can holster a bladed weapon into; just slide it in and it looks like a scabbard on the back.
June 13, 201311 yr Great idea! It's amazing how much more 'complete' the scene looks with just two of the sets.
June 16, 201311 yr Awesome! I bought one Council here at retail just because ($75, oh joy), but I ordered another two without the minifigs for exactly that purpose. I plan to build something similar with two, and have another section for the Narsil scene. For the mural, I'm thinking a screenshot of the game could do the trick...
June 16, 201311 yr Nice job, Karlson! TLG's sets, while often great, are not as substantial as the subject matter warrants. Your doubling up of the Council of Elrond set elegantly illustrates that. The way you have done it makes the scene complete. By the way, if you would like to seat your dwarves and if you're not a purist, you may like to know that BrickFortress produces articulated short legs.

I never thought of taking a screenshot for the mural; great idea. Let me know how it turns out if you do so. This makes me think we need an Old Bilbo figure. Yes, I would really like an official Old Bilbo minifig (my ideal version would be a double-sided face with one normal and the other with his evil, transfixed gaze when he tries to seize the ring from Frodo.) Nice job, Karlson! TLG's sets, while often great, are not as substantial as the subject matter warrants. Your doubling up of the Council of Elrond set elegantly illustrates that. I'm not sure if you noticed or not, but in order to get my dwarves "seated" at the council I had to remove their legs entirely! I didn't know that there were articulated short legs available, so I'll definitely have a look into that.
June 23, 201311 yr AAAAAAAAAAAGH! Look at Gandalf's cape it's so crumpled!!!!! Mmmmmmm lovely leaf combinations. Oh, we badly needed and old Bilbo in this set...
June 23, 201311 yr Author To be fair, Gandalf is a roaming wizard that does as he pleases. His cape should have a crumpled appearance for strong authenticity.
