t-brick Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This is my newest LEGO project, a model of castle Neuschwanstein. I wanted to build this for some time because it is a beautiful and interesting building and I don't live too far from it. The original castle was build by the famous "Swan King" or "Fairy Tale King" Ludwig II of Bavaria. Today it is one of the most visited castles with more than 1.3 million visitors annually. It started as an LDD design that you can see in the first image. I choose the scale so that it was possible to put in (nearly) all of the windows in some reasonable form. If the windows aren't right it just doesn't look right... Difficult parts were the towers and the angled back part of the main building! I also included a little model of the king's golden carriage drawn by four white horses, approaching the gate. Of course then I had to build the real model, too. And here it is! It's been some work but I'm really happy with the result. Last but not least a cleaned up "promo shot" :-) This is also a project (#1128) on LEGO CUUSOO so if you really like it you can find it there: Neuschwanstein Castle, Bavaria Quote
JopieK Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 That costed you a lot of work and building it will cost a lot of LEGO I think :) impressive, very impressive :) Hope they will also sell Erdinger in the castle ;) Quote
soccerkid6 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Lovely castle, it resembles the real thing very well The windows are great and I like the roof o the main section Quote
The_Cook Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Very impressive. It's certainly a building that I'd expect TLG to have considered (or still be considering) as part of their Creator Expert line, eg. Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge, Sydney Opera House. Quote
Legogal Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Holy Cow! What a lovely rendition of Neuchwanstein! Did you actually count that many bricks by hand, or was the count computer generated, I hope so ! The roofs, colors and overall design are just superb! I love the views from the distance of the real thing as one drives in the neighborhood....it is so gorgeous that it makes one gasp every time it comes into view. This definitely is a solid candidate for Cuusoo! With my guess of an approximate $1500. price, does it come with a free, new adult sized house addition to place it in? Way to build!!! Quote
Infernum Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Wow! Lovely micro work! You managed to capture the look of the original amazingly! Great design! Quote
Dutchy Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Wow this looks amazing! How big is the whole build? Quote
t-brick Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 Wow this looks amazing! How big is the whole build? Thank you! It's about 70cm long and 40cm high. Holy Cow! It's not that big (about 70cm long) and has about as many parts as the Tower Bridge model, so I hope it could be a little bit cheaper! Quote
gads Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I really like miniscale MOCs and this version of castle Neuschwanstein is just perfect. I'll definitely write a post about it at historybricks.com. Grate work! Quote
Hive Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I'm not familiar with the actual castle, but the LEGO model sure looks great. Wonderful display piece. Quote
Kristel Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Wow! The details and the resemblance to the real thing are just amazing. Quote
ManInATopHat Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 WOW! That's awesome! Incredible detailed and accurate. You blew me away! Quote
Legogal Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 t-brick, Phew! Good to know that it is mini scale and only about 27 inches long! That hopefully should put the US price at less than $500US, which will greatly expand the potential market for it. And it will fit in many more rooms than a monster model. Congratulations again! Esurient Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 AWESOME build t-brick! Really impressive! Keep up the great work! Quote
BEAVeR Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Allow me to whipe the drewl of my keyboard... This is superb! The windows really work, and I'm a fan of the road leading to the castle along with the chariot. The back of the building looks great too, but I would like to see a bigger picture of it. How long did it take you to build? Anyway, this would be a great addition to the world buildings line! Quote
Miss Kyle Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Unbelievable! All the details are amazing, such a stunning work. I just visited the castle two days ago, so the memory is still fresh :D I really Iove the place, it's so quirky and yet such a masterpiece of engineering. I'd "instabuy" an official set! seba123 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Great Job and a fantastic build with lots of attention to little detail (King's coach, tree inside the castle). Chapeau chapeau! Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 That is a beautiful model t-brick! So much detail on from such a small scale Quote
Redhead1982 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 It's fantastic. I really like the clean look of the model, as it looks like it was a very easy build. I like some of the simpler details, such as the white taps for pillars. It looks marvelous from a far, and I was just as surprised seeing them. With a model like that, I'd be expecting lots of special designed bricks. All in all, it's a fantastic and impressive build. Quote
Only Sinner Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 What a beautiful castle! I think I will build a LEGO version for myself. I think a life sized one might be a bit too pretentious. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Unbelievable! Very impressive work. I'm only vaguely familiar with the actual castle, but from what I can tell, this is spot-on. I think you picked the perfect scale for it. I think that is where I struggle the most. I would definitely consider buying this if it was in the new Expert line. At about 4,000 pieces, I'd say it would fit in nicely! Keep up the great work! Quote
Trance89 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I've been there once and I've recognised it instanly. You did an excellent job on this one. Quote
