That may be true, but I also think Moe's Tavern not becoming a set could just as easily be because The Simpsons was a very small, short-lived theme with few sets, so it was easy for the designers to come up with enough family-friendly locations for however many sets they saw demand for before ever needing to resort to more controversial options like Moe's Tavern.........

......... Using machines like this in place of casino games works especially well given that they had a similar sort of sinister reputation in the early 20th century, but are now nowhere near as controversial.

Shortened the quote, but entirely agree with everything you said.

Maybe it would be nice that TLG makes a some sort of an abandoned modular building like a haunted house that would fit with the existing modular building.

Or they could quit the modular building series with a different modular series, like suburban houses with a little garden in the front and spaces between the buildings.

I am just thinking about a new idea for the modular series, because I have some doubts about TLG releasing these modular buildings in a way they do it currently. I think they can't do it for decades, because it becomes harder to make new next level outstanding buildings as they have released more modular buildings over time.

I think they have plenty of years very left. They certainly have plenty of building options, many of which have been suggested here over the years. New building techniques are always coming so I don’t see a problem with them amazing us with the buildings. Just look at how they’ve advanced in the time we’ve had them.

I do like the idea of an abandoned building though. I doubt we’ll ever see that realized in this series however. Having a lineup of beautiful, pristine buildings....then a rundown one. Not sure what kind of general appeal that would have.

So, is the Lego Diner really retiring this year? My wife has got me the bookshop for Christmas (My first Modular) but now I'm also feeling FOMO for the diner. Which does everyone think is better

Yes - the Diner has been confirmed to retire this year. If you're keen on it I'd try and pick it up soon. Just back in stock on the LEGO website!

Ever since this trend of black 18+ boxes has started, I’ve been wondering if next year’s modular building will follow suit. Will Lego bump it up to 18+ and get rid of the typical blue boxes that all of the other Modular buildings have had? Or will they keep it at the usual 16+ range and keep the classic packaging? Most D2Cs have just become 18+, but Diagon Alley hasn’t and I’m not sure if there’s been any exceptions. I know this is an arbitrary thing, but what do all of you think?

I would imagine so. It seems DA is an oddity in the case of the boxes. Looking at last year’s Winter Village set, it went from 12+ with the usual box to 18+ black box.

Between the Downtown Diner and the bookshop?

From the outside they are both great sets, I think it comes down to personal preference (if you like diners in real life, you will like it for sure). Looking inside the buildings, I would say that the bookshop does not have much to offer, while the Diner is much more refined.

Personally for me the Diner has also a better overall design. I have not purchased the Bookshop and I do not think I will. I know some folks here like the two-building scheme for the modulars, but I admit I am not a fan of it.

BTW, for me (Italy) the only modulars left on Lego S@H are the Assembly Square (great set) and the Bookshop.

Yes it is... grab it soon if you want it.

Not really.  Bookshop photos first showed up first week of December 2019.

I dont even think we even knew it was going to be a bookshop until December.  Someone might have an idea, but it is hard to tell who really in the know and who is guessing until the reveal is nearly imminent.

Isn't it about time Lego announced the new modular building?

We might get some leaked photos, but official announcements would probably be in December...

From memory it only leaked just before it was officially announced last year - and even then it was a blurred image of the box. So probably at least another month. There's been no firm predictions this year what it'll be.

Instead of an abandoned building, how about a half & half modular like the pet shop except one of the buildings has a "For Rent" sign in the front window and some boxes stacked in the corner? No need for any additional furnishings except for perhaps a rat/mouse.

^I like the idea of having an empty half building you can fill yourself. But being that 60% of businesses in the USA won't be reopening after cover I doubt LEGO would do that now. It would be like releasing a $200 police station, just not going to happen in the current climate.

Lego designs sets quicker now than they used to some rumors and photos don't leak that much. The lego star wars cantina designers did an interview, maybe at Brothers Bricks, I don't remember and they said the whole set only took 6 months to design to on the market. So I expect we will hear rumors of what it is probably in the next month, like we knew the winter set was elves house, and pictures right around Christmas if it is still released January 1st.

That's more of "an idea for another modular down the line" rather than a guess at what's coming in January. I'd be shocked if I managed to pull a correct guess that accurate out of thin air!

Same was for corner garage. Release and leaks were pretty close in early December.

At least last year there were rumors about a bookshop around this time now...

The kind of statistic that makes the internet so great.

No way it'd be a library with the bookshop last time. If it's a school I could see it being more of a Nursey type thing, a big school seems unlikely to me cause of the size it'd be.

I'm going for it'll be a full length building(s) but with different styles  (like the Detectives Office). I think one of the buisnesses will be an opticians, record shop or a hardware store.

2021 is the 15th anniversary of the lego modular.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see another 1 1/2 baseplate or 2 even baseplate wide modular to celebrate this anniversary.

I’d love this. While we did just get two buildings, I enjoyed the DO build & the set is great. Having that but if a “gap” breaks up the otherwise repetitive single building facades we mostly get.

That is not correct. It is the 14th. Cafe Corner released in 2007 and Assembly Square was released in 2017 at the 10th anniversary. Since then LEGO has released 3 new modular buildings, not 4, as they would have when 2021 was the 15th anniversary.
