Dannylonglegs Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 "Well. That was... unexpected.." William says as he watched Alex leave. "So. We still waiting?" "Indeed we are." Sighed the Hinckwell employee. "Indeed we are." He sat back in his chair, sipping his ale. It was now around two in the afternoon. "If we don't get a third party member soon, we'll have to book another ship to Brendenton." He looked disappointed.
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Alexandre sits in silence, then, "What time is it now? I don't really have enough money for a drink either, but oh well."
Dannylonglegs Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 Alexandre sits in silence, then, "What time is it now? I don't really have enough money for a drink either, but oh well." The three sat in silence, the cheery Hinckwell looking bored. He stirred at Alex's Question. "Eh? Oh, it's probably 3ish. The next ship to leave will leave around 6. Do you want a drink? I'm sure I could spare a coin for someone who'll help us out. It is Brendentonian custom to offer wine to guests before business transactions. Usually it's refused as part of the custom, but you aren't a Brendentonian, are you?"

It's ok, I'm not real thirsty anyways."

Fred Daniel Yam Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Arnulf arrives to the scene fastly. "Greetings lads. Name's Arnulf Bishop. I'm ready " "You took your sweet time getting here." says William. "Let's go."
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 "Wish it took you longer to arrive. Hello, Arnulf. I haven't met you before I think. I'm ready, so we can talk on our way to the ship."
Dannylonglegs Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) "Alright! Looks like we're ready to go!" Stated Samson, pulling himself out of his seat, setting his empty glass of wine on the wooded table. Norton walked in then, cowl covering his face. He pulled it back and smiled. "The arrangements are all set. We'll be boarding a grain ship headed to Brendenton." Norton lead the party to their passage, and they all boarded. After an exceedingly uneventful two day journey, the party arrived in Brendenton. The town was predominantly grey, with grey brick buildings and grey-tan gravel roads. A dense morning fog hung in the air, as the hour was still quite early. Norton and Samson lead the party towards the "Hinckwell Trading building" in the "Market District." Their tour of the city was not particularly noteworthy. The Town had a large population of were-ravens, and many buildings were in advanced stages of repair, after what might have been a city-wide fire. They passed two Cloth Shops. One managed by a sad-looking pale man, wearing the Hinckwell colours, and another maned by an arrogant looking fat man with a shiny sword. His stall had a black copper bat emblem adorning the top. Once the Party made it to the Hinckwell Trading Building, a freshly painted trading House, they met a well-dressed man. [picture pending] "Welcome to Brendenton, Heroes, You can call me Bart. My... Boss, Dill Hinckwell, is not feeling well at the moment, so I am temporarily taking his place as Branch Manager. After consulting with a few of the higher ups in the Hinckwell family, we, the Brendenton Branch of the Hinckwell family Trading Company, have determined a fiscally sensible solution to our current economic situation. There is a trade road that runs through Orsedd, the Capital of Sundestia, to the important trading city of Argentil in the northern Grauwood Kingdom, and from there, north through the Nathuz Mountains and further. The road from Orsedd too Argentil has fallen into permanent disuse however, due to an influx of unusually aggressive wolves five years back. We need this road reopened. We need a group of heroes to clear the road and find out what incited the wolves to become aggressive in the first place and neutralize it too." Edited July 16, 2013 by Dannylonglegs
Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Arnulf was amazed by wonders of the new town. It was a change from Eubric. But the troubling thoughts followed him. He pushed them aside for moments. "Nice to meet you Bart. Name is Bishop. Arnulf Bishop. How many wolves are we talking about. A pack, couple of packs, army?"
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 "Hello. I'm Alexandre le Chevalier, Knight of This Round Table. Could you tell us more? What kind of wolves? Just the average kind, or something bigger?"
Dannylonglegs Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) Arnulf was amazed by wonders of the new town. It was a change from Eubric. But the troubling thoughts followed him. He pushed them aside for moments. "Nice to meet you Bart. Name is Bishop. Arnulf Bishop. How many wolves are we talking about. A pack, couple of packs, army?" "Great to meet you, sir." The man stuttered, extending his hand to give a weak shake. "I'm afraid I don't quite know how many, but the last traders to go through the road told tales of a veritable sea of wolves hiding deep within the forest. I don't know how much of that is t-true though. Rumours are best taken with a g-grain of salt." Bart blinked and took a deep breath. "Hello. I'm Alexandre le Chevalier, Knight of This Round Table. Could you tell us more? What kind of wolves? Just the average kind, or something bigger?" "Nice to meet you as well." Bart smiled kindly, shaking the knight's hand. "I've heard mixed reorts. Some say they saw packs of average grey and black wolves, some say dire wolves. Some of the more outlandish even tell of spirit wolves and demon wolves with legs as wide as the old trees of the forest. It may also be worth noting that the forest has long been the home of pagan cults and witches. Even in the height of its use, few people ever dawdled too long in the forest. Unfortunately it appears that the forest has taken over the road." He paused for a second, passing his hand across his combed-over hair. "Here. I have a map." he stated, pulling a folded piece of parchment out of his satchel. Edited July 16, 2013 by Dannylonglegs
Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 "I see, then we should get there as soon as possible. And forget about rumors my good man." Arnulf replied "Alexandre, William any thoughts?"
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 "Yes, shall we take a certain route though? Maybe we could stop at Ofsedd, and continue to Argentil or something."
Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) "Yes Ofsesd looks like a good choice. We'll get more info there, maybe some more supplies. I like that idea Alexandre" Edited July 16, 2013 by Shoker86

"Yes Ofsesd looks like a good choice. We'll get more info there, maybe some more supplies. I like that idea Alexandre" "Sorry if it's hard to see, but that's Orsedd, the Capital of Sundestia. Yes, just follow the road to Orsedd. That part is in the grassland, and safe for travel. Once you get to Orsedd, follow the 'Grauwood Forest Road.' That is the road we need cleared. The other route to Argentil is a long roundabout road that completely circumvents the deep forest, but takes a whole month to walk by foot, not to mention it's taxed by the Queen's Mercenary Army to 'Keep it safe.' That Road is called the 'Westway Road.' The Grauwood Forest Road can get a trading crew from Orsedd to Argentil in under a week." Stated the Hinckwell with a kind smile. "And it's not patrolled by the Army, either. As soon as the Grauwood Forest Road is reopened, Trading crews can start using it again, which will not only help the Hinckwells, but also smaller trading companies and salesmen." QM Note: Can everyone still see the map? It disappeared for me. Edited July 16, 2013 by Dannylonglegs
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 "Queen's Mercenary Army? I've never heard of them. What are they all about? Are they hostile?" OOC: I see it fine, though I'm going killing my eyesight trying to figure out if the map says Ofsedd or Orsedd.
Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 "Thanks for the info, it will be usefull" Arnulf noted "Queen mercenary army, how convinient to tax, the long route. I don't like that " OOC: I can see the map
Dannylonglegs Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) "Queen's Mercenary Army? I've never heard of them. What are they all about? Are they hostile?" OOC: I see it fine, though I'm going killing my eyesight trying to figure out if the map says Ofsedd or Orsedd. "Oh, yeah. I suppose I should tell you a bit about Sundestia." blushed the Hinckwell. "Umm. So, We're ruled by Queen Cyrene, as well as numerous Lords, some more powerful than others. Brendenton is ruled by the Brendens (Lord Brenden and his son.), and West of Brendenton (east of Orsedd) resides Lord Montresor, famous for his white wine, for instance. The Church of Ennoc also holds a great deal of power in the Kingdom. We're at peace with our neighbors through a combination of Alliances and the Queen's Army of Mercenaries, the Blackguard. No one would call them hostile, but they basically do whatever they please. The Queen holds their contract, but not their loyalty or respect, you could say. They've been known to Tax whatever they please, and declare ownership of houses on whim. Most people abide by it though. It's certainly better than a drafted army like many of the surrounding nations have." Stated the Hinckwell with discontent. "They are lead by a man named General Cecil, or "the Left-Armed General," as people call him." He looked around. The Trading house was empty apart from Samson and Norton, who were idly chatting in the corner by a cart of cloth. He spoke softly. "They say that when the Queen's Husband died, she chose him as her consort." "Thanks for the info, it will be usefull" Arnulf noted "Queen mercenary army, how convinient to tax, the long route. I don't like that " OOC: I can see the map "Not many people do, and especially the trading companies. Right now, the Backguard is claiming half of all shipments of gold into the capital. It's almost not worth trying to sell gold to Orsedd anymore. The worst part is that Argentil is famous for selling cheap precious metals, due to its proximity to the mines in the south of the Nathuz mountains, and Orsedd is usually the best place to sell to." griped the Hinckwell, clearly frustrated. He quickly smiled again though. "But peace is better for trade than war, in the long run. The Blackguard will eventually move on to a different tax, no doubt." He finished with a meek smile. OoC: I see it now too. huh. Weird. Also, sorry about the size. I'll try to make a bigger one eventually. It is the first map detailing the Lower Kingdoms after all. Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) "I see, so they are taking advantage of your misfortune with the wolves. We have to clear that road, but you should never exclude black ops team if the short route remains closed" Arnulf whispered. "So you could keep peace but get lower taxes. Team with no oficcial ties with your house, could do the job, if neccesery. Dannylonglegs Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) "Hm. Orsedd seems fine. Is Queen Cyrene a good Queen" William asks as he digs the ground with his shovel "Better than most, I'd think. She manages to keep the Lords in check, and the Alliances strong, all while mourning her husband's death years ago. In-fact, you might see her in Orsedd. There's a parade Scheduled for midday tomorrow, and if you don't dilly-dally you might catch it. Most of the Lords are planing to attend. Dill was supposed to go as well, you would have accompanied him, in-fact, but he's been rather ill on and off since the fire, and the clerics think it's best he stays here and rests... I'd recommend digging outside." Stated the Hinckwell. They were inside a Trading Building after-all. "I see, so they are taking advantage of your misfortune with the wolves. We have to clear that road, but you should never exclude black ops team if the short route remains closed" Arnulf whispered. "So you could keep peace but get lower taxes. Team with no oficcial ties with your house, could do the job, if neccesery. Someone to, for example seduce the queen, and keep the general away, or remove the mercanaries...etc. " "Yes. Taking-Advantage sums it up nicely." Stated Bart glumly. He seemed to fidget uneasily when Arnulf suggested the use of un-affiliated teams to perpetrate treasonous acts. "Umm. Y-yes. Such as Heroica you mean? If things get much worse I my have to. At the moment, while irritating, the Blackguard is serving its purpose as peace-keepers, but if they ever overextend their reach, I would not protest to hiring a 'black-ops team' for the benefit of the Hinckwell house. While I do not approve of such forceful methods in most circumstances, my boss has been known to influence events in the past. He even married the daughter of an exiled noble family, the Xanataci family, in order to gain access to the council of lords. Poor Ave passed away in the fires. Ennoc rest her soul. Dill kept the title though." Edited July 16, 2013 by Dannylonglegs
Shoker86 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Arnulf listened the man carefully, remembering names. "I can not speak in Heroica name. I don't mind doing jobs that don't conflict with my moral code, killing innocents, treason. No one likes 'black ops' operations, but they are very usefull. I've served with some trading companies, so I know some of the methods. I usually don't do it" Arnulf made pause to make his statment clear "but if i find offer agreable with beforementioned moral code and pay, we could talk buisness " Arnulf said calmly "But we have some wolves to take care of"
Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 "All good discussion, everyone. I am ready to start the job." OOC: It's not the size, it's the font.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 "I too am ready, after I dig outside the building" William says
