Lind Whisperer Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I would love to but I have this feeling that I'd want to change the race, class, and name of my first character which isn't the one I intend to do the most. Is there any way around that perhaps? If so, I'll get up a character either tomorrow or Monday. You might be able to RP an excuse for changing race(perhaps something about how your species undergoes metamorphosis?), and I doubt people would take issue with your character deciding in-game to change his name, but base classes are forever*. You can't change 'em. *Unlike diamond engagement rings, which have only been a thing since the '30s. Quote

Kintobor Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 So saying that my character is cursed and changes race through powerful magic? Actually, I believe race and gender are set once you start, same with name and age and starting class. If you want a new character you'll have to restart at level 1 and drop the old character. There are items in game that are affected by race and gender, and constantly flip-flopping between them is bending the rules. If you want some help making a character, though, I'm more than willing to help! Send me a PM and I can help you make a character you'll enjoy playing! Quote

Myrddyn Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Make a character, and hang around the hall chatting to people, and that'll go further towards giving you a feel for whether you like the character than just lurking in the subforum, and if you don't like him/her, scrap him/her and make a new character. Playing with a character you don't like will also give you ideas about what traits you DO want in your character. Even go on a quest - if you spend a month on a quest, get to level 5, and then scrap that character and start over at level 1, statistically speaking you're at the same place as if you didn't make a character and spent a month just lurking. Thanks for the motivation! I wasn't aware you could scrap a character and start a new one! I'll have a character up sometime this weekend then. Quote

If you can think and type, which it seems like you can, then you should be able to read. Have you read the Rules & FAQs? If not, QUIT asking questions, go and read, then come back and ask the questions that weren't answered on the first page of this topic. And then make a character and play the game. Sandy Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Are we allowed to let our 2nd character 'borrow' something/anything of our 1st characters inventory? The two characters can exchange items if they meet at the Hall or in a quest, just like with other players' characters. Whoa there, calm down, kid. I'll go read it again. There's no need to act like that. I apologize for UsernameMDM's outburst. Hope it does not shun you away from joining this game. Sometimes we take this game too seriously, because many of us have been playing it for over 3 years now. It's still meant to be accessible to new players, although I admit the rules can be a handful to learn. The same goes with any RPG, however, and having motivation will get you far. Quote

It's fine, I should have read the rules a bit more carefully. I can understand that and I would as well to be perfectly honest. I might not have as much experience as everyone here but I have some. If you count Elder Scrolls Online and Destiny. But, I will still take a closer look at the rules and maybe take some notes because that is a lot to remember! Quote

UsernameMDM Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) I might not have as much experience as everyone here but I have some. I would suggest you decide between 2 classes you like and pick one. Then, at level 15, you can choose an Advanced class which is a combination of your base class with one of the other base classes. Then at level 30 you have access to the Expert classes. Level 40 has the Veteran classes and 50 the Master classes. So, you are really not stuck in one role/class for the entire Heroica run. Flare Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Am I just missing something, or what is the "Iron Fist" effect? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Am I just missing something, or what is the "Iron Fist" effect? It's a Chi Monk attribute; it lets you break obstacles. Quote
JimBee Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Chi Monk job trait, basically the same thing as Spellcasting for Mages. Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 How do the Handicaps in the Fields of Glory work? Can we select one for a battle, and then select it again for the next battle, or are we only allowed to use each one once, or only one total for the entire stay? Quote
Pyrovisionary Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 How do the Handicaps in the Fields of Glory work? Can we select one for a battle, and then select it again for the next battle, or are we only allowed to use each one once, or only one total for the entire stay? Maybe the page where the handicaps are listed might help you discover that. If not ... "One last thing: if y'all feel the Fields are not enough of a challenge for you, you can ramp up the difficulty by choosing an extra handicap for the duration of one battle to gain even more Glory Points. The more dire the handicap you choose, the greater the reward." Quote
Lind Whisperer Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Maybe the page where the handicaps are listed might help you discover that. If not ... I am well aware of the page, and it is because of the page that I asked. "One last thing: if y'all feel the Fields are not enough of a challenge for you... I understand fully that an extra handicap for the duration of one battle would make that specific battle more difficult, however this does not translate to making the entire Fields more of a "challenge," it only intensifies the one battle pertaining to it. I know you're somewhat new here, Lind, so allow me to give you a little advice as a player: Never. EVER. Give the QM ideas. Now, speaking as a QM: This gives me an idea... Quote
Yzalirk Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Can I change the skin tone and picture for my character? By that, I mean changing the green orc head to the Uruk-Hai one? Along with the armor on him? Quote

About the armor and weapons though, how should I approach changing that? Quote
