I'd suggest waiting until you have an idea and have started building your first build. But of course we all hope to see you join soon! And you are never forced to build anything more than you want/have time to, so you can join anytime you want!

PS: All the cool kids join Avalonia!

Um, all the 'cool' kids definitely join Mitgardia :look:

That isn't true, cause the last time I checked all the cool kids were in Avalonia

Hehe, I see Mitgardia and Avalonia sure want people to join them...

(I don't think my building skills are up to standards though. :sceptic: )

And somehow I think I have more bricks that would be fitting Kaliphlin...

Though choice...

No, we're just the coolest guilds (what doesn't mean you aren't welcome). And choose whatever guild you like, don't worry about your building skills: GoH is about improving Them (and having fun)

Don't worry about building standards. Everyone had to start somewhere, and not everyone is capable of producing front page material.

Kaliphlin surely wants more people to join us too! We just won't make up stuff about being the cool kids since we are just the ordinary uncool kids.

You the ordinary uncool, we the ordinary cool kids.. Everything well divided

Obviously Nocturnus is the coolest guild; we've got enchanted pumpkin pie!

I'd grant you to be the hottest guild, not the other one though!

The hottest, most trendy guild.

Greetings! I have already joined the most excellent Guild of Nocturnus, yet I still have questions that I've not been able to find the answers to, even after reading this whole thread.

1. When we create a build and a backstory, can we try to "humiliate" the other guilds? For example, could I show my thief getting the better of an Avilonian merchant, as long as it's not a major character in their guild?

2. On the same note, it seems that members of other guilds are joining in on the Nocturnus thread, for the purpose of friendly joking(or so it seems). Is that what is happening and is it encouraged (as long as it's light-hearted)?

3. Which exact challenges are currently active? A lot of these threads seem to have started in 2011 or earlier and then end in 2013 or 2014, and I want to help my guild earn as many points as possible, but my head is spinning.

I look forward to and appreciate any valid answers to these questions. Thank you. HAIL NOCTURNUS!!

1) This should be fine. There are builds that have done something like this. Last year there was a back and forth succession of builds that depicted a minor rivalry between Mitgardia and Kaliphlin that lead to the Naval Mini-challenge.

2) Guild thread ribbing is okay, as long as it is tangentially topical to the discussion and avoids personal attacks. Being abusive to members can get you banned.

3) Book 2 Challenge IV has just concluded. The prelude to the next challenge will depend on the Guild Leaders' timetable. The next challenge will be in Nocturnus.

gedren's answers are great but I just wanted to add that freebuilds should earn your guild points too - though the amount is nothing spectacular, I've been told.

Thanx Count gedren_y!

Your welcome. And I also appreciate the use of my exact screename.

Kai is right about freebuilds, but quality builds with clean photography are always appreciated. The points system holds less guild competitive importance than it did in the beginning. There used to be a regular running tally, but since the GOH popularity explosion, even a monthly accounting is a monumental task. I don't envy the people running GOH their task of sorting out this past challenge, given the volume of builds it generated.

I was wondering if they ever start the points at zero again, sort of like Hogwart's?

I'd say start building before even wondering about collecting points! Having fun building, displaying and improving in this community is what matters most

  • 2 months later...

Why is it we are constantly loosing all the female members of GoH? (except for kai of course)

We need to have more chocolates to lure them in. Or we could asked Kai what keeps her interested

It's the expectation that you might have to join Mitgardia, and thus grow a beard!

They can always pick some daffodils in Avalonia!

Indeed they can, so who is now the most girl-attracting guild?

I think Kaliphlin had the most.

@Kabel, Yeah. We had three. Whoohoo! (Not at the same time really, though.)

I think it might have something to do with it being less "cool" for a girl/lady to be interested in LEGO as opposed to a boy/man; it probably comes across as more weird and thus is easier to drop. And it's also probably harder for a FFOL to get as "addicted" [caveat: I don't like that word, but nothing else seems to fit here!] in the first place (though, I didn't seem to have any trouble  ).

What keeps me interested in GoH?

Um...

er...

hmm.

That's a good question! I'm seriously having a lot of trouble trying to pinpoint a reason. I guess I'm just a stick-to-it sort of person, and of course, I like it. And anything that offers prizes catches me (though serves me right, I never do win in GoH! - and of course, prizes aren't always offered anyways).

Kaliphlin also had (we seem, sadly, to have lost it a bit last challenge, but hopefully it will be back!) a strong team feeling with a sort of permanent inner core that kept everything together... though perhaps that permanent core isn't so permanent after all. However, having that did help to keep me (and probably others) interested, I think.

So basically, if you want my opinion, I don't think the loosing FFOLs syndrome is GoH's fault (though, to be sure, the last challenge may have contributed slightly. In one way, it was a tremendous success, but in another way, it seems like we're still recuperating from the burn out!). I think it's more that it's just plain harder for a FFOL to find time and will to be part of the FOL community - not the broader community, there seem to be quite a few FFOLs there, but the select Medieval MOCing community.

I don't really think that there's a quick fix solution. But I do think that things that will attract more members from the ranks of those who aren't already Medieval MOCers will also attract (though in proportionately smaller numbers) FFOLs as well. Speaking of which, it does seem to me like we could maybe use some new blood!

Well, that's my two cents.

Thanks for your insight Kai!

The thing is that today is was wondering whatever happened to all those cool ladies that used to build here. All had a very unique style that was great to look at. Actually we had three to in Mitgardia too and I kinda miss all these great mocers.
