PlaneCrazy Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Just picked up a 8461 Williams F1 racer for a price I am happy with given condition (no stickers, no box). Unfortunatly the owner thought they were doing a good thing and cleaned the tatty stickers off (oh well). Just wondering if anyone knows of a good source for either original or after market decals for this set. I am just not prepared to pay near on $100+ USD for a decal sheet. Not overly fussed if I have them or not, but it would be nice for completeness. Any help would be appreciated. Jamie Quote
CisFran Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 You can read from here...Though I think no one had attempted yet to successfully print/laser cut the 8461 stickers http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=44011&hl=%20sticker%20%208461&st=0 Quote
Cwetqo Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I had them profesionaly printed and cutted (frind, who owns promotions company did me a favor), but It was not ok. Scanned picture is just too bad, lines between are blurred and colour is very off. Colur could be fixed by trying, but for real sharpnese we would need better scan or even vector image. Quote
CisFran Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Check the page 1 of the link that I posted above. Dluders posted a link for a high resolution scan of 8461 sticker sheet. Once you successfully reproduced it, it will be nice to share it with us Quote
Meatman Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 There is someone selling replica sheets on Ebay. You have to cut them though. Quote
aqaz Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Producing stickers is not that difficult if you have the correct resources.... But, of course, the resources are often the problem. How I do it: Samsung CLP300 laser printer, I have had this about 5 years, no dearer than a good inkjet and the toner lasts for a very long time. Laser Printer Sticker Film, from ebay, a seller called 'madabout'. I have; clear, white and silver. About £6 for 5 A4 sheets. High Definition Images. I went for 600dpi after some experimentation. It is easy to compile your stickers to print in MS Word because you have accurate measurements for the images on the toolbar. So you can make exact fits for lego tiles etc with custom images, I expect it would be easier if the stickers a copies of a lego set because these will already be the correct size. Print and cut out with a craft knife. If you look at the pictures: In this topic or at brickshelf you can judge for yourself, pay particular attention to the Renault badges and the instrument panel. I would guess that the whole lot cost no more than £5 to produce.... (And quite a lot of time... But... it was a fun challenge.) Quote
Blakbird Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I got as far as making a high quality vector image of the whole sticker sheet. Anyone with access to a good vinyl printer is welcome to use it. Quote
DLuders Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Blakbird (Eric Albrecht) was very kind to e-mail me the Lego 8461 Williams F1 Racer sticker set vector file that he mentioned above. He is allowing me to post this on SkyDrive, with these words of wisdom: "The source file was created in Canvas and will only open in that proprietary software, but the PDF is also vector. If someone makes stickers out of this file, I'd appreciate a copy of the sticker sheet in exchange for providing the file." Lego 8461 Sticker Set.cvx file Lego 8461 Sticker Set.pdf file Quote

Sorry, I didn't make any sticker files for that set. Although those stickers are also degrading over time so I can imagine needing to make some eventually. Quote
Cwetqo Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Blackbird thanx. I will contact my friend and we will try to match colour as best as possible. If result will be ok, I will send one to you too. Quote

grum64 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Good Morning I hope all's well with you all. I asked a local vehicle graphics design company if they could reproduce the 8461 sticker sheet and they agreed to have a go. They've produced a sample for me to take a look at which should be with me in the next few days. I'll let you know how they are when I get them. During the initial set up they think they came across a problem with the dimentions of the scanned sheet in the files kindly provided by Blackbird and DLuders but not yet having seen the sample I'm not sure if it's correct or not. Does anyone know what the exact dimentions of an original 8461 sticker sheet so I can pass them on to the company for comparison. I'd appreciate any help. Thank you. Quote
DLuders Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 @ grum64: You could save yourself a lot of trouble by just getting this replacement sticker set from another UK bloke. Quote
grum64 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 (edited) Hi DLuders Hope you're well. Thank you for your reply and the link. I bought a sheet of these a while back but as good as they were, decided against using them as the colour reproduction wasn't as good as I thought I'd be. Also, I didn't like the idea of them having to be cut out. The idea of asking the local company to have a go was to see if a solution could be found to the colour reproduction, cutting out and soaking in water. If the sample's colours are OK & they can get the size right the stickers once printed will be colour fast and made from vinyl so will not deteriorare over time. They'll be die cut so each can just be peeled off the backing and affixed. Obviously there's no gurantees but it'll be interesting to see if it can be done and if so at what cost. I'll let you know how things go. Thanks again for your reply. Edited July 3, 2013 by grum64 Quote

Robert_88 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Did some of you buy the duplicate stickers? Are they good? Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) I need some as well, the ones on my 8461 are getting quite bad. By the way, it's definitely one of the most gorgeous Technic models TLC have ever released. Edited October 20, 2013 by jantjeuh Quote
grum64 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Hello Everyone As many of you will know I had this problem and have been trying to get it addressed by having a local vehicle graphics company make up a set. Progress hasn't been as quick as I, and no doubt many of you, would've have liked mainly due to the company's workload but also colour and size matching. Also, the guy who's working on this is something of a perfectionist and as he's doing it in his spare time it's taking a while. Personally I think the results so far have been quite promising but I've not got an original set of stickers to compare the colour/size with. When I get his next set for approval I could send a couple out to those with an original set to see what you think. Thank you for your patience. Quote
jantjeuh Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Sounds interesting, thanks for keeping us updated! Quote
Robert_88 Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Thanks! Maybe I will contact an ebay member who bought the duplicate stickers. I'll keep you updated! Quote
grum64 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Hello Everyone I hope you are all well and that you had a GREAT Christmas. Sorry I've been so long bringing this update on the Williams F1 stickers but the vinyl graphics guys doing it have been flat out in the run up to and over the Christmas period. I've now though received the proofs back from them and have to admit that I'm quite impressed. These are basically the 'proof of concept' set to show that they can do them. I received a huge A1 sized sheet with one giant sized set all 'cut' & ready to peel off which I suppose is to show they could do it and one set that are approximately the right size that are not 'cut'. Probably to stop me using them and then never hearing from me again! I have now though a couple of questions that I hope one of you kind folks might be able to help me with. 1. What is the official Lego name for the colour of the blue pieces used in this set? 2. Is the colour blue used for the original Lego sticker set the same blue as the blue pieces of the car? 3. If the answer to no.2 is yes then can anyone tell me the CMYK/RGB/PANTONE colour code for this blue? If no does anyone know the CMYK/RGB/PANTONE codes for the blue used on the stickers? 4. Has anyone bought a set of the decals being sold on eBay and if so are they the correct size and are the colours accurate? I only as these questions as the set of 'stickers' I bought for my car (though never applied) were actually decals from eBay and the copy I sent the vinyl guys was a hi resolution one downloaded from the internet. In both cases I don't know how faithful they are to the original (I thought they looked a little pale but that might just be me), obviously I want the final print to be as close as possible both in size and colour to the original and if the decals are accurate the guys can use my sheet to get the correct size & colour. Once I have the final copy I think it'd be a good idea if someone out there with an original set could check them for me. If anyone lucky enough to have a genuine unused set would be interested in this please contact me. I hope this makes sense. I would like to wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR. May it be a year of good health, laughter and love. Edited December 27, 2013 by grum64 Quote
OzBen Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Hey Grum, I have a set of the eBay ones on mine and the colours are very good. The silver cannot be printed though so it is a very close grey colour. The size of them is perfect. Quote
