Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hope this delay means that TLG will deliver a better modular than last year one.

I live in smallville USA. We have a 'modular" main street and another "modular" avenue. The buildings still missing are

A. Florest /arts craft

B. Barbers shop/beauty salon

C. Hardware store

D. Bank. (Why have they not made a bank yet)

E. Library

F. Post Office

G.Bus Station

Nearly all the modulars have a mailbox or bus bench, but there is no source of mail or buses.

We will get new modular next spring. Most likely not only Pet Shop but also Palace cinema will be discontinued then. There is unoficial rule that no more than 3 modulars can be on sale at same time. We are having four just because Pet Shop was slow seller and there is still stock.

A year ago 5 (!) different modulars were available (GE, PS, TH, PC, PR), so I doubt there has been an established rule like that in the past. Maybe this will change in the future, who knows.

I am guessing, and have no proof, but I am going to say sales are a bit slow on a January 1 release date since it was so close to the Christmas holiday and the presents given then...of course, a lot of adults may hold some money back for the release, but no proof. I know the DO was talked up a lot here and then we saw it and it seemed about 50% decided to wait on it due to disappointment and the other 50% went out and got it right away.

I am with the majority in that I want a great exterior, interior and enough space to fit my adult hand in it when building the interior. I have preferences like everyone and we have discussed. I would like to see a 2 release per year in this realm, maybe go the half building for one and do a series of row houses. Can be done, just a matter if TLG will do it.

I couldn't really think of where to ask this, but I'm wanting to put the finishing touches on my custom modulars - does anyone make a window piece to fit the rounded window frame that's used in a few of them? It seems like a custom piece that would be in high demand but searching hasn't turned up anything. Thanks.

Someone posted a link to a site selling a custom window piece in this thread, sometime in the last couple weeks. It was from somewhere in Europe but they shipped world wide.

Thanks both of you. Found the link and ordered some, I'll report back on the piece quality and ordering experience. I'm a little dubious that they claim it's made of ABS.

It could be that. But I think the Modular release dates normally follow from when the factories free up from the Christmas rush for normal big box retail product. The Creative Expert stuff is not viewed quite as holiday specific. So it gets made in the holes between the major surges. The surge may be a little larger this year with Star Wars releasing on top of the holiday season. So the CE stuff like Modulars may be pushed back a bit.

Do you think some kind of asian-inspired tea house or something like that would fit to the other modular buildings? There's a lot of re-usable asian-inspired stuff in the Ninjago series.

No, i do not expect that...there was already the Palace Cinema which was Asian-inspired....

I did in fact set some money aside for Parisian Restaurant before it came out. I based that decision on the photos and release information. With Lego sets, I can mostly tell from photos and descriptions whether or not I would like to own the set. I did not do the same for DO as I am not really impressed with it--again the decision was based on information released ahead of the set. If they do plan on releasing a modular on January 1, it would be beneficial to release photos, a description, or something before the holiday season begins. If I do not know what is coming, I will not set money aside for it. With Christmas one week prior to that, a lot of people will not have room in their budget for something like a modular unless they either save or get enough gift cards to buy it.

I agree with you completely, AFOLguy, I have not usually purchased on the release date due to that, after spending on Christmas, I am usually tapped out so I hold off til double points to get it. I have also found it is far cheaper to order it from lego.com than pick it up in the store...the tax is 50% less and shipping is free. I actually just picked up the PR this year during double points.

Seems like a lot of rumors (or info from a forthcoming catalog) are leaking today. I saw that there is supposedly going to be a 350 dollar modular Ghostbusters fire house but that there would also be a regular modular release as well.

Hopefully, we find out what it is soon.

For $350 it better blow away the Town Hall which was $200,,, I can't imagine what could justify that price besides everything we'd think AND light/power functions.

I didn't see J2G's post about it. I saw it reported on Facebook this morning and that one said that it was a modular building but that it wouldn't be taking the place of the annual Modular.
