I just noticed that the Grand Emporium is listed as 'sold out' now on S@H. At least here in the USA.

Same here in Canada.

Just a wild idea of mine: if the next modular is going to fit the 'government' theme as it is rumoured: they could do Buckingham Palace? You would also have a museum then.

Though it wouldn't fit in with the other modulars and would be better placed in Architecture or an other subtheme of Creator.

Are they going to release it in 3 years? :D That is a huge building and not really fitting the line.

What do you guys think the possibility of smaller, cheaper modulars is (ie: 16x32 buildings at only $75)?

Fine, as long as they maintain the look of a modular. The great detail, texture, etc. Not flat and bright like the Bike Shop/Cafe. Flat and bright is fine, but not it the modular series.

What you are asking for is already available as Creator Bike Shop and doesn't really look good.

Totally agree as far as it fitting into the modular theme. However, if they do a 16 x 32 that's in the spirit of modular design, I could live with it. Like 1/2 of the pet shop.

Not really, the bike shop isn't a true modular (at least, how I understand it to be, 16 x 32 with sidewalk)

huh, it seems i am one of the last ones getting GE from US S@H, ordered on 23 June, still waiting for it, cost me about 60$ for shipping from US to my country...

I bought MISP copies of GE and TH on bricklink the other day. 150 euro each + a total 35 euro in shipping. It's almost 100 euro less than if I would have bought them at retail price here in Sweden. Thank god for Bricklink and the European free trade union. :)

I know what you all meant. But you didn't get what I meant.

The reason Lego was released that set as it is was providing people in your mindset a cheap modular-like set. I hope it is clear now.

I was thinking of buildings more like 1/2 of the Pet Shop like random apartment buildings and small mom-and-pop shops to populate the city.

I think this would be great and really it fits in with a big city type block that I feel they are doing. Sort of the brownstone house feel they have in NYC and other places. Could easily do an art gallery on the bottom and living upstairs. The US used to have lots of this kind of thing prior to the big box stores coming in, actually one of the best things they could do, but I know they wouldn't and I know why and all that so no reason to rip on me for this like a lot of folks do to others, but almost every town like the one that Lego is building had that corner bar where folks would go after work. That would be cool, but alas, never done.

Half modular would not be $75 though based on what I am seeing, the trend is more little pieces with a bigger price tag like PR. I would guess half modular for $85 - $90.

Dharkan - when you say providing people in your mindset a cheap modular like set, what do you mean? It is not clear, sounds like you just called him cheap to me, this is not what we want posted on the site. Please refrain from the insults and stick to the topic. If you knew what he meant then just leave it at that. Thanks

I don't think that's what he meant at all (not all people on this site are native English speakers). If you think a thread requires moderation, please use the Report button. Thanks.

Insult? I didn't mean to offend anyone. Sentence was a little bit odd I believe I'm not natively speaking english.

I mean that set is for people who wants something similar to a small modular. They will never release a proper small modular like one of the Pet Shop buildings, what is the best they can do instead of it. Sorry again but I didn't mean to offend anyone there.

I don't know anyone who collects modulars (but I'm sure someone will prove me wrong) who wouldn't welcome some 16 wide modulars. And, the Bike Shop obviously isn't an attempt by TLG to add to the modular product line. It's not as detailed as a modular and just doesn't look like a modular. Looks like it fits in more with City. And, I don't want a cheap modular, but a few less expensive ones would be a nice addition. I'm also fairly certain that half a modular (16 wide) would cost more than half the price of a full 32 wide modular. If we are only going to get one 32 wide modular a year, a 16 wide in between regular modulars would be nice. Of course, we always have the MOC route to get a smaller modular.

The 31026 Bike Shop & Café is certainly a lot more detailed than your average City building. City buildings have all kind of play activities like windows falling out etc but 31026 has architectural details. In this respect, it is more closely related to the modulars than to City, I think.

But of course the 31026's scale is all wrong from a modular perspective. It's too small in every way. However, it is relatively easy to mod the 31026 into a modular that, the architectural details of the original preserved, fits quite nicely in with the official modulars. Here's my example:

City buildings can of course be modularized, as well, but whereas you get the scale right, the architecture just doesn't fit in unless you mod it seriously. The buildings are just too plain. The Friends shops have nice details, but are always only one floor high.

I would also be delighted if TLG released 16x32 modulars. Maybe one 32x32 and one 16x32 a year? That would be perfect. But I'm also satisfied with more sets like the 31026 – it gives every one of us a nice little summer project, modding it to fit the modulars.

Not being a collector of City stuff, I'm probably wrong. The only MOCs that I've really thought fit in are the ones on Lego ideas. Like the Barnes-Noble/Starbucks, the candy shop and a few others from a guy in Canada (a hospital and an apartment building) that can be seen on ebay. Now that I have thousands and thousands or pieces left over from my eight (or was it nine?) GE MOC, maybe I'll get into an MOC or two.
