1974 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 sorry, but when toys are us is more expensive than at lego itself, why someone should buy lego at TRU? Because TrU is actually cheaper than lego.dk When talking about TrU please state which country you're talking about since TrU in Denmark are often cheaper than lego.dk. The 42009 is 'bout 15 euro cheaper for instance .. Quote
N-4K0 Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 Yes, Norwegian TRU are cheaper than S@H too. They sell 42009 100 KR / ~ $15 cheaper. Quote
Daniel-Technic Posted August 3, 2013 Posted August 3, 2013 On step 57 on book 4, it's best to leave out the L motor till step 63 otherwise on step 63 the 16 tooth gear will not get into the correct position cos of motor casing in the way without bending the axle. I'm having a great time building it. :-) Quote
efferman Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 indeed, building was many many hours of fun. the outriggers are a little bit slow at going down to earth, but in complete they are well designed. the hand of god, placed at the back of the undercarriage is simple, but it works good. the overall look of the undercarriage is gorgeous, but not street legal in germany . here the tire pattern has to be covered by the mudguards. the uppercarriage is beside of the ropes a total loss. the boom can only raised to 65°, real mobilecranes has 80°. next point is the efficiency of the telescopic boom. retracted it has a length of 43cm, fully moved out 66cm. sorry, but this efficiency is awfully. the boom should be mounted more to the back to get more boom length and a more realistic look. sure the LA are to short for this, but lego had could use a gear rack LA to get enough movement. conclusion: undercarriage: 8 of 10 points uppercarriage: a great parts pack Quote
paanjang16 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Build mine over the weekend. Pretty long build but slightly easier than the 8258 since it has numbered bags. All components works as intended although it is slow, especially the outriggers. Nonetheless will try it out again with fully charged batteries to see if there is any improvement. It is not easy to distinguish the grey and the black. At first I thought I had a shortage of 15 length grey beams but it turned out I had installed a grey one in the place of a black one. Also, anyone noticed the different shades of yellow on the parts? An example would be the gear selector part at the superstructure, there is a slight difference in yellow between the 5 length, 4 "L" and 11 length yellow technic beams. Quote
1974 Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Black beams are very dark grey, however parts like this .. : .. are solid black. Annoying Yellow is all over the map since TLG changed their slogan from 'Only the best is good enough' to 'Only the highest profit is good enough' (Yes, I know all about the precoloured ABS pellets versus the crap they're using now) If this was a 200USD Apple product with 50 shades of white we'd have people in the streets rioting Quote
Tech-nick Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) I too have read that TRU in Norway price Lego lower than the Lego store, opposite to USA. I'll definitely check the different stores I have visited before, before I make up my mind as to where to buy it from. Today I ordered my set from Eurotoys.fi (Finland), IMO, Price was very reasonable, 180€ including delivery. Check this out: Eurotoys Norway. Edited August 4, 2013 by Tech-nick Quote
Blakbird Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Great video Sariel! It was fun to watch. Editing in close-ups with the functions during their deployment really helped showcase those functions. What kind of tiny camera do you use for the on-board shots? Quote
Sariel Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 What kind of tiny camera do you use for the on-board shots? The HERO GoPro 3. With the housing removed, it's less than 100 grams heavy, including extra LEGO pieces to mount it. Quote
jorgeopesi Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Great video Sariel but bad crane operator... you have to remove the outriggers to lift the load... . Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 (edited) Amazing Video and stopmotion pics Sariel I use the go pro hero for the first time in 2007, in 2008 a have the first HD Go Pro's and later the second edition. i use mine Gopro's for Gokarting, diving and a lot off other diverend sports and later for lego video's How is the Go Pro 3 compares with the older one's?! . FuzzyBallz Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Great video Sariel but bad crane operator... you have to remove the outriggers to lift the load... . hahahahhah, sabriel is operating without license. Quote
750ACE Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Aren't outriggers in real life slow anyways? I can't see why outriggers would be fast when designed to stabilize. Quote
efferman Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 time is money, so outriggers in real life are not slow Quote
dhc6twinotter Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Here's a little review of my own: Great video! Thanks Sariel! Quote
Sariel Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 How is the Go Pro 3 compares with the older one's?! . I don't have the older ones, but there are surely dozens of YouTube videos that answer your question. Quote
skriblez Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Today I ordered my set from Eurotoys.fi (Finland), IMO, Price was very reasonable, 180€ including delivery. Check this out: Eurotoys Norway. Never used this page. Have you used the Fi one much? Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Aren't outriggers in real life slow anyways? I can't see why outriggers would be fast when designed to stabilize. It varies depending on the crane, most newer cranes have fast and slow controls. Some of the Hiabs I have operated have painfully slow outriggers, mainly when retracting. Quote
Tech-nick Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Never used this page. Have you used the Fi one much? This was the first time. I normally use other (even cheaper priced) webshop located in Finland but the crane is not yet avaivable there. I wanted 42009 quicker and took my chances with Eurotoys. Site claims it will be shipped today (monday). I made the order yesterday. I Hope everything goes well.. Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Aren't outriggers in real life slow anyways? I can't see why outriggers would be fast when designed to stabilize. I have seen a mobile crane working in real life, it was pretty similar speed to this model except the feet going down was much faster, also the boom extending was slower although this real crane had a 5 piece boom. Quote
Foggy Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 Great reviews and discussions on this page. Is possible to modify the set and rotate the superstructure with the L motor without adding another motor? And, a bit off topic :cry_happy: , do you think we can use these outriggers in the 8258? Asked Sariel on his fb page but he doesn't know although hasn't 8258  . Thanks Quote
Bricktrain Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I have seen a mobile crane working in real life, it was pretty similar speed to this model except the feet going down was much faster, also the boom extending was slower although this real crane had a 5 piece boom. Many larger mobiles have pin lock booms which only tele one section at a time, rather than extend simultaneously some of the Groves have one section pin lock and then 3 simultaneous. Quote
EyesOnly Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 I ordered mine from hiko.se for 1649 SEK. Can't wait to build it. If only there where some way to make booms that way in Lego-pieces. Or for that matter thinner multisection booms for models like 8258. Quote
