jonwil Posted October 29, 2024 Posted October 29, 2024 The good thing about the new botanic garden is that other than the sticker sheet, all the new stuff should appear on LEGO online PaB sometime early next year so for those who, say, already have the Friends garden (or multiples of that) you will be able to get and add some of the new stuff from this one if you want. May wait a bit and see if price goes down or double VIP, but I've already ordered all necessary parts (road plate with curve and parts for sidewalk) to integrate it in my city. Most of these reviewers only got into LEGO during the Covid pandemic and know little about the history. Heck, most of them haven't even been alive for much longer than the millenium if even that long. LEGO should be sending me free sets considering how long I've been buying. But I'm not about to post on facebook, you tube, tik tok or whatever is the social media platform of the day. Social Media Influencer is not a real job in my opinion. Quote

It's definitely not a real job, but it can be very lucrative for those who make it to the top of the pile. I do admire some of the LAN members. Racing Brick is great. He's on this forum and very active. Has been doing it for a long time. I like the reviews and the break downs. Where it's Technic or cars, it's clearly his thing. The move to reviewing the more popular sets that LAN provides doesn't always hit the mark, but his recent review of the 1966 Batmobile was great, as he pointed out a load of stuff that I hadn't seen from others - mostly negative. I do wonder whether a lot of the skepticism for LAN content is because they are all generally so positive. But these people are generally LEGO fans, so like building block models. The sets are generally very well designed, otherwise LEGO wouldn't be such a huge company. And the complaints you generally get are about colour consistency, stickers, and price. They do sometimes call that out, but it can get a bit old, because LEGO clearly isn't going to change. And on the price, even the non-sponsored reviewers generate enough money from views to not worry about it a huge amount. You probably want people who have a strict, limited budget to provide an opinion on that and whether it was worth it compared to something else you might get. But that's not really possible. And if it were, it would be hugely subjective. I wish more of them would speak about the building experience, what they liked about it, how it might fit with other things, potential mods that lead to a decent comment discussion. I've never really understood the reviewers that only look at it as a final model and don't even build it themselves. They're missing out on so much of the total value. I do like JANG for this reason. He goes through so many aspects. The build, the parts use, the history, the way it might fit with other things, the different considerations of value. Quote

Roebuck Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Sometimes you must read between the lines in the reviews to get that they are not very impressed with the set. I think Tiago Catarino has nice reviews and he point out a lot of cons with the sets even if he probably know a lot of the designers personally.. Quote
Stereo Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 I liked the Friends botanical gardens, but actually look at them side by side and this new one has so much more architectural detail. Like I think it's pretty noticeable what the extra money gets, and 2x or 3x set MOCs can't reproduce that cause they don't have all the greebling parts, they just get larger. It's a little odd that they did them in identical colour scheme though. Quote
RichardGoring Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Placed my order for the Botanical Gardens and got the Bookshop modular DLC (40698 Books Are My Passion), which will hopefully be decent to mod and mean that the Bookshop modular actually features a decent number of books! Quote

About it but we think Natural History Museum being released on December 1st might be sold poorly. For me, I prefer waiting until I order it to get modular GWP. I know some of others here prefer waiting for discounts. Personally, I don’t like the idea of having family member or freind get a big modular building for me for Christmas. Quote

I only wish it released December 1st so I can see the pictures already, I'd probably get it late January, I still have the Notre Dame,Milano and Milky Way Art to get I also started getting into Hot Toys so that makes it a bit more harder to keep up with these new sets Quote

I've never got the impression that Lego particularly wants people to buy them day one (any more than they want to sell any set day one). They don't usually have specific related GWPs like you got with things like the Eiffel Tower, Endurance, etc., nor the licensed tentpoles. They're sort of more big prestige pieces that will sell steadily throughout their life cycle. (I say this having bought one modular ever, so I'm no authority!!) Quote
