Lind Whisperer Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I see some more mini-modulars have been announced for October - I wonder if/when we'll see them here in the Uk? I think the article said that they're exclusive to the US. Quote
Herky Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) interesting that one of the mini modular is a pizza place, something that is not in our line of larger ones, these are normal TRU promotions, in the past they did minifig magnets, then last year was a minifig set, interesting they upped it this year to do the modular so I am expecting they are really mini, not like the other set based on the modular line, they will be no more than 2-3 inches high so the supposition that you could easily mod them to fit might be a bit off, but with creativity I think it could be done, just take more than most would think...it's a 6x8 plate after all, so maybe 150 pieces each? That is still a nicer little se than the minifig magnets that I have. Edited September 4, 2014 by Herky Quote
Blakstone Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Ocifant, those are not in the same scale as the minimodular previously released but they look cute. Quote
Off the wall Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 Other than the fact that they represent buildings, there's not enough of a clear relationship to the modular line of products to get even a completist like me to buy them. Pass. Quote
blarghiflargh Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I like the look of the minis but I suspect most of us can scrounge up almost all of the non-printed parts at a moment's notice. Would've preferred more minifig sets. Quote
HomerJSimpson Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) About Astrid For me is town hall worst modular building ever, there arent any chalenging building techniques building is plain outside and inside and piece count for nothing is also crazy. But Palace cinema is very nice building, but interior is worst part of this set.I hope that they thrown 500 pieces only for interior What about her building techniques? I may like Jamie better, mainly because I think the Parisian Restaurant is the best lego set ever released, but I like the elevator idea. Sure, maybe there could be some design with a winch or something, but I see nothing wrong with her models, and if lego didn't like her, they would have not hired her. Also, those mini modulars look great! But I can't tell what some of those cars are supposed to be. Edited September 5, 2014 by HomerJSimpson Quote
TheLegoDr Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I must be crazy because I think these look terrible. Good idea, bad execution. They look hurried and thrown together. I'm sure we could build most of them without any worry. Plus the scale to the official being off makes them less wanted. Granted I don't shop at TRU so these are an easy pass. Quote
sithewok Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I agree. I'm not impressed by these at all. Lucky, I suppose... Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Those mini's are cute, I agree......by the looks of them just tossed together, not really impressed by them to tell you the truth. Quote
ItsaBRICKS Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Not impressed by the Mini Modulars. Looks rushed and not up to the standards of the others. Any more info about the Detective Agency? Any colors? And it should be a regular building, not a corner, if it follows the pattern right? Quote
LegoSjaak Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Please let it be an inverted cornerbuilding... but i'm almost sure it won't.....an inverted cornerbuilding isn't really attractive on it's own..so new buyers woul'dn't be interested....maybe they could do an extra modular in 2015... being an inverted cornerbuilding...... Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Frankly, I don't understand all the begging for inverted corners. Not you specifically, but it gets brought up over and over. The building type is pretty uncommon outside of Europe not including dead ends or alleys. The idea just screams closed, tight and narrow to me, and LEGO is pretty typically open and inviting. I just can't see it ever happening from an official set, mostly because as you mention, by itself, it would be mostly blank walls and therefore unappealing as a standalone set. Quote

It is all true you see...i also not expect TLG to come with an inverted cornerbuilding.. but it would be nice to me, to redo my modular layout..especially when you see most modularlayouts as one row of buildings.. divided by two cornerbuildings on a shelf... Maybe they could do two 16x32 buildings as an end-building...??? never seen one actually.. Would be a tiny building, because of the pavement needed on two sides of the building... i guess that would leave room for a 8 x 24 stud building...... It can be done.. maybe a nice idea for MOCcing?? Nice example of a inverted or inside cornerbuilding... Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Except that doesn't fit right... There's no sidewalk, and on a 32x32 baseplate, you'd get almost nothing for facade, then big blank walls on the sides. Sure, you night be able to make the back more interesting, but as the back, it would typically be out of sight. Quote
Off the wall Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 That's a nice corner building. But, work would have to be done on both sides to add more detail and windows. Also, one of the main areas of opportunity with a corner building would be the open, corner area in front on the building. A fountain? A park type setting? A bus stop? A small news stand? I'm open to a corner building, with some 'tweaks'. Quote
Legoman123 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 So when can we expect to see the Detective Agency? Quote
Herky Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 well, it's just a rumor at this point, so no one knows if the next modular will be a detective agency, a few pages back it was a bank, we have thrown out many guesses, but no concrete proof of anything yet also remember these mini TRU October are FREE sets so they are likely not meant to be added to the previous mini set, just something to entice folks to spend more money at TRU...which is usually priced 20% more than other places and they don't even have the modular line in the store...only time I ever stop in is to check what polybags they have, which I haven't done in a long time since they are always the same. The Lego store has 2 Halloween sets out now, a bat and the other is a Dracula stand up, both kind of cool. Quote
Off the wall Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Yep, Herky, this detective agency rumor has really gained momentum. I even see where neoape.com refers to it. Well, for the sake of all of those wishing for a detective agency, I hope it works out for them. As for me, as long as there's a high piece count and a building of substance, I couldn't care less about the theme. Quote
Paperballpark Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 (edited) So when can we expect to see the Detective Agency? 1 Jan 2015. I didn't ask if there would be a VIP release earlier. Edited September 5, 2014 by Paperballpark Quote
CityBuilder Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I suppose those leaks awhile ago about the next modular being a detective office are looking to be more likely. I hope they are, because a 1930's style detective office would be really cool! Quote

parksroad Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I think a detective office would be a nice change of pace from the regular police stations that come out every few years. Indeed! I was thinking that since the Modulars had included a fire station the police station was inevitably next. The Fire Brigade was great but I was a bit less interested in the idea of a police station. This sounds like it could be a fantastic, fresh way to do that. If it's true. By the way, the October LEGO store calendar mentions a new exclusive set being unveiled. Any chance it could be the next modular, whatever it is? Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Most are guessing that will be the Star Wars / Slave I reveal. Modulars were typically a Spring release and PR was early coming Jan 1. Quote

CrazyDalton777 Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 If its a detective agency (depending on the looks) am I not the only person gonna mod into a police station.? Quote
