HomerJSimpson Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Every themed forum right now think the countdown is something for them... Pretty unlikely they are all right. :) A lot of people on brickset think it is a classic space re-boot, because if you look at the top, it has all the colors of classic spacemen up to the exo suit. I would love that, but I don't know how likely it is... Quote
Rick Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Speculation about the countdown can go in this thread in General. Quote
L@go Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The (last) LEGO Fan Weekend in Skærbæk, Denmark is less than two weeks away, and normally there's a new D2C set revealed there - last year it was the latest Maersk ship, and the year before the Horizon Express. I wouldn't mind seeing the next modular there... :) Quote
Robert8 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Someone posted this on facebook. It seems the mini-modulars are out. Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Shocked that they weren't polybags. Still ugly. Quote
bjorn77 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I'm just hoping a failure in sales for those crappy mini's won't prevent LEGO from releasing another "real" mini modulars set next year. Quote
Off the wall Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 That natural history museum on Lego Ideas is amazing! I hope it gets to 10 000. It's on 6500 right now. Yes, I think that anyone interested in modular buildings would want that one. There are also several others with less support that are outstanding. Unfortunately, and from what I've seen with the modular MOCs, the piece counts are crazy high and would require some redesign by TLG personnel before they could become viable products. Some of those MOCs are 4000+ piece works and I can't see TLG producing a modular with that high of a cost. I'm not sure what it would take to build the natural history museum, but I would readily pay for a 3000 or 4000 or 5000 piece modular, but apparently TLG thinks I'm in the small minority. Quote

I agree, the current ones are under 3000 pcs. The Town Hall is largest at 2766 pcs. My Ideas modular is 2012 pcs. Also I think anything larger than a baseplate of 32 x 32 studs is not happening either. Quote

rollermonkey Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I call that the Sesame Street Brownstone... That little sideyard is perfect for Big Bird. Quote
nzlegolady Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I love that Museum - I would happily pay for the greater brick count, but I suspect Lego might think that no-one would. It would be great if it came out as a "Special Edition" or something so that the brick numbers are not such an issue (other than cost) and it doesn't encroach upon the yearly modular format/count). Do you think it is a project which the designer might release instructions for sale if it doesn't get approved by Lego for a kit? I would love to have it, but my skills aren't really good enough yet to try and figure out a version for myself. Being new to Lego, I don't know much about that stuff. Lego wasn't readily available in New Zealand when I was a kid and we were dirt poor anyway, so it's only really as an adult I have gotten into it. Those modulars are as addictive as lollies! Quote

There is certainly no harm in asking the designer if they have the instructions. There are also several sites which feature various modular designs for sale. Some of them are very nice. Quote
Herky Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 I would also buy the museum, really liked that one, also really like Talos building and have supported it. Constantly amazed at everyone's MOC and MOD creativity. If only we could get TLG to come to this thread and interact with us a bit... Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 The museum is really awesome. My first support in Lego idea was the Museum. Hope it will reach 10000 Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If a large count Lego Ideas set actually reached 10000 and was selected, that would set a new precedence. Have we ever had a CUUSOO/Ideas set produced with piece count numbering into four digits? Quote

Blakstone Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 There is certainly no harm in asking the designer if they have the instructions. There are also several sites which feature various modular designs for sale. Some of them are very nice. True. However, the Ideas rules says they can not sell their instructions without invalidating their entry. Personally I would wait to see if it is picked for production. If so, support the set by buying it. If not, they are free to give out the instructions or to sell them. Quote

As someone that has built their own designs, the elevated piece counts from MOC's are more often than not the result of fully tiling all floors of the building. Plus maybe a bit of extra furnishings and interior details. The actual building structure you really can't do a lot with in terms of part counts. You are going to eat up close to 2000 parts just getting the 32x32 with three floors. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Details are also what elevates the part count rapidly. Someone could build a blocky structure in City style with larger bricks and probably be far short of a couple of thousand pieces. It is details like tiles, microbuild furniture, using plates instead of bricks to achieve better color variations, and detailing with small parts such as round 1x1 plates that really adds to the piece count. Dharkan Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Bureau? Sounds Federal. Not really. Bureau means something like an office. You know, there are other bureaus in the world, other than FBI. ^^ Quote
Thetford Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Not really. Bureau means something like an office. You know, there are other bureaus in the world, other than FBI. ^^ I am aware of that, but it is just an odd choice of word, since bureau, in my experience, is rarely used outside public and government offices and agencies (Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Bureaucracy etc), or a French use of the word (such as Bureau de change). However, I believe I recall someone saying it was just a Google translation and that it will be called the Detective Agency. Quote
legojeroen Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Bureau is a dutch word, with more then one meaning. In this case it means agency. It can also mean 'desk' or 'station' (as in policestation) Quote
Dharkan Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Either way, I don't think Lego will use the bureau concept in a more serious, policey way if you know what I mean. That is why I'm so excited about it. Quote
jfbat Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Brickshop is a Dutch site. Detective Agency would typicaly be translated to "Detective Bureau" in Dutch. Just as a Police Station would be translated to "Politiebureau". It is a very common Dutch word in this context. So: nothing Federal about it, really. Keep in mind though that in this phase - with pictures not being available yet - there is a tendency over here (in the Netherlands) to translate setnames literally. That led to the erronous translation of this year's Creator "Bikeshop & Cafe" into "Motorzaak & Café" (Motorbikeshop & Cafe). Brickshop was the first to have it up on their webshop with that wrong name, but have since changed it to "Fietswinkel & Café". However, there are stil some shops around that use the wrong name, such as the largest Dutch chain of toyshops Intertoys: http://www.intertoys.nl/speelgoed/lego-31026-lego-creator-motorzaak-en-caf-601685.html So, maybe it is a Detective Bureau in English as well. Wouldn't put my money on it, though... Edited September 19, 2014 by jfbat Quote
