Waterbrick Down Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Knights will be useful again. Knights already are useful. They are still the best class to soak up free hits, hands-down, even if they aren't returning maximum damage to slay the thing hitting them. Quote
Kintobor Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Since we're talking about knights, whats the whole deal with their Damage soaking abilities? What does the shield do besides have a 1/6 chance to avoid damage, because it says the shield decreases the effects of the attack. Is the shield's SP doubled? Quote
The Legonater Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I don't think we ever got a final answer from Legonater. Obviously I'm biased, but recalling that immunity to healing was only added afterward as a balancing factor and because the helmet blocks Ether-based attacks (Immunity to Magic), I'd argue that the staff would still work, because it's not Ether-based healing (and we've already seen that Potions, another form of non-Ether based healing, do work thanks to Quest 75). I agree, it'd make sense to just keep it to Ether-based items. Quote

Palathadric Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I don't follow at all. You're taking about their physical shield and not the "shield" roll, right? Quote
Kintobor Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I don't follow at all. You're taking about their physical shield and not the "shield" roll, right? If you read any DAMAGE description for knight based classes, it says that shields decrease the damage of the attack. Apparently it doesn't mean anything. Sorry! Quote
Sandy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 If you read any DAMAGE description for knight based classes, it says that shields decrease the damage of the attack. Apparently it doesn't mean anything. Sorry! Duh, it means that the SP (=Shield Points) in the shield-equipment reduces the damage taken. Once upon a time, shields were the only source of SP in this game. And I know why the Counterstrike Gloves were nerfed in the past, but apparently the nerf was so inconsequential that even I forgot about it. Did any QM even use the new way the gloves worked in calculating their battles? You see, the only place the "nerf" was made was in the Marketplace description. Most of the gloves in people's stats still have the old description, which totally threw me off the loop. I know I'm being wishy-washy about this, but the nerf didn't catch wind, so I guess I'm changing it back now. Quote
CMP Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I remembered the nerf (and changed the description in my own gloves....just before selling them ) and I applied it in Quest 89 (and I think the Fields at one point). Quote

Sandy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 Gah, I'm so confused (and tired) now that I don't know what to do about the gloves! I blame Brickdoctor for having the old description in his stats and making me forget the whole nerf! Quote
Endgame Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 And I know why the Counterstrike Gloves were nerfed in the past, but apparently the nerf was so inconsequential that even I forgot about it. Did any QM even use the new way the gloves worked in calculating their battles? The problem with that is the fact that it was made for a very specific reason: the fact that it allowed bosses to be tanked and killed with nigh-zero effort. We haven't had a big boss fight with counterstrike gloves for a while; I'm a sure a QM would realize it if his boss monster was suddenly getting tanked. Quote
Sandy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 If I keep the nerf, nobody will use the gloves, but if I unnerf them, we will be back to square one. So maybe the description should read: "If the wearer takes damage from a Free Hit, they hit the attacker back with strength equal to their level". Would that sound like a compromise? Quote

Just look at Ahriman. I don't think the strategy is even viable for higher-tier heroes anymore. Quote

How is that different from the old gloves? Yeah....bosses nowadays are insanely strong. Just look at Ahriman. I don't think the strategy is even viable for higher-tier heroes anymore. True, I suppose the issue lies in single enemy bosses. Edited January 15, 2014 by Endgame Quote

Would that sound like a compromise? Sounds good. How is that different from the old gloves? They only deal damage if the free hit dealt any damage. Quote
Endgame Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Didn't the original gloves function exactly like that, and this whole discussion whether or not to bring them to their original state? Quote
CMP Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Didn't the original gloves function exactly like that, and this whole discussion whether or not to bring them to their original state? No, now the free hit has to deal damage in order for the hero to counter. Quote
Endgame Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Ah, apologies, I misread. Sounds perfect to me! Quote
Sandy Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 How is that different from the old gloves? They worked even if the hero in question was not damaged (thanks to high SP and sitting in the back row), which lead to the enemies getting defeated automatically. I shall change the description once again, then! Counterstrike Gloves (If the wearer is damaged by a Free Hit, they counter with strength equal to their level.) Quote
Zepher Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 I was using them the new way. I argued against the nerf, but then in practice I found it fair... but since I was wrong last time around, I may as well see what happens this time. Quote

joeshmoe554 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Does a knight need to have a shield equipped to get the chance at deflection on damage? Quote

CMP Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Alexis is less than one battle away from Level 40. (On an unrelated note, I secretly hope she goes Sylvan Ranger so I can see one of the Veteran Classes in action...) Are you still considering reducing the level needed to create a second character, Sandy? Quote
