technicmad Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 I have finished reviewing the 42008 Service Truck: http://rebrickable.com/blog/2013/review-42008-service-truck Slowly getting better at the photos/videos. I think :) Quote
MrNumbskull13 Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Nice review! I was really thinking about getting this set but I've decided to get the rm8's boss crawler when it comes out. If that is out of stock when I have the money I'll get this. Quote
Freekysch Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Very nice review, good job ! This is sure not one of my favorite Lego Technic Trucks, just because it looks ugly. Sorry if i was to cruel, but the design isn't finished. Otherwise, the functions are ok, i like that is integrates pneumatics and PF all-in-one set. Thank you again, for this nice review ! Quote
technicmad Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 So, can it tow the 8109? Ha, it can tow the 42009 (which I didn't video) so I think it can tow near anything :) Quote
DLuders Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Great review, Nathan! We're all going to have to save our coins for this set too! Quote
Eigenbroetler Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 nice! can we get a size comperison with 8109? Quote
technicmad Posted June 30, 2013 Author Posted June 30, 2013 nice! can we get a size comperison with 8109? Sorry, don't have 8109 :) Without actually counting the studs, they look about the same to me. Quote
Cwetqo Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Ha, it can tow the 42009 (which I didn't video) so I think it can tow near anything :) He mentioned 8109 because that's the purpose of that kind of trucks: To rescue and tow other trucks. My cousinn has similar tow/lift truck and its really powerful machine (also expensive, around 400.000 eur). Quote
Kumbbl Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 42008 is a set i will definitely miss because: - quite ugly - weird mixture of features and technological principles... - old wine in new wineskins ;-) Quote
efferman Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 dito, there is nothing special in it and there is so much room that making rc is no challenge, hm fully rc maybe Quote
N-4K0 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 The green beams and parts would be my only + for buying it, and yet it's too small and has too little of those parts. I think I'll go for the 42009 instead. Quote
davidmull Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 It's a very nice set,it's not at all ugly! It's great to see pf plus pneumatics too. Ill build this while I'm waiting for the outriggers to retract on 42009 ha Quote
gevans12 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Ill build this while I'm waiting for the outriggers to retract on 42009 ha Lol @ davidmull....I think it's a nice looking set actually, though I'm not a fan of the stabilisers, il probably mod them to be more like the ones on the 8285 so they will actually provide some stability Quote
Paul B Technic Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Thanks for the review. Not going to be high on my shopping list but I might get it depending on the local price here. Quote
N-4K0 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 - old wine in new wineskins What's wine and wineskins? Quote
1974 Posted July 2, 2013 Posted July 2, 2013 Ask Jesus. Usually you hear; 'old wine, new bottles" .. meaning same old technology just new fancy dress to to put it in Loving the combo of pneumatics and LAs, about time. I think I'll get this one, green is looking great! Wheels not though. TLG should design (or use some old molds) as no truck uses lowprofile tyres like that Lol @ davidmull....I think it's a nice looking set actually, though I'm not a fan of the stabilisers, il probably mod them to be more like the ones on the 8285 so they will actually provide some stability They do seems to do what actual servicetrucks do. They're suppose to dig into the ground and provide stability when hauling up another truck. In that way, they seem to work quite well, unlike the new mobilecrane Quote

jantjeuh Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think I'm going to skip this one - not keen on the aesthetics and the mishmash of different mechanisms (LA, pneumatic). Quote
CP5670 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I was planning to get this but am not so sure now. The LA should have been a pneumatic piston considering that the set appears to be pneumatic-focused in other ways, and the model seems quite small considering its $120 price. On the plus side, I like the compressor and anything green is good. Quote
Lakop Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I like it and the green parts will come in handy for an Eddie Stobart moc (for those that know of Eddie Stobart). H it's not in the UK as yet. but wait. let me check Argos. it's now available at S@H 149 swiss franc (correct me if i'm wrong) is about £105 pounds. Quote
piterx Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 yeah i definitely want this set so i can make the crawler that im building in a green dress ^.^ it will look awesome Quote
Voodoo Hand Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 I noticed that this very truck is already up for sale in the Netherlands at the 'Bart Smit' store for 119,99 Euro http://www.bartsmit.com/lego-technic-sleeptruck-42008 Quote
