October 30, 201410 yr I disagree because basically one member scolded another for what they hoped for. There is no need for that because LEGO is not going to change their plans based on the view for one member or another. I much rather everyone can share their point of view without feeling the need to make others have to change theirs.
October 30, 201410 yr Would it be safe to say that a set would be available for at least 2 years? If PR came out this year, I would expect to be able to find one next year without any trouble... Yes, totally safe.....provided you have TLGs actual sales and marketing strategy and plans and reliable sales data that would support a two year life span.
October 30, 201410 yr Agree, PR seems to be the highest selling modular ever, lots of folks love the details and the build so I would expect it to be around for at least 3 years, but that is my opinion...the next one could be the one to get and then everyone loses interest in the PR so it goes away, but based on average, the modular sets are out for at least a 3 year span.

I think the overall pattern is the modular sales have been steadily increasing year to year as they build a fan base. I think the all time best seller was FB, but other than that obvious outlier each has steadily increased the sales and performance curve.
October 30, 201410 yr Agree, PR seems to be the highest selling modular ever, From the poll I posted previously, that was rather PC which sold the most. Though that the poll was only on a limited audience (the Lego thread of a non-Lego French forum) http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=84574&st=1325#entry2025578 Edited October 30, 201410 yr by antp

October 30, 201410 yr Did FB sell the best because of its length of availability or because of the desire of the set itself? Wasn't it available a lot longer than any other modular to date. With that said, I can easily believe that the modulars keep selling well and continue to uptick, with all of the newcomers and older fans that want to keep the collection growing. Again, with that said, one would assume a 2 year lifespan would be planned from the start. As in, maybe they produce enough to cover a certain stretch of time, evaluate the sales and see if they want/need to do other production runs. Obviously some sets get backordered and more need to be produced, but it might be possible (although probably not practical) to think that a brand new 2014 modular would retire within that year timeframe if it was popular enough. One would simply think they'd produce more within the first 2 year window (or whatever time projection they had planned). I have no business knowledge, but I am just assuming things here.
October 31, 201410 yr November 22nd. First view of Detective Agency?? http://www.eurobrick...6 I think it was a month ago or so a store manager told me that it will indeed be the DA that will be shown on this event.
October 31, 201410 yr November 22nd. First view of Detective Agency?? http://www.eurobrick...6 I believe there's a new set reveal on Facebook around that time. Makes sense.
October 31, 201410 yr Another stat to look at is the brickset community stats: 10182: Cafe Corner 3851 own this set, 5734 want it 10185: Green Grocer 5083 own this set, 5284 want it 10197: Fire Brigade 9020 own this set, 3522 want it 10211: Grand Emporium 9892 own this set, 3586 want it 10218: Pet Shop 8519 own this set, 3503 want it 10224: Town Hall 6689 own this set, 3643 want it 10232: Palace Cinema 5905 own this set, 3442 want it 10243: Parisian Restaurant 3851 own this set, 4128 want it Of course other factors play a part including duration of availability and how recent a set was released.

FB was available the longest because it went back to have more produced the most. And it kept going back for more because it sold well. It was the gateway drug for Modulars. The bridge point between City and AFOL. It bridged Lego market targets. The only other set quite like it is the Death Star.
October 31, 201410 yr None of the modulars show up in the big batch of "Retiring Soon" sets TLG just updated. Do they usually do that with modulars or are they treated differently? http://shop.lego.com/en-US/catalog/productListing.jsp?_requestid=1104663
October 31, 201410 yr Popped into the metrocentre lego store yesterday and they still had every modular set on the shelf. Don't know how long it'll stay like that. I wonder if they would get recalled at some point to fulfil online orders
October 31, 201410 yr Another stat to look at is the brickset community stats: Can't really take them at their word though, look up any 2015 set, surprising how many people already own it!

October 31, 201410 yr Would it be safe to say that a set would be available for at least 2 years? If PR came out this year, I would expect to be able to find one next year without any trouble... Safe? Normally. Guaranteed? Nope. Rumors are swirling about that a couple of the 2014 SW sets will be retiring this year... But other sets have disappeared in 12 months, just not a modular.
October 31, 201410 yr Man, I hesitate to even link this as it's surely got to be the scammiest scam site to ever scam, right...? But their modular prices make me weep with optimism: link removed Edited October 31, 201410 yr by Rick Link removed
October 31, 201410 yr Afraid your optimism is very far fetched, Don't want to be buying anything from there.

The bridge point between City and AFOL. It bridged Lego market targets. The only other set quite like it is the Death Star. And people keep complaining about fire sets in the City line. I actually passed on FB even though it was the oldest modular available when I came out of my dark ages because of the fact it was a fire set. I remember seeing Green Grocer in a Lego store when I was in my dark ages and thinking it was pretty cool, but it wasn't quite enough to get me out of it. I'm a bit sad about that, but there's nothing to be done about it now.
November 1, 201410 yr I started up last thanksgiving - but didn't get a modular until a few weeks ago. Kept telling myself the same thing as you. Pooh pooh! If I need fire service themed stuff...those sets come out ALL the time (making any of them very "uncool" in my opinion). BUT after building the GE, realizing that I SHOULD jump on a TH it dawned on me. Fire is neat. That building is cool. MORE buildings is better. Makes the whole thing cooler. I am chasing one down. So I did. Going to start on step 7 Of couse now I can really complain about city fie sets - right? :) See, clearly I wasn't their target audience anyway.
November 1, 201410 yr I'm sorry I missed the Fire Brigade. By the looks of prices on the secondary market LEGO clearly could have kept making them.
November 1, 201410 yr FB was my first and it doesn't disappoint. But, I have zero interest in fire themed sets otherwise. I just liked it for what it was. A large, detailed building. It just happened to represent a firestation.
November 1, 201410 yr FB was my first as well. I happen to have an interest in firefighting though, that being said it's such a well thought out design that it's probably still my favorite.
November 1, 201410 yr When do you think the pet shop will retire, because it is currently out of stock?
