Hey guys - thought I'd share my Starcraft Terran Battlecruiser "Norad II" MOC - I thought I'd give the BC another try, simply because it's always been my favourite unit from the SC universe. So, here goes:

Ah yes... the "snot". Those familiar with the original SC cinematics, you may remember the angular nose of the BC as an iconic (and somewhat ominous) visual characteristic.

With my earlier efforts of rendering the BC, I tried to keep it closely familiar to the original SC version - this time, I kept to the same idea, albeit with a few aesthetics borrowed from the SC II version of the BC.

Now, a bit of background on Norad II. In the SC universe, it is the Terran Confederacy flagship of General Edmund Duke, (hence the flag) - the ship appears several times as a playable unit throughout the SC I and Brood War campaigns. I chose Norad II, because it was an important catalyst to several events that take place early in the SC storyline, and symbolized the fall of the Terran Confederacy's empire. And, even though technically, in the game Norad II is Teal (light olive green) I chose blue, since I thought it looked better with it.

As you can hopefully tell in the last photo, I've added some functionality to it, simply because I didn't want a completely stationary model. It features spinning turbines, a "functioning" Yamato cannon (the BC's greatest weapon) and "working" atmospheric thrusters. I'm still putting together a video demonstrating all these features, so look out for it soon! ;)

In any case, enjoy, feedback is welcome, looking forward to connecting to any Starcraft fans here on eurobricks! :)

I've never play the game , but this is a pretty massive moc ! Great use of light

I've never played the game, but this MOC is utterly awesome. Massive, very heavy on the usage of SNOT building and with awesome light functions. Isn't it funny that so many MOCs seem to have a face hidden in them (look at the last picture)?

Very nice. Are the LED lights behind those turbines? That must cast some cool shadows. Just wondering where you got your lights from: Standard Lego or third party parts?

I was more of a Zerg/Protoss player.... but I do like taking down BattleCruisers

The lights/functionality is awesome, as is the blending of he old and light grey...

And while I get the flag is accurate - I'd probably take it off for in public as some people might take offense....

Great MOC of an awesome and iconic Spaceship. The lighting is great, i guess the exposure of the image is a bit too low, but the lights set nice highlights on the model. I would love to see some playability added to it though:)

Thanks! Nah, just standard Lego LED's. Bought a bunch a few years ago and been using them since - they're pretty expensive though, which is why I'll likely switch over to third party LED's in the future. And yes, the lights are hidden in the corners just behind the turbines :D - got the idea from my computer's cooling fans, since they got LED's behind them - I thought, 'hey, why not?' lol.

Yeah, the grey was kinda tricky in certain places, and I could certainly use more of it lol. I also understand your concern - I remember you pointed it out to me at the picnic as well. And you're technically correct; however, this falls into the same scenario as something like the "General Lee" 69' Charger from Dukes of Hazzard (albeit more known than Starcraft) - or the "hammerhead" insignia that appears repeatedly in "Pink Floyd The Wall" film. To those who don't know of the TV series/movie/characters, etc, such things come off as offensive, but then again, there are those who still want and appreciate specific details, regardless of their real background. I get it though, in some cases, it's just not worth the risk...

That said, the whole colour scheme is coming off anyway - And since I imagine I won't be scrapping this BC for a very long time, I plan to turn it into the Aleksander, the UED's (United Earth Directorate) flagship, another iconic BC in the Brood War storyline.

Ps. If you guys had the time/idea/parts to build a Starcraft unit, what would you build?

Thanks for the kind words ladies and gents! - and, good news, the video of the Battlecruiser is ready :classic: (those who want to see the functional features, you can skip ahead to 2:56)

Edit: For some reason, I can't seem to be able to directly embed the video, but

to view it on youtube :)

Nice work on the battlecruiser, instantly recognizable! Back when I played Starcraft, I would sometimes deliberately prolong missions in single player until I got a full "key" of fully upgraded battlecruisers with Yamato Guns, then just roll over the enemy bases with them.... Nothing more fun that wiping out half their infrastructure with your opening salvo.

The detail in this is simply amazing. i really like the chains, you dont see many of those in MOCs. It seems to fall in like with the Star Wars collectors edition models. The ones that look cool but are to expensive to buy and display anywhere because no one has a big enough room to show them all off. How long did this take to build?

Thanks! Well, I had started building it around early November last year - none of the features like the working engines, Yamato cannon and lights were really planned either, they all just kinda grew into it - In short, I think it took me about 8 months or so - that's partly due to a busy work schedule and because I kept adding features to it, but then again, I'm glad I spent more time making them work in the first place.

It's funny to prank my friends with it though lol, since nobody realizes it's remote-control (or powered) - they just jump back when I fire the "Yamato cannon" haha -
