just_one Posted July 15, 2017 Posted July 15, 2017 I really hope lego goes back to the normal 32x32 size with the next one. Assembly Square was the 10th anniversary so being a little bigger makes it special. It wont be a train station for sure , it will be something that adds to the whole street. A hospital or a police station would be good aditions. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted July 16, 2017 Posted July 16, 2017 Could be a 50/50 chance of the next modular being 32X32. Quote

I also think this would have great potential for a suitable train tie in given we are due a couple of new train sets next year. Given the 1930s setting of the modular building line- the ideal would be an Orient Express type steam train with pullman cars or an early Art Deco style diesel electric passenger train. I'll take either one of those, but that latter one would be so awesome. But plausibly speaking, I'm not sure really if we would ever even get a train station modular, but if we did, it would indeed have a corresponding Expert series train released alongside it. Quote
Ghostcat Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 I feel as though the Xmas set will be a train station so that kinda rules the modular being one too! I would love a old school hospital! Quote
paupadros Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Just curious, how would a train station fit with the other modulars. The track going through its back? For me the interior is the cherry topping, but not the main source of interest for the model. I think they should do exterior detail like they've never done before. If you take a look at previous modulars, none has that "photo-realism", they're all Lego versions of cool buildings. I bet they could do something crazy for once. Assembly Square was big but not crazy. For crazy I mean something like one of my modulars; eg Sweets & Co. I bet this would be really popular among AFOLs, don't you think! Quote
Vilhelm22 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 What about a shopping mall? Or is that too big? Or maybe something like a zoo or aquarium? Maybe real companies like McDonald's or Costa or something like that. Quote

Maybe real companies like McDonald's or Costa or something like that. There is already Grand Emporium set..so shopping mall unlikely.. For the rest, I think that this is not the way Lego wants to go with modulars.. there is nothing special about McDonalds or Starbucks or Costa... I think that 2018 modular will be either Hospital (48x32 studs) or small Clinic (32x32) or some goverment building or Police station. Alsou it could be museum/Library/School... Would be interesting to get 1x32x32 and 1x32x16 houses (like Pet shop) or 2x 32x16..but we will see in while..I guess that end of august/begining of september will be time for first info... Quote
paupadros Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 To be honest, something like a governmental building would be the worst. I love the modulars which are relatable; Parisian Restaurant, Detective's Office. Whatever they do it will be absolutely amazing. But please, no hospital nor school! Quote
koalayummies Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Detectives offices aren't really relatable to the average person its more of a fun albeit antiquated concept. While nearly everyone has seen and or been in (i.e. relatable) a town/city hall, hospital, school, police station, public library... i.e. government/municipal/public service buildings. Respect your opinion but we should really be open to any new official modular, not just what one wants. Quote
jonwil Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 If its as good as the Detective's Office, Brick Bank and Assembly Square, I am interested no matter what the subject matter. Quote
jonwil Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 The last 3 modulars have all been great sources of interesting parts IMO. Quote

With all of the ice cream parts out there, it certainly could be possible. Then again, hot dogs seem to be the staple food in the world of Lego. Perhaps some type of hot dog establishment sharing space with the ice cream parlour could work. Quote
Doge Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 On a completely other topic: Sometime ago I got the Lego Architecture Guide. Its a quite visual presentation of the first years of the Architecture branch, which presents every building with all kinds of details and other info. Maybe an interesting idea regarding the Modular line? 11 Sets and 10 years so far of buildings, sounds quite abit like a potential book with background info and designer notes! Bellow a presenation sheet of the Architecture book and a visual impression of the book. I'm curious if my vision is shared! ;) Quote
Lego Conductor Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 After owning Assembly Square and having it on display for awhile with the other modulars feeling a bit meh on it. I think a School would be great, Lunchroom, Library and Classrooms offer a range of styles under one roof and a playground out back could offer some interesting part usage and new techniques. Still holding out for a Police Station as well. Quote
danimarroquin Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I think the train station modular sets would a great set , would be a kind of long in order to fit the hole train . Don't know if would be good a American or European style ? It will also have to be release with a creator train set similar to the emerald night . Another good idea would be a modular airport on the 50s era before the jet and probably released with a silver metal DC3 or constellation passenger plane Quote

Both make absolutely NO sense within the modular series. Train stations in general sit by themselves, and would require a much larger footprint than the standard modular. Then there is the issue of platforms, tracks etc. And having an airport in a downtown street is just plain ridiculous. This does not mean that a large D2C set of either wouldn't be agood idea, but not as part of the modular building line. It just doesn't make sense. Quote
Tokru Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 I think it shouldn't be an official, or better single purpose, building. Therefore no school, library, hospital etc. There are already enough of those. More residential buildings with small shops on the ground floor are needed for a realistic street. Quote

I didnt noticed any Lego Hospital, School or Library in years... Maybe you can gie me clue where I can find those :) (except friends, and even then there is still no library...). From outside, the modular street looks very realistic, nobody knows what is inside :) Quote

Official, or single purpose buildings are: the town hall, the fire brigade, the emporium, the bank, the cinema. Those are needed in a real town, but never make up a big portion of all buildings. Residential, multi purpose buildings are always in the majority. Therefore I think it's more plausible to release more of those. Quote

I see, but following your logic, what is intersting about regular apartment buildings? What kinda "shop" you need? We have grocery, bakery, barber shop, flower shop, music shop, mall, restaurant, 2x cafe, pool bar, pet shop...but what we reaally missing is Hospital or proper police (but ok, we have detective office...), or museum, or library..city need to live, and boring apartments (alone) brings nothing... How about a bookshop then? An antiques dealer? A general practitioner's practice? It doesn't has to be shops though. How about small craft producers? Maybe a small car workshop? There are many possibilities for businesses that fit into the ground floor of residential buildings. Quote

Bookshp could be in Library... but I think that something useful for all inhabitants would be great, like Hospital which is desperately missing.. Or more likely as you mentioned, GP clinic, and his small apartment above... Btw little out of topic but have you seen that vid from sdcc wher Ninjago city set was built? There is small Lloyds apartment on I believe 10x8 studs and its just perfect.. And you will never believe all those thinks that fits in there... :) Quote
