ReplicaOfLife Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I wouldn't get my hopes up on the museum passing review. While it looks like a very promising set - and I'd definately get one - there is a strong point against it: It is about the same size as Town Hall, and Town Hall got retired earlier than expected, with low sales being the leading rumor as the reason. It shares some of the points that made a lot of people not like Town Hall aswell - it is significantly bigger and looks a bit out of place on modular street. And we are seeing a trend towards smaller modulars while keeping the 150€ price tag. Thus, if we ever were to see a modular with a higher piece count, as Town Hall was and as the museum would be, it would propably be smaller then Town Hall, maybe even smaller than Green Grocer. Quote
AFOLguy1970 Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 I think the museum is really good and would actually fit quite well with other modulars. Yes, its weakness in the review is its size. Unfortunately the piano Ideas set just slipped in and made it into the same review as the Museum. A lot of sets in this review are large, and with the piano being small, I fear TLG will take the easy way out and choose it over any of the large piece count sets. I had been hoping that the review would consist of large sets to "force the issue" and finally have a large set made for Lego Ideas. If anything, that piano is going to be a threat. Dont get me wrong, I like the piano. I would just rather see the Museum or Minas Tirith get made instead. Quote
lightningtiger Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Judging by the interior detailing included in the PR and DO then a museum modular would be both huge and pricey.......gee, they might as well do Night At The Museum in LEGO Ideas.....oh, wait, that would only be minifigs. I guess what's next is anyone's guess......maybe somewhere where someone lives up stairs ? Quote
Colossus Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Sure, the museum would be in the same range as the Town Hall in regards to size, piece count, price, but the museum has so much more to offer compared to Town Hall. Architecture, vignettes, story...and we all know how modulars have to tell a story now. Night at the Museum, anyone? Quote
BirdOPrey5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Who are they kidding? LEGO now lists the Town Hall which has been "Sold Out" for months as ON SALE! Of course it's still out of stock and will never be back in stock. Same thing for Grand Emporium and a couple other expensive but sold-out sets. Great way to save money- only do sales on sold-out items. If there is a LEGO store somewhere in the USA with an extra TH of GE an employee should buy it and throw it on eBay, they'll double their money or more in a couple days. Quote

Thanks for pointing this out. I was also going to comment on it, but you've done a great job of documenting it. Due to a bad cold and a restless dog, I've been up since 4am. The Lego.com website has been a train wreck. Quote
BirdOPrey5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) After 9AM in New York, still no love from the LEGO website. Edited January 1, 2015 by BirdOPrey5 Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) I pretty much have given up. My wife is heading over to the mall and is going to take my Lego shopping list with her. The lego store opens in less than half an hour. Now, they all show out of stock will ship in 30 days. I ordered over $400 worth of stuff anyway. My order number starts with an 'x'. I have a bad feeling about this......... The DO, birds and Lincoln memorial all show out of stock will ship in 30 days. It let me place an order for all of them. But, we'll see what happens...... Just got the email order confirmation. Interestingly, in the email, there's a link to special instructions concerning the mirror element in the DO. Edited January 1, 2015 by Off the wall Quote
BirdOPrey5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I placed 2 orders 10 minutes ago- did not get any email confirmation yet. Please let us know if the LEGO Store has it in stock. Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) Will do. Called her on her cell phone. She walked by the Lego store. She has her priorities. My Lego list is LAST on her list. Edited January 1, 2015 by Off the wall Quote
Ryzomc Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Refresh refresh refresh That's all I've done all day waiting for Lego to update the website... Why would you tell the world something will be released on a day and not do it... Aaaahhhhhhhhhh Does anyone know when they are likely to finally sell the detective office on the lego website???? Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I ordered two sets earlier....see above. Quote
BirdOPrey5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Called local LEGO store- they claim it is in stock. We'll see soon enough! Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 My guess would be that Lego.com wasn't administered correctly (I may be using the wrong term). All of these new sets should give Lego sales a nice Christmas bounce. I wouldn't want to be the one who has to answer for this mornings website performance. Quote
Ryzomc Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 But the detective office was on sale in the US at some point but quickly went out of stock (no surprise there) just hope they haven't brought all the European copies as I really want the flower cart exclusive to go with my balloon and hotdog stands. But yeah someone at Lego is gonna get a slap..... Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I never saw it as 'in stock' on the U.S. website even though I was at my OCD best. To me it went from available Jan 1.......to available soon.....to out of stock will ship in 30 days. Quote

Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) My wife just called. She got one at the store and they were already restocking the display shelf. Edited January 1, 2015 by Off the wall Quote
Ryzomc Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Sorry I just assumed it had as some people are saying they have ordered 2 already and that it now has a lead time before next dispatch Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 No, I was able to place two in the 'cart' even though it said out of stock will ship in thirty days. The website never said it was available now. I did get an order confirmation. Quote
Ryzomc Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 That's weird!! What did the email about the mirror say Lego really has dropped the ball this time!!!!! I will keep refreshing till it's avalable Quote
Off the wall Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 (edited) It has to do with the protective covering on the part, how to remove it and why it was necessary to put a protective covering on the mirror element (so other pieces wouldn't scratch it while it's in transit). Edited January 1, 2015 by Off the wall Quote
BirdOPrey5 Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 Weird, I never got confirmation from the DO online order... if it does come through then I'll have two- if it doesn't- no big deal. Quote
talos Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 They seemed to have enough stock to go around at my store here in Calif. The store was packed as soon as it opened...was a long wait in line. I got just one DO, didn't see anyone buying 2x of anything, I think about every 3-4 person in line was buying either The SW Slave set or the DO set. I think they put ship in 30 days on everything as a tactic to keep the S@H site from crashing...it slowed down the orders, maybe...haha. Now everything is available like normal...I am glad I drove down and got mine in person though, don't have to wait for it to get here, which takes a week minimum. Quote
Ryzomc Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 The lego shop has been updated and the detective office is now available woo hoooo Quote
