Off the wall Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 If its a detective agency (depending on the looks) am I not the only person gonna mod into a police station.? Agree completely. Quote
fred67 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 If its a detective agency (depending on the looks) am I not the only person gonna mod into a police station.? I might actually not even buy it. A detective agency would be a waste of precious layout space. I get why a lot of you like the idea, but I'm not going to spend $150 to $200 on something I don't want so that I can mod it into something I do want, only to have a police station come out later. I'm still hoping it's NOT a detective agency. Even a bank would be better, it's something most towns actually have. It'll have to be an absolutely AMAZING set for me to buy a detective agency, and as far away from $200 as modulars can go. Quote
Faefrost Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Frankly, I don't understand all the begging for inverted corners. Not you specifically, but it gets brought up over and over. The building type is pretty uncommon outside of Europe not including dead ends or alleys. The idea just screams closed, tight and narrow to me, and LEGO is pretty typically open and inviting. I just can't see it ever happening from an official set, mostly because as you mention, by itself, it would be mostly blank walls and therefore unappealing as a standalone set. More often than not those asking for it are displaying their Modulars via some sort of narrow shelf such as bookshelves rather than a more open plan table type display. The inside corner would allow the display to wrap around the walls. Quote
Robert8 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Detective Agency, huh? Interesting... That's quite a twist in the line. Since it will be released on Jan 1st, I hope there will be pictures soon Quote

GregD Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 The Pet Shop takes up only one third of two buildings in the set. I think Detective Agency will be similar and upstairs of a shop (my guess is fishmonger!). I think they've only called it Detective Agency to help advertise it, as it will be slightly hidden away... Quote
EvilBlackSheep Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Asian restaurant at ground level and detective agency on the first floor would be great. I'm really not super excited by the detective agency itself but who knows we could get a surprisingly interesting design. Quote
Big-whoop-Guybrush Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Not sure if people are familiar with the sam and max games but when I think of this mod that's the image I have in my head. Their office only occupies one room up stairs. The exterior fits in with the look of the pet shop also Quote
CrazyDalton777 Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 My idea of what it could look like is the garage with the detective's classic sports car on the ground floor and the detective office on the 1st floor. Thats my wish if it turns out to be a detective agaency. Quote
NicT Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I am imagining the detective's office on the ground floor with a jazz club above. Also, I can see an alleyway, where shady dealings take place... Quote
eurotrash Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Oooh! How about a Detective's office upstairs above a Barber shop. Quote
Off the wall Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Oooh! How about a Detective's office upstairs above a Barber shop. That actually sounds pretty good. If you look at a lot of buildings, they are occupied by many different businesses. So, having a private detective, a barber shop and whatever in the same building would make a lot of sense. As would a combination business/residential building. Quote
Paperballpark Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 By the way, the October LEGO store calendar mentions a new exclusive set being unveiled. Any chance it could be the next modular, whatever it is? As it's just being unveiled, rather than released, I would strongly imagine that it will be the Detective Agency that is unveiled. After all, Parisian Restaurant was released 1 Jan this year, and unveiled at the start of October last year. Quote

rollermonkey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) Just a thought here, but if AFOLs are a primary focus of modulars, then the detective agency concept is far more fitting than a police station. (Nuanced and mature rather than generic and whatnot) Besides, with the dozens of police sets released every year, do we really need yet another? Edited September 7, 2014 by rollermonkey Quote

It really depends on how much chest hair you want on your PI. Magnum PI Sam Spade As for the car... I think the Ferrari will get stolen off the street since we don't have a Police Station modular. I am thinking a hybrid of the Red Ferrari and the 40's/50's convertible. Quote

(Nuanced and mature rather than generic and whatnot) Besides, with the dozens of police sets released every year, do we really need yet another? Well, playing devils advocate, we need a police station that relates more to the AFOL modular theme and meets those standards. I haven't seen an existing lego police station that I would add to my modular city. Quote
rollermonkey Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Why exactly? Everybody griped about the FB since so many fire department sets are released in City already. ...and how many police station MOCs have you seen that you would add to your city? Quote
Off the wall Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I don't collect city. I will never collect city. So, what's available in city is irrelevant to me. MOCs? Can't think of one. But, that's why we look to the TLG design team for new, innovate products and designs. Quote
Herky Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I was looking at the October store calendar...maybe I am slow, where does it list that a new exclusive set will be revealed? http://www.bricksandbloks.com/october-2014-lego-store-calendar-sales-promos-events/ Quote
just2good Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I was looking at the October store calendar...maybe I am slow, where does it list that a new exclusive set will be revealed? http://www.bricksand...-promos-events/ Look at October 6th. Quote
Herky Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 the facebook one? I guess I didn't get that this was a new reveal, if it is, great, will be nice to have some closure on this...if it is the modular...I like the elves set and the confirmation of 2x points, which we sort of knew anyway, and then set 2 from the elves last year was black Friday We do have the Lego Halloween sets at our store right now, and folks were buying them like crazy, one is a nice cake topper with Dracula and a coffin and the other set is a bat...my queries on modular again went unanswered today since no one seemed to know. Will be fun to see what it is. Quote
