August 14, 201311 yr I think they should not make a new batch. Just to keep to the rules. What they can do is that upload the 41999 instructions and let people build them them selfs.

August 14, 201311 yr If you guys start a thread and in the first post write what the options should be in the vote thing, I´ll add that to the first post as a vote option!
August 14, 201311 yr If I remember the original discussion of the contest right, LEGO admitted that they were actually going to lose money on the exclusive sets. With no development budget, custom packed boxes, exclusive parts in small batches, and selling the set for the same price as 9398, they didn't make any money. I think the decision to limit the production run to 20000 was just a way of limiting the losses while still promoting the Technic brand. (I have no inside information about the above, it is just speculation and heresay). Therefore I think that the only way LEGO could be convinced to make more of these would be if they also sold them for much more money. However, it appears the demand is there so maybe it would be worth it. It would be interesting to know how many 9398 sets they produced, and therefore over how many units they get to amortize a typical development program.

I bought the set mainly because it was "exclusive", a limited, numberen, one-time only run. That is 99% of the appeal to me as a Technic collector. If they make another run because demand is high, they will ruin their brand. I don't think they will do it. Look at how many people have requested reruns of Café Corner, Market Street and Green Grocer. LEGO has not done that despite the fact they could sell thousands of those sets in a heartbeat. I know I would buy them, because I'm missing these from my Modular Street (as are many AFOLS).
August 14, 201311 yr I think "new batch" is still part of first 20000. Edited August 14, 201311 yr by Dorino
August 14, 201311 yr I agree they shouldn't make any more of them. It was intended to be Limited so let it be that, if they suddendly made more they'd be a lot of upset people who bought it for it's Limited status ... I bought it as its Limited and a great set Take Ferrari for example, Enzos' philiosphy was to always make 1 less car than the number of people interested in it, that way there's always 1 person in the world who wants one.
August 14, 201311 yr They could do like the UCS Millenium Falcon : Produce a new bactch of sets, but without the exclusive license plate. That way, there would be more bosses avalible, but the 20000 first ones would remain exclusives.

Or like Paul said, there is no reason why they can't just sell the blue and silver parts. Many people would probably buy a second crawler. Only the 20,000 limited ones would have the special plate.

However, the 10020 Santa FE Super Chief was also a limited edition (10.000 sets again) and later (re)issued without a numbered tile. I do not know how much uproar this caused in the community though (this was my dark ages), but it does show that TLG have done this before I do not think TLG should make any more 41999s However it was real nice of TLG to do this and I'm sure they can recoup the loss (allthough the net income of this callout to the fan community is probably greater than the actual loss, in sales of other Technic sets, most notably the original crawler) but they should really just move on to the next Technic competition, imho that is
August 14, 201311 yr Sure if the crawler cost so much so develop it would make sense to sell more of it. Especially if it has a plain box and no printed license plate. Then again i could go for RM8 on a plate, even if only a sticker. Wouldn't be the first time a designers name ended up on a license plate.
August 14, 201311 yr I could care less about the numbered plate. I was hoping to pick up the crawler because of the unique wheels and blue color, both of which I'd like to use on future mocs. I have the opportunity to buy some LEGO at a discounted price this weekend, so I was holding out till then. It appears I waited too long.
August 15, 201311 yr Anyone else notice on thier wheels that the white stripe looks scratched at the edges like in this picture? Any ideas on how to fix it without taking away the value? All 4 of my wheels have the same scratch look.
August 15, 201311 yr Yeah, mine do too. I have no idea how to fix this and make it look professional.
August 15, 201311 yr Might be a bit off topic here, but has anyone noticed the seller on Bricklink with 50 sets!?
August 15, 201311 yr Yeah, mine do too. I have no idea how to fix this and make it look professional. All the 41999 wheels are like that. But if you're anal about the edge having thinner paint and have the patience, get a hobby airbrush with white paint, take off all 4 wheels and repaint them. Might be a bit off topic here, but has anyone noticed the seller on Bricklink with 50 sets!? Wow, what douche. He only has 4 ratings. I wouldn't give him my money even if he sells it at MSRP. August 15, 201311 yr Alright, I'm definitely sound like a newb here (because I am with the technic line), but I was wondering if you guys can help me out. Is it normal for the boss/crawler (or i guess any PF lego) to have a power loss after the vehicle gets stuck while the motor is under load? What I mean is, when I try to climb an object that the boss cant traverse, I start hearing a high pitch/whining sound coming from the motor, and then I lose power to the set (lights dim out, no power to motors). After a couple of seconds, everything is back to normal. This is confusing me... any help is appreciated! Edited August 15, 201311 yr by darwin316

One of the vices against the original 9398 is that it isn't really that good of a crawler compared to MOCs that gurus here have built. Now add more weight, the winch system, and lights, and the performance is even worse.

I might have to strip this set to make it lighter, lol.
August 15, 201311 yr Personally I got the 41999 for the looks and messing with my cats. If I want a rock crawler, I would get a real one.

Same here, I got it mostly for display (and for more electronic parts for MOCs). Though this is lego afterall, and the fun for me now is learning from other builders' MOCs and realizing that the simpler and lighter the design, the better. Looks is just a bonus.

Unfortunatly same here, when it starts to do actual crawling it stops with the high pitch wine for a few seconds. have the original crawler and a moc up one, all three good for a slow motion race on a level surface.

I don't understand this. There are no end of videos of these crawlers being driven over all sorts of things. No, they haven't got a patch on real RC ones, but if your Lego crawlers only work on the flat perhaps there is something wrong with them?
August 15, 201311 yr This is strange... You can actually order the 5 x 11 blue panels(about $2 each) from Lego, but every other blue and silver part from the 41999 is not allowed to be sold because they are "Licensed" The wheels were also "Licensed" Yes, the service rep used the word "Licensed" they said the same thing before about the orange parts from the Unimog, that they were "Licensed" orange parts... I kind of understand that because of the Mercedes name(even though they were the same orange color that has always existed) Wonder why the panels are allowed to be sold though..? You can buy all the pieces from the swedish bricks and pieces
