This is kind of the shape I am expecting to see now. It allows for a "square" but doesn't prevent it from fitting in.

It even matches up to what I always considered a ridiculous rumour - the "inverted corner"

I do wonder if you can actually fit all that, at the correct scale, onto 2 32x32 baseplates though. I feel like each of the buildings you have suggested would be a 16x32 baseplate or larger.

Meh.

Stuff like that might look good as a single display piece, but would totally break the classic modular tradition. Squeezing in more than 2 buildings on a 32x32 (or more than four on 2 of them) would move the modular line further into the direction of the smaller Creator houses or even open backed city stuff, which we don't need (at least I don't). The barber shop half of DO (with the small brown 'Building') and the laundromat portion of the Brick Bank are cringeworthy enough. Please no more of that.

If 10255 really has this high piece count we keep hearing about, I hope for ONE magnificient building on a 32x32 baseplate, with its spatial dimensions similar to or exceeding those of Green Grocer.

After hearing the description from the LEGO employee posted earlier in this topic, I also envisioned something like @paupadros posted: a semi-enclosed square/open space, surrounded by buildings. The only way to make this compatible with the modular line so far and keep the price within the price of two modulars, is to move the inverted corner buildings all the way back into the corners of the baseplate. Another option would be @Adeel Zubair's sketch, but that doesn't really scream "square" to me. The big risk is indeed that the modulars become even less grand than the latest modular's we've seen, so I hope they at least include three 32 x 32 baseplates, but I doubt it...

I further expect the floors to be modular as well, so they can be rearranged and you can make different buildings by mixing and matching.

That would be awesome, but I wonder if it would limit the options in terms of building style. We would need the buildings to have very similar layouts (for stairs), and the style of construction couldn't vary much, or it would look mismatched.

The wait for November is going to be so long!

I put three builings on the back, but two would give that plaza look too! If they do that concept, I'm betting they'll share interiors between the buildings. I mean, maybe the three buildings on the back are all part of a big museum or something!

The funniest thing is that all the rumours there were COULD be thrown in "Assembly Square". Inverted corner, maybe hospital...

I fear that will be very likely.

Honestly I don't like the trend the last modulars are going.

I liked the exterior of the DO very much, but was a bit dissapointed when I had build it. The shared interiors on the first floor felt to me like cheating.

I haven't build the BB yet, but I have the impression the shared interiors will bother me less, but the result of the two combined buildings on one baseplate is that the bank looks so small compared to all other modulars! (And it has to be combined with the other modulars, because of the ugly backsides.) An extra midfloor could be a solution, but because of the combined laundromat and bank that isn't easy to accomplish without much modding, while in my opinion that shouldn't even be required for the showpieces of Lego!

So I lately bought the Market Street, and since I read the building instructions I cannot forget one line that kinda resembles the newest knowledge from NeoGAF...

Look at the canal house on the right side, when you would have two in one set there will be endless possibilities in the way you arrange the different layers...

Add some different colors, more detailed modular layers which are all square and more interior, and you might got yourself the 2017 Lego Modular 'Assembly Square'

Whatever it is coming in January, I want something fresh and new, that hasn't been touched on in a long time. I'd love to see a new department store, like the old Gimbles in Philly.

I hope we don't get another Grand Emporium style building. Out of all the modulars, the building process for that was the most boring and tedious. I love it when there are surprises and little details that you only notice during the build, like the mouse hole and stain-glass window in the Petshop.

What everyone seems to forget is that anything but the "standard" arrangement of MS looks bad.

Looks a bit like a toy store to me - maybe it's a Lego store, but with miniature versions of the old wooden toys?

What looks like a toy store to you? Do you mean to sketches people have posted, or have you seen something elsewhere?

Credit to "ghostmind" over on NeoGAF. He is actually pretty credible with Lego news and such so if this is real, this new modular is gonna be truly insane.

Yep, that's real. Same piece count I heard a while back; tried to drop a hint about it, but I don't think anyone caught it.

A hint about the number of baseplates? ^^

I'll restrain my excitement about the piece count, especially if Assembly Square does include a large square or other public assembly area which features an abundance of tiles and which could therefore go a long way to inflating the piece count.

Further, even though the Brick Bank and Green Grocer have almost the same piece count, I vastly prefer the Green Grocer, so really depends upon how and where all those extra 1,500 or so pieces are used.

This is gonna cost around 400€ isnt it? :(

truly disappointed , modulars should always be around The same price tag, not rich unfortunally :(

Yeah I agree, but at least that goves us a chance to catch up on the old modulars.

Well, LEGO indeed became "for the rich" in last few years. Many years before that, 150 euro was considered "normal" d2c price and 200 was already high price, with just occasional set (every few years) having higher price than 300 euro (Death Star etc). Now, 200 euro is nothing and a kind of "normal" price is 350euro (there were several sets at this pricepoint just this and last year.

But enough about the price: I can also confirm that something will happen today. :). We were given the go-ahead but nothing about the set itself.
