Hi all,

the 2013 models are somehow disappointing to me:

42000: Just the next formula 1 racer

42008: just the next tow truck

42009: just the next mobile crane - bigger but nothing new compared to the 8421 apart from the outriggers - other features are implemented worse compared to the 8421...

So i racked my brains what could be a top model which does not simply reiterate models already released... Then a german dump truck came in my mind:

A picture says more than 1000 words:

dumptruck.jpg

I think such a backloader dump truck could have some nice - and party new(!) - features:

a) backloading mechanism for two trash cans - probably best driven by pneumatic

b) fully open-able back door for unloading the complete trash-load - maybe best driven by LAs

c) dumpable trash-container - driven by LAs

d) chain driven trash pressure mechanism inside the trash-loader

e) all stuff like V6 engine, differencials, steering, tiltable cab, opening doors

Please excuse by partly bad english - it's not so easy to know all these special terms... but i hope you understand what i mean...

b, c,d could all be driven by PF switched by a "gearbox" like with 42009

What do you think?

I think that would be a great idea, especially if they keep the orange color scheme. Hope Lego brings back pneumatics soon too. I am kind of seeing that truck with these wheels, but I guess it could be unimog wheels. I think however the functions listed could be fit into a scale model of the dump truck with the wheels I suggested before. I think your idea could work and perfectly combines LA's and pneumatics.

@ Kumbbi: I like your MOC, but I can't imagine The Lego Group actually producing a set based on a "garbage truck". Only 5% of all Lego sets are bought by AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego); the other 95% are bought by parents or rich kids.

Here's what would happen:

Mom to her 13-year-old son: "Happy Birthday, Timmy!"

Timmy: "Oh, I got a Garbage Truck for my birthday...." :sceptic:

I find that specific truck a little boring-looking, but I am more used to American-style garbage trucks myself. As for the idea of a garbage truck, I would totally support that. With all the functions a working garbage truck has to do, it could be a very impressive Technic showcase.

DLuders, they did a garbage truck AND a recycling truck in the first wave of "Great Vehicles" sets last year. Granted, there is a difference between a $20 set and the $200 Technic flagship. But I think they would do it, hypothetically. It's an interesting model. I doubt that there were all that many 13YO boys clamoring for a $200 Unimog utility truck before TLG made it, either.

There are so many kinds of trucks that could be made as such a premium model.

I would really like to see something like a concrete mixer:

betonmischer_700x.jpg

Either 3 or 4 axles and so on.

Or a concrete pump:

m24_betonpumpe.jpg

Or (and I really wish for something like this) a proper fire engine:

At best with working blue signal lights, horn, and a working water tank

all are good ideas, but:

- what is the principle difference between a concrete pump truck and a crane truck like 8258 - concerning needed machanics!? real live pumping is not possible with lego...

- i'm searching for a model which allows to be featured with as many as possible mechanically (or with pneumatic) driven stuff... concerning this i come back to my trash truck as the most featurefull model... but i admit: the concrete mixer has also a lot of potential...very good idea

A concrete pump usually has a multilink arm. Comparable to 8258, but much bigger and more complex, on the other hand it is nothing like 42009 or the likes.

why not a airport fire engine with extingiuscher boom?

This would indeed be a nice model. But we already had a airport fire engine and it was nothing like a flagship model. If motorized, then ok. The firefighter-mog MOC was already brilliant in that direction.

Perhaps The Lego Group could name the possible flagship set with a euphemism (such as a "Sanition Engineer station" or "Refuse Truck", and not a "garbage truck"). A BIG, pneumatic creation like gabfigo/ gabrisn77's BIG Lego Technic pneumatic truck would be great (Brickshelf gallery) (

I like the idea of a garbage truck. If LEGO were to build a garbage truck, I'd like to see them design one of the side load garbage trucks. It's been on my list of mocs I want to build, and it would be nice to see how LEGO would design one.

The Barcode Reader Truck was probably the closest LEGO has gotten to building a Technic garbage set.

C'mon, a garbage truck? Surely we can do better than that, right? A fire engine might be good, but there's other stuff out there that would be cool. Like say, a Feller- Buncher? I can think of many other vehicles I'd like to see as a flagship.

Examples:

Case CX800 Demolition Excavator:

2923800.jpg

Before you all cry out that it'd be just another 8043, this thing has swappable booms, a telescopic boom, and variable geometry tracks. Also, doesn't this thing look mean? A good B model might be a regular excavator, or a bulldozer.

Vermeer T1255 Terrain Leveler

085a800.jpg

Oh yeah, this is awesome. It could be made so that all you'd do is spread some bricks in front of it, and it'd scoop up by remote control. Fun, and practical!

For more mining vehicles, I'd like to see stuff like roadheaders, in tunnel excavators, rope shovels, and maybe some blasthole drills. And maybe a grader too.

Since y'all want a cement mixer, I'd go for this:

Oshkosh S-Series Front Discharge Mixer - 6 axle

075sra800.jpg

But my top model is probably this:

MAN TGX XXL SLT + Goldhofer Modules with Girder Frame

70180a800.jpg

It's a really big special transport truck, made for hauling electrical equipment.

All of these are cool, right? And unusual, right? Anyway, I could go at this all day, given all the stuff I find at cranesetc.co.uk, a site that reviews models like this. The same site is also where I got all the pictures. Go there, you may find inspiration for a new project.

I agree with a Fire Truck. I think kids would love a ladder truck. And it could have many functions: steering, v8 motor, stabilizers, raise/lower ladder, extend ladder, swing ladder.ladder-19-fdic_06.jpg

such a firetruck with ladder needs more or less exactly the same mechanics as a mobile crane - packaged other look - i want something new! ;-)

I think the terrain leveler would be a great and original Technic set (even though it's yellow :hmpf:) and could really bring back pneumatics.

TLG tends to re-make old sets in updated versions. for example 8851 was the old and 8043 is now the new digger, there are many other examples out there that we are all aware of, and not just in Technic, city as well.. My suggestion is my favourite one of all Technic, the 8872 Tractor truck and trailer with a Forklift. The have sort of done a re-make but it was the B model for the 8251 Tow Truck. My ideal re-make would be with mini LA's, winch, and also adjustable ride height for the Trailer. So an updated old set would have better chances of been made than a new un tested model that has a limited compatibility with other sets.

How about some mini-sets that add onto the 8110 unimog, like the cement mixer addon that replaces the included crane and pickup bed, or maybe a set that adds the lawnmower attachment on ? Perhaps the train car pulling unimog

They should make something with the same idea as the 42009's b-model. It is 2 models in one model so we could have some sort of truck with a massive trailer and an excavator in the same set so that you can tow the excavator around on the trailer!

A fire truck would be great.Plus, it could give Lego a chance to bring back 5x11 panels in red and possibly some more metallic silver elements :look:
