jaredchan Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I was visiting Europe with my best friend last November and arrived in Paris at Gare du Nord, unfortunately I didn't get to take a good look at this great station. Nevertheless, it so happens that I am building it for a LEGO exhibition in Cityplaza, Hong Kong half a year later and I get to visit it again, mostly in pictures taken by others The station is part of the Channel Tunnel display, which comprises the "7 wonders of the modern world" built by Legend Bricks members. The exhibition runs alongside with "Piece of Peace" Hong Kong stop at the same venue. What's built here is the middle section of the facade of the station. The building sits on 3 48x48 baseplates, and has 5 platforms, each of which is 4x32 studs long. The project was under tight schedule and I had to burn some mid-night oil. Construction started on 2 June 2013 and completed on 3 July 2013. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures and the lack of close up shots. I ironically do not have enough time to really appreciate my work and to take some good photos before they put up the glass barrier, I will do it when the event is over... Below are some pictures of the 99% finished station, which are clearer but taken offsite: Last but not least, below is a picture of my sig fig together with buzz and Little Green Men at the entrance of the station. This trio was present at the Arc de Triomphe model that I built for an exhibition at this very same venue in 2011, and went to the real Arc and Paris Nord with me last year. I hope you enjoy the pictures, if you happen to be in town in July, make sure you stop by to visit the two exhibitions (Free admission, just feel free to contact me if you need any instructions)~ Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Beautiful job recreating it! Sure you didn't borrow the one from Legend's Bricks? It looks spot on, I'm very impressed Quote
eurotrash Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 That is superb! You should be very proud of it. Quote
Spitfire2865 Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 This is amazing. I love the little clock on the outer wall. And am I correct that there is a little bird sort of thing on the middle statue? Quote
Legogal Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Wow! Very nice proportions and details! Looks a lot like the real thing, too! Quote
lightningtiger Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Okay, I have picked my jaw off the floor now......a totally AWESOME train station......Brick On 'jaredchan' ! Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Stunning work! :wub_drool: By the way the TGV could not miss! Quote
jaredchan Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks a lot guys! I wish I have more time to perfect it and to do more with the platforms~ Too bad that I am not a good builder when it comes to trains (I haven't really tried though) or I should have built an Eurostar train or something (my fellow Legend Bricks member William did build an Eurostar train for the display, but let's save it for later) Re Spitfire2865: Yes, there is indeed a bird at the foot of "Paris" statute, I am not sure which type it is though, an eagle maybe? http://www.nella-buscot.com/jardins_paris_10_gare_du_nord_1.php The clock is also a feature that I quite like, and it's correct twice a day (6am and 6pm) :-) Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 My word! It looks exactly like I remember it, only more Legoy. Beautiful job! ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Bricktrix Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) Very nice, hasnt someone else done a full version of this station before? If your doing a channel tunnel theme, surely you need to get in touch with Warren Elsmore who has built St. Pancras? http://www.flickr.co...157622397455071 (you may spy a Eurostar in the last link) Edited July 8, 2013 by Bricktrix Quote
Hey Joe Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Hey! Beautiful station! A perfect destination for the HE. Thanks, Joe Quote
Man with a hat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Awesome design. And the attention to detail is amazing. Thoses statues especially are a work of art by themselves. Quote
dvsntt Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Oh Wow! That is stunning. You are an artisan for sure, that is beautiful recreation. Quote
ManInATopHat Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Wow, that's awesome! Great detail, on huge proportions! Have you ever heard the saying from the First World War, so many men were lost from France, that it was said they'd been "Eaten by the Gare de l'Est." I know that's a different station, but this instantly reminded me of that. Great work! Quote
jaredchan Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 Forgive me for not replying to each of you guys individually, I am very thankful for your kind words and compliments and I am really glad that you like my MOC. I really wish I have more time to stay at the forums but I need to catch up with my new job, again, thank you guys! Very nice, hasnt someone else done a full version of this station before? If your doing a channel tunnel theme, surely you need to get in touch with Warren Elsmore who has built St. Pancras? http://www.flickr.co...157622397455071 (you may spy a Eurostar in the last link) Wow!!! That St. Pancras station is truly definitive and really amazing! It completely dwarfed my station as well, I wonder how much time and effort does it take to build that, very great work! Unfortunately I need to start working on another project and don't have the resources to expand my station, but I hope there's such a day that I can physically link it to Warren's work! Wow, that's awesome! Great detail, on huge proportions! Have you ever heard the saying from the First World War, so many men were lost from France, that it was said they'd been "Eaten by the Gare de l'Est." I know that's a different station, but this instantly reminded me of that. Great work! Thanks ManInATopHat! I haven't heard of that saying, I just googled it anyway~ Quote
timmyc1983 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Fantastic building there, I too when I went to Paris arrived at the Gare du Nord and it is a beautiful station, and you have captured its likeness very well here. Stunning build and good luck for the exhibition, happy building Quote
