I think tweaking a rule because of a problem arising in one of your quests is a little bit unfair.

That seems to be the stem of the problem, really. :shrug_confused:

Don't be afraid to make challenging enemies, Sandy!

Most of the rule tweaking occurs during Sandy quests, because he isn't happy with how things turn out when he sees firsthand how the classes he created turn out. :sadnew:

What are you jammering about? I should only tweak the rules if a problem arises in somebody else's quest?

Like Flare said, many times I can tell if there's problems with the rules and the mechanics only when I host. Besides, it's not like I'm being partial to my monsters here, I just want this game to be balanced and make sense.

I'm doing my damnest, but it's absurd to think I should fix problems related to the rules by adding exceptions to the rules to my battles instead of changing the problematic rules themselves. But we've been through this plenty of times already, so enough about that.

Why not just revive the archdemons as "shades" (or "doppelgngers", or "Shadow of the Collosus Archdemon, etc.) instead of tweaking one fot eh seven major expert classes? Seems like an easier fix. :shrug_oh_well:

Okay, but the next time that another QM wants to tweak the rules of the entire game to be partial to their storyline, I hope you'll let them go ahead and do it.

...healing players on the front row should be done likewise then, but they are not.

Why would healing players need to be done from the front row? Doesn't make any sense to me.

The difference between myself and other QMs is that this game is my creation. If I say demons cannot become undead within the context of this story, it's my prerogative.

If you want different rules, go create your own game.

Why not just say: Nope. Can't resurect this one, instead of thinking up even more rules no one likes?

Again:

1. reason: Logic within the context of the game's world.

2. reason: I want to put more emphasis on the enemy types.

3. reason: I needed the mechanics to suit the overarching storyline (not just talking about this one quest).

And this is not about resurrection, it's about necromancy! Two totally different things. Check wikipedia if you don't know the difference.

I think that I've identified the single largest flaw in our game... but I shan't write it here because others would not react favourably to my statements.

To some degree, I've always felt that one can only take logic so far in a fantasy setting, but I agree with Sandy on the rule change, to the extent that single type demons, holy, mechanical monsters, etc. should be not be able to be raised. However, I do think that when a rule change is made that somehow limits a class that is admittedly not OP, something should also be given in concession. So yes, Necromancer's shouldn't be able to raise the above monsters but perhaps as a give and take, the monsters' they raise level increases after each successful battle just like a heroes. :shrug_oh_well: People are generally happier to give up something if they are getting something in return.

When we get responses like this, it's never fun to be part of the community.

I know I'm being a grump. I don't mind the ruling (even though it's more rules to remember... and they're there for story purposes that one person thought up) but that can't be the justification. "Go create your own game", even with the little teasey face, ends conversation with you winning just because you shared your game with us. It's not a friendly or encouraging response.

Well I'm interested to hear. If you're willing to share, send me a PM.

All we want is to see this creation flourish, not flounder. You may have created the game, but it's the community that's given it life. So yes, you created the rules and the major houses, but it's other QM's who've given life to the world and populated it with multitudes of characters and places and stories that you'd never have the time to create. So saying this is strictly "your creation" leaves a bad taste in my mouth, as if everything I've added to this game was for nothing.

Imagine if Heroica was a movie, and at the end of the movie, the only credit was "Directed by Sandy". We know there was other talented people behind the scenes and on screen who helped make it happened, but they're not being acknowledged for their hard work. This is how you're acting. This is your game just as much as it is mine and Zepher's and CallMePie's and everyone else's who is a part of this community. :classic:

I also agree with this statement. Well put Kintobor.

Don't get this wrong, Sandy. I think we all give you all the credit for creating and managing the game. All we say is that it isn't yours alone anymore. :classic:

I'm sorry for sounding rude just earlier, but I was just getting fed up with the way Zepher insinuating that I couldn't change the rules the way I see fit, or that if I did, everyone would get the same right.

Kintobor & everyone, this game is my creation. I've spent literally hundreds of hours during the two and half years to make up the rules, build the world, take photographs for illustration, host dozens of quests, and tweaking it to find the perfect balance. In no way does that negate the fact that this is the community's game to play, but you guys did not create this game. You did not go through all that trouble. You guys added your flavor to it, you made it possible, you kept it going for this long, and I'm forever grateful to you for that, but you still don't get to run me over.

You can disagree with my rulings, and I've never said I'm infallible, but there's a limit to what you guys can affect. If I say something stands despite initial disagreements, then it stands.

Zepher, you just went too far by saying that other QMs should be able to change this game to their liking if I can. No, it doesn't work like that, and there's no reason for you guys to get insulted by it. I am the creator of this game, I get the final call. I'm trying my damnest to be fair and just, but it's impossible to please everyone in every situation.

In the future, if you ask me to reconsider something, and I say no, then I wish you guys would leave it at that. I really don't have time to split hairs about every minor issue, I'm sorry.

Sounds fair enough.

I just hope you will have an ear for the community as well. That they can leave comments about rule changes and that they can make proposals for rule changes as well. As it has been in the past.

Noone likes to be pushed around by someone. Neither the manager not the user. I am sure that you know that and manage this game likewise.

I don't know what to say, other than make it clear that I have no plans to dare discuss rules in the near future.

Why not?

Fair enough. Everyone has their limit, myself included. I've exploded once on this forum, so I can say that it's nothing personal.

We aren't denying your importance here Sandy, and neither was I. All I'm saying is that the community made this game what it is. It's never my intention to run you over. I also understand how difficult it is to create something like this: I've been a DM for campaigns before, and creating a world isn't easy. I really do appreciate the amount of work you put into this game, and if it seemed like I don't, I'm sorry. I just want to ensure that we finish this story as a community. :classic:
