Mac and the heroes get to work setting up the camp and shortly after the sun goes down the majority of the party heads off to sleep.

Quest2Pic5.jpg

Sorrow and Romulus stand guard over the camp, keeping an eye out for any intruders or dangers that may present themselves during the night. They are watching some of the coals in the fire dance when a gust of wind blows out the flames for a moment. In the darkness they can hear the stomping of hooves, when just as suddenly as the fire had gone out it was lit once again.

Quest2Pic6.jpg

Standing in front of them, illuminated by the flames, stood a large group of horses. The heroes looked around for any sign of the men who owned these creatures, but they could not see any other humanoids nearby. The large black horse in the center of the group, lifted his head and said quite loudly

Knowing that the party was lacking anyone still attuned to nature, Thormanil laid out his last rations, two pieces of chicken and a biscuit, in front of the horses as an offering.

The black stallion stomped his foot once with an exuberance that seemed like the horse was quite furious.

<"MY MASTER!! I, sir, am a free horse! I have liberated myself from the chains of oppression and have helped others of my brethren do the same! I have already laid out the charges against you, and your entire defense has relied upon bribery and condescending behavior! If you wish to protect yourself against these accusations, I would highly recommend altering your strategy.">

"Ah! I apologize, sir. We were unable to understand you before, so we gave you an offering of goodwill to show we mean no harm. What are the charges you have against us?"

<"Let me start from the top. I am Sir Edward Equine the first. I will be your judge this evening. You are being accused of the crime of imprisonment and slavery of a member of the noble equestrian race. What say you?">

"That horse is playing a part in the greater game of survival. Helping us, its chance of getting murdered by wolves or another beast is low. It is one of the safest horses in the free islands, and as such, serving a life of glory and safety."

Thormanil watches with intrigue as Romulus, whom he thought had forgotten how to converse with wildlife, held a solid conversation with the beasts.

"Shadows can be scary. They are always changing sizes and following me around, but if shadow gives me carrots then shadow not all bad. What is 'enslaved'?"

"Romulus, ask him if he feels like the carrot-giving shadows mistreat him. Perhaps if he is forced to haul carts when he doesn't want to."

Mizuki places a sugar cube in front of the horse and tell Romulus to tell the horse "Do you wish to work for carrots from the shadows ?"

<"Is that not what you have already done. He was meant to be free. He was not born with shackles and leg-irons. Our race did not evolve to be used as mere forms of transportation. I am here to open his eyes to the possibilities of this world, the possibilities that you have denied him until now. I grow weary of this discussion. I present the case to the jury, how do you find the defendants.">
