chorlton Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 (edited) Using Rebrickable I realised I had almost enough parts to build 42008. Using the on-line build instructions I came up with this. Apart from the obvious colour changes, I'm missing one windscreen upright, some small sloped panels, my hose lengths are slightly different and the new 5 long lift-arms, which were easily replaceable with thin beams. They're only used on the tow-frame at the rear so don't actually move. Disappointingly, I'm actually glad that I didn't pay money for this set. As stated above, there's very little new in this model and there's are a few gripes I have, namely: The winch operation is very cumbersome. It's difficult to let out the rope, while lifting the locking ratchet, while being ready to stop the motor. If you don't stop the motor then the rope starts rewinding when it runs out of length. The pneumatics are too soft. Both the tow-frame lowering and the extension boom need a finger-push to get going. Some of my hose lengths are slightly longer than specified but not enough to cause this much sponginess. Overall, 6/10. ...edit: and I just found dokludi's replica in another thread. Knew I'd seen it somewhere. I'm amazed he did it without access to official instructions! Edited July 29, 2013 by chorlton Quote
FuzzyBallz Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 That's because it needs to be green for it to work! Quote
chorlton Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 That's because it needs to be green for it to work! It's already zero emissions and carbon neutral? Quote
PsyKater Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Did anybody notice the number plate showing a name? It's: SU 54NN3 = SUSANNE (German equivalent for Susan) Is there a Technic Designer with this name? Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Did anybody notice the number plate showing a name? If there was I think it would have been 'blogged'. Maybe one of the technic designers named it after there child or wife.... Quote
thebigf Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I've got the set last weeking. I think it's a rather nice set... good mixture of parts, fantastic new colour. It's worth the money. Actually I got 42009, 42005 and 41999 as well. Quote
leksivalen Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) I'll get this only if I can find a really good deal somewhere... but for 42009, I'll definitely buy it. A and B model is really good Edited August 13, 2013 by leksivalen Quote

afol1969 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 (edited) I got the set recently for 85€. Of course, it's another truck like other sets before (old wine in new skins), but I like the look with green parts. It's something new than other contruction sets in yellow and red...Surely the green parts I've already planned for a new moc. Greetings Alex Edited August 14, 2013 by afol1969 Quote

I'll wait till next year when the new models will arrived. Price for 42008 will still go down. I'm not in a hurry to have this model Quote
N-4K0 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 True. I didn't have any rush getting the 42009 either, now, but I just had to get it now Quote
JGW3000 Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) Did anybody notice the number plate showing a name? It's:SU 54NN3 = SUSANNE (German equivalent for Susan) Suzan may be someone at TLG. For what its worth, I accidentally noticed that the author of the pdf instructions, downloaded from LEGO website, for the 8109 main model, is "suzan", you can see this by right-clicking on the file name and select properties, from Windows explorer. Clearly suzan is someone working at LEGO group, and is associated with the Technic team in some regards, at least in preparation of the pdf instruction books. Edited December 2, 2013 by JGW3000 Quote
